RWBY: High Noon
Chapter 1.
Just Another Day
"Hit the peddle boys! We're about to hit this joint." Came a shout over the sound of the roaring engines. Looking over to my right I saw four bikes being road by two men on each one. I myself was one of them, being the guy behind the driver who speed up to catch a moving train.
It was a bright afternoon on Wednesday as we drove over the grassy plains right next to the forest. The warm rays of the sun rained down on us as we drew closer to our target. The day was quite nice, shame that we're about to ruin it for some folks.
What we're about to do now is something our gang has become famous for. We're about to rob a train that was tasked to transport various valuable items. Gold, dust, money, all that good stuff that made this shitty world spin.
Our gang goes by the name of Tomblock. We're a notorious group of people that specialize in stealing from those who have plenty already. You may call us terrorists or thieves, or whatever you prefer. Not like any of us give a damn. All that matters at the end of the day is how much we earn in order to fill our pockets. We mainly operate here in Vacuo, since a lot of its supplies and people travel by trains around here. Making it easier to pull off a heist like this.
Though at times I wonder what's the point of it all if every place you go to has your face on a wanted poster on it. No doubt filled with the number of people wanting to claim that hefty bounty on your head.
Hmph... Not like such questions need answers. It was plainly obvious why we desire wealth. To have money is to have power and with power, you control the world around you. At least that's what the boss says.
"Mccree! Stop daydreaming and get on it already!" I was broken out of my thoughts by the driver shouting back at me. Coal Sundown. Tall, roguish, and broad man. Underneath the biker helmet, you'll find a middle-aged man with no hair, greenish-blue eyes, and a pointy chin. He wore a Tomblock leather jacket much like everyone else in our gang which had a logo on the back of a tombstone with a Grimm skull on it, crossed by two cutlasses. A pair of blue jeans and black boots.
Seeing that we were now close enough to the train. I grabbed hold of his broad shoulders with both my hands and pulled myself to stand on the backseat of the bike. I took a few seconds to find my balance before looking at one of the support beams right next to the train doors that lead to a cart that held the passengers within it.
"Get me a bit closer damn it!" I yelled at Coal. Wheater he heard me or not, the bike didn't inch any closer than it was. Letting out a sigh of frustration at the man's attitude. I braced myself before jumping towards the support beam. I managed to grab it with both my hands as the side of my body impacted against the cart.
Thankfully my aura absorbed most of it.
Tightening my hold upon the support beam. I swung my legs up on the platform where the door was and slowly made it upon it. Once there I managed to see other members of our party on or either jumping onto the other carts. Seeing them get on I proceeded with my part of the job and smashed the window closest to me. I doubt that they'll simply open the door for me.
Not long after I did so, I heard multiple voices screaming, shrieking, and crying out from inside. I quickly cleared of any glass that would cut me during my entry before proceeding to get in.
"Howdy folks!" I greeted while smirking underneath my helmet. All of the sounds died down as their attention was glued to me. The cart was filled with people all looking terrified, confused, and nervous.
"Now I know ya'all raddling in yer boots right about now. But I advise ya'all to stay in you're seats and don't move unless I tell ya so. Follow my every instruction and none of you will go home with lead stuck in your behinds." I told them in my thick southern accent. Leaving nothing but utter seriousness within my words. My hands came to rest at the belt buckle wrapped around my dark blue jeans with my right one being near the revolver which was holstered in the belt. My eyes scanned everyone over, daring them to try and do something.
"Much obliged folks..." I said after seeing them all stay in their seats before reaching for the black duffle bag on my back which was given to me for this job. Holding it in my right hand I opened it up before addressing the people once more.
"Alrighty now. Here's how this works. I'll approach each and every one of ya'all with this bag here. In which you'll place all of the valuable stuff you got on ya. Money, rings, watches, all and above. Don't try any funny business tho. My gang has this joint surrounded and ready to fill any of you with more holes than a pincushion." I saw the look of terror spread across most of the passenger's faces once more. Good... Fear makes my job easier as well as putting me on a time limit now. The Grimm will no doubt catch a sniff of this.
"Now then let's begin." With that, I started walking from one person to another. Collecting the money and any valuable item they had upon them. Nobody moved or made a sound as I walked. The spurs on my cowboy boots clicked with each step I took.
The bag was already filled plenty by the time I reach the last two people which were a pair of middle age man with short brown hair and a silver-haired woman. Most likely married.
Holding a bag out towards them and saying. "You're the last ones. Put your parts."
"Despicable!" The man said with a glare on his face. All but spitting the word at me. "Have you no shame with stealing from us like this."
Hmph... So he's one of those fisty ones ha. Met quite a few of them during my time in the gang. They all give this same old speech about how what we do is shameful and how we should feel regret for doing this.
"You damn baster-."
BANG!
I pulled out my revolver in a flash and fired off a shot into the window next to his wife. Which made her scream in fright while he turned his head to look at the spot in shock. Checking if I harmed her with that shot. I skillfully spun the gun in my right hand before aiming it back at them.
"Next one will not be a warning shot. Besides." I felt the train begin to slow down until it didn't eventually stop.
"Attention dear passengers. We ran into a problem during our travel. We will continue on our way shortly. Thank you for your understanding." The voice sounded through the speakers which was soon followed by shouting coming from the outside. It looks like the boys were hurrying it up.
My attention went back to the man as I held him and his wife at gunpoint. "I doubt that in a few minutes you'd be concerned about lil'ol me. Now place 'em in."
Though the man kept glaring at me. He and his wife did as told. Once done I closed off the beg and swung it over my back before turning around and stepping towards the middle of the cart. Looking at each one of the passengers around me before nodding my head.
"Well, folks. I appriciate your coopuration. You've been some fine company during this little hang-out we had in our short time. But now I'll be taking my leave."
BANG!
Screams once again broke as I shot another window. This one was in the middle on the right side of the cart. Not wasting any time I jumped out of it, just in time to see the rest of my gang hooking their begs onto the bikes. The drivers already starting them as I made my way to Coal.
"The fuck took you so long Mccree!?" Coal said in a frustrated voice. Probably fuming at me behind his helmet.
"Some old buck was giving me an attitude." I answered while hopping onto the bike behind him. Grabbing a hold of the handles on the side for steadiness. "Had to put some more fear in his bones."
"You damn stupid brat! If we get a whole horde of those motherfuckers on our asses. I'm tossing you at them!" I glared at the back of his helmet as he revved the bike to life.
"Then you better stop talking out of you're backside and start moving!" I told him which I was sure he heard since his shoulders shook in anger but he kept quiet and started to drive off after our party leader who was already speeding off.
The party leader is sorta like the right-hand man of our boss. Though he was a slightly younger man than Coal with short red hair, sideburns, a small start of beard on his chin, and a pair of blue eyes. He wasn't as big or bulky as Coal but fit enough to make some of the other guys back at the base look like some side grunts. He dressed exactly the same way as the rest of the group with the exception of having a skull on the right shoulder of his leather jacket. Indicating he was the leader of the party.
People call him Lee. No last name to his boot tho. Don't know why's that is, rumors have it something happened to him that made him drop it one day. But it's not like I care enough to figure it out. The guy is nothing but trouble anyway.
We soon caught up with him. Leaving the raided train behind as we rode off. He looked around at all of us, counting over in case someone's missing. His focus went back to the road.
"You all got your shares!?" A man that rode with Lee said to us all and we all proceeded to shout our confirms.
I allowed myself to release the breath I didn't realize I was holding and relaxed. The heist went better than I thought it would with no interruptions from the cops or Grimm. Seems to be our lucky day.
"HEADS UP!" That thought quickly hit the sack as I shouted loudly just as I saw a Beowolf Alpha jump from the forest and towards our position. It roared loudly as we scattered around it avoiding the swipe it throw at us.
"All of you scatter! It can't go after us all!" I heard Lee shout before all of us scattered across the clearing. The Grimm of course wasn't about to let its potential pray go, so he went after the closes two to it. Which just so happened to be myself and Coal. The big man took a sharp right and avoided the claws that were about to crush us and increased his grip on the gas, increasing our speed though the monster gave chase quickly.
"Damn it Mccree!" I heard Coal shout back at me while he turned left this time to avoid another claw strike. "Shoot the darn thing!"
Not needing to be told twice I pulled out my revolver and pointed it behind us, right at the Grimm's face. Taking aim I fired two shots at the monster one hitting it square in its right eye while the other in the middle of its bone mask. Now many guns out there are often used to simply disorientate or stun these fuckers using the dust rounds that you can find pretty much anywhere.
However, my revolver was a different kind of gun. It was a high-caliber, double-action type with a fan the hammer augmentation built into it. And unlike other guns, this guy packed the heat to put even an alpha like this to its knees with a few well-placed shots. The drawback, however... Was that your arm hurt like hell after you fire it...
Thankful for me. I got used to using it over the years. Since this was the gun my old man gave to me after his old man gave it to him. Hence it's not only just a weapon, it's a family legacy in a way.
The Grimm stumbled once the shots impacted against it, the temporary blindness caused it to lose its footing during its momentum. Making it fall onto its side and roll in a heap, making dust and dirt rise as it impacted. However, the impact sent a shockwave strong enough to make Coal lose control of the bike. He fought to balance it out before we ultimately weren't sent flying off and into the forest.
"Uff!" I let out a groan as my back impacted against the ground. My aura shielded me from damage once more as I quickly got up to my feet. Coal however was another story for after he was thrown off the bike. He was sent tumbling down the grassy hill that lead further into the forest. I quickly gave chase after my fellow gang member hoping he didn't land on anything too important. Soon I reach the end of the hill and found him laying on his back, wheezing behind his helmet as the air seemed to have been knocked out of him.
"Anything broken partner? Should I call your ma to come and help ya up?" I said jokingly with a smirk behind my own helmet.
"Fuck you brat! Agghh... Just help me up will ya!" I did as he asked and helped him onto his feet. Once I did so the sound of wood snapping was heard behind me which caused me to look over my shoulder just to see the alpha charging at us, breaking through all the trees that stood in its path. His head missing an eye and a part of his mask where I shot it. No need to waste words we both began to sprint to the left in an attempt to run away from the monster. We managed to keep our distance well enough till we didn't run into a problem.
"Shit!" Coal said as we both stopped just at the edge of the cliff side. Looking down I saw a drop of twenty feet greeting me while the snapping of trees behind us grew louder. We were trapped... Stuck between a drop and a bloodthirsty Grimm. Gritting my teeth I aimed my revolver at the approaching monster, aiming at the spot I shot him previously in the hope to stop it from reaching us. Though its constant bobbing left and right made it hard to aim.
I was about to shoot when Coal grabbed me by the arm and pulled it down, making me look at him in surprise and shock.
"The hell ya doing!?"
"Ain't no way we're getting out like this kid! We gotta jump!"
"Like hell! We wil-" But before I could voice how insane his request was. The bastard pushed me off. He made to follow as well but couldn't do it in time.
For the alpha had caught him in its jaws. The following pained cry echoed throughout the forest.
"Coal!" I yelled out as I was falling down. My eyes widen in terror as I watched my comrade get torn apart by the giant Grimm. Though the scene was soon interrupted by the flow of leaves, branches, and pain.
"Ouch! Aaaahhh! FUCK!" I yelled out in pain time and time again whenever I hit a specifically thick branch on my way down. My aura shattered at the midpoint of my fall, leaving me to deal with increasing pain whenever I was impacted by a branch.
It wasn't long before my body hit the ground and the air was knocked out of my lungs, making me let out a painful wheeze breathlessly. My wheezing soon turned to coughing as I tried to rush air back into my lungs.
"Darn...cough... It..." I said through the painful coughing before managing to take in slow but deep breaths again. Getting up on the shakey legs I looked down at myself for any injuries which thankfully were only a few cuts here and there on my legs, a pain in my back, and slight dizziness in my head.
Taking off my helmet from my head I tossed it to the side and looked around myself. A deep forest surrounded me from every possible angle, the sun up in the air made it look like a nice place to be up on a day like this. I would agree if it wasn't filled with human killing monsters.
Speaking of which I looked up from my landing spot back up to where I last saw the alpha tearing into Coal only to see neither of the two standing at the cliffside anymore. A cold chill ran down my core as I realized that Coal was most certainly no longer with us... Damn it...
"Keep calm Mccree... Steel you're nerves. Less you wanna end up like em." I thought to myself while clutching my fists hard. I was angry no scratch that I was furious about this whole situation. This shouldn't have ended up like this. Coal may have been an overconfident and stubborn prick but even he didn't deserve to go out like this...
Letting out a deep sigh. I managed to calm myself down before lowering my chin towards my chest and closing my eyes. Giving respect to the man whom I rode with for the better part of a year now.
"Hope ya find your better place. Partner..." I said in a sentimental voice after finishing and opening my eyes. I grabbed the duffle beg off the ground as well as my revolver which fell after I came crashing down before looking in all directions at my disposal.
"Now then... I gotta find a way back to the gang before the sun goes down." I thought before looking up at the sun, estimating that it was about 14:00 PM about now. Still, plenty of daylight to spare but unless I don't start moving, I'm afraid that I won't be able to see the sunset.
So I began to head north since that was the direction we originally came from for the heist. It was a direction where our base was located as well, tho far beyond the green landscape surrounding him. I reloaded my revolver as I walked, having it ready if any trouble came my way. Taking the time to dust off any dirt off my jacket as well as best as I could.
I believe I have been walking for a good thirty minutes or so before my ears picked up something coming from my right. My mind went sharp as my revolver was raised in my right hand, pointing at the spot I heard the noise come from. Soon I heard it again this time more clearly than before.
It sounded like someone swinging something through the air which was followed by the sound of tapping against the ground. Almost as if something was running after whatever was making the first sound.
It didn't take a genius to figure out that there was a fight going on over at that spot. Someone was taking on a small horde of Grimms. My guess was a pack of Beowolfs judging by the footsteps I could make out from where I stood.
This piqued my curiosity, however. It was rare in my line of work to run into a scenario quite like this. The one who was fighting the damn monsters must be one of those hunters I heard so much about from the boss. And seeing how they were still alive and kicking, I can safely say they are really good at their job.
However, looking at this from a different perspective. The commotion will no doubt alert more of them to come this way. Which will only result in being a pain in the ass for me later on. The obvious thing for me to do is take advantage of this distraction and be on my merry way.
And yet... Why am I still just standing here...
...
My mind is telling me to keep on going. But my body does not want to follow, there is this strange feeling in my chest that seems to have rooted me in place. My eyes focused on the spot where I can faintly see the shadowed figures fighting. The grip around my revolver tighten and my brows narrowed.
Wait am I seriously considering going over there to help? No! No way in hell! I am Darius Fucking Mccree. A member of the Tomblock gang! I am nothing but a common terrorist. A criminal that's on the shit list of everyone who follows the law of four kingdoms. I can't possibly be considuring going and helping them out. Am I!?
I kept trying to deny the thought of doing such a thing. However, my body kept defying my mind's reasons. Don't know whether it was because I was frustrated with how the shit went down during the job. If it was because I had to see a fellow gang member die. Or because this scenario was very similar to the one that happened a long time ago, back when I was younger than I currently am...
What I'm trying to say is... I was shaking. But not in fear, more so in anger. And well... I guess it wouldn't hurt to let a little of it out right about now. I could always kill the hunter if needed. Though I hope I wouldn't have to. I hate having to kill someone if it could be avoided. Hopefully, they'll give me their word to let me walk off after I help em out. Plus it gonna make my traveling a lot easier since I ain't gonna have to boil all these negative emotions inside, I can let them out right here. For the more of these monsters come, the more targets I have.
With my mindset. I readied my gun and began to walk closer to the conflict. Once I was closer I hide my duffle bag full of goods underneath the bush I was hidden behind, before moving a few leaves away in order to get a better look at what I'm working with.
However, I didn't expect to find that instead of a hunter. There was a huntress fighting two Grimms at once with a big sword in her hands. She wore a coat that was white in color while red on the inside. She has shoulder-length black hair tied in a half-up/half-down style, a pair of silver-colored eyes, and looked to be in her thirties. She wore a black high-neck decolletage blouse with studded wristbands on the arms, a black and white overbust corset, a skirt with white Tuttle underneath, gray leggings, and knee-high boots with red soles.
Seeing this made my state of potentially killing her take a bigger dump. My old man often said that there's no bigger shame in the world than killing a lady. Damn it... I was really starting to regret my decision now... Why can't lady luck ever smile my way...
The sound of action however brought my attention back to the fight. I watched the woman gracefully dodge attacks from both monsters as they viciously tried to land a hit on her. She would try to counterattack only to be forced to dodge again once one of them covered the other after its attack.
This was surprising to see. From as far as I know, Beowolfs are usually one of the least coordinated groups of Grimm out there. They focus more on overwhelming their prey than coordinating their attack. Yet these two are doing exactly that...
Shaking my head to get my thoughts back on track. I saw the huntress continue to struggle to find the opening in their attacks. Ducking and dodging every possible hit they threw at her.
"Guessing her aura is at a point where she can't afore to get hit." I thought as I prepared myself, ready to come out and land a helping hand. Only to see a moment later, the huntress decapitating one of their head cleans off. She did it so fast that I nearly missed it, but she managed to achieve this during the opening of the missed claw swipe.
Her attention was now on the last of the two who tried to pounce at her only for her to roll underneath it and swing her sword from underneath it. Cutting it clean in half as she did so.
... Wow... Not gonna lie. That was fucking awesome. Granted while the two Beowolfs were roughly the newborn ones since they weren't as big as some other ones I had seen. Still taking on two of them at once was nothing to scuff at, especially since they were coordinating their attacks with one another. Something I gotta look into later and tell the boss about this.
But for now, I continued to watch as the huntress stayed kneeling on the ground. Drawing deep breaths in and out as her exhaustion caught up with her. The two Grimms already began to disappear behind her. Man... She must have been fighting for a while if she was this tired. I wonder how many she took down.
Though in the end. It doesn't really matter because it seems that was the last of em. Guess I was getting worked up for nothing... Damn it, Mccree... How many times will you let your gut tell you what to do!? Pa always said to think with you're head not your ass!
Disappointed I began to turn away when a familiar sound of thundering footsteps and wood snapping reached my ears.
"No way..." I thought in shocked realization as my head snapped to the direction of the sound. Only to see the alpha Beowolf charge out of the woods and into the clearing where the huntress was still kneeling on the ground but now had a look of shock and terror on her face.
The giant beast roared down on her before swinging his massive arm towards the huntress. She managed to quickly rise her sword for a block which didn't do much against the enormous backhand from the monster.
The huntress was sent flying across the clearing and collided with a tree. I saw her let out a pained gasp as the air no doubt left her while she fell to her side in pain. The beast growled down at her in hatred, its one eye glowing menacingly re-. Wait!? One eye?
Upon closer inspection. It was indeed missing an eye as well as a part of its skull mask in the middle. It dawned on me then that this was the same alpha that attacked me and the gang earlier. The one that also went after me and Coal as well as killed...
I stopped that train of thought as I felt my anger rise again and my knuckles turned white from how hard I was holding my revolver. This son of a bitch... I was gonna end it right here.
Stepping out into the clearing. I took aim before I fired two shots at its neck which stopped its advance towards the downed huntress as well as let out a loud roar of pain once the bullets dug through its hide.
"Hey... Remember me?" I said with a cocky grin I flashed at the Grimm who growled loudly before proceeding to charge me. And I ain't gonna lie to you. Seeing a monster nearly four times your size charging at ya at full speed no doubt will make anyone fill their pants.
However... I, myself... Didn't feel that way. Sure I was scared. But my hatred for this fucker far outweighed my fear right about now. For this... This was personal.
I matched his charge with my own. It didn't take it too long to cut the short distance between us as it took a swing at me. However, I used my gained momentum to slide under it and fired four more shoots right into its unprotected belly as I slide. The beast roared out in pain once more as I rolled from under it to my left and quickly got to my feet as it tried to drop its body on top of me.
Reloading my six-shooter quickly as I got to my feet. The monster tried to interrupt me by taking a wild swing at me but I rolled backwards. The drum of my revolver clicked into place during the action. Using the momentum to get myself back to my feet, my eyes glared at the big Grimm who stood up on all fours and roared loudly at me.
"Tch... It's high time you get put down. You bastard..." I said as I put my left palm on the hammer of the revolver. My eyes narrowed as they locked with the alphas glowing red one. With one mighty roar, it charged at me again.
However this time. I had it dead in my sights... My vision became a mix of red and light brown, as I could see a red cross slowly forming in the middle of alpha's head. Right where its mask was cracked.
Once the red cross fully formed. I let a victorious grin cross my lips before...
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!BANG!
My left hand slammed on top of the hammer in quick motion as all six shots were fired instantly. Flying with deadly accuracy as they all flew one after another towards the red cross. Hitting the alpha Beowolf right where its head was exposed.
Spinning my gun with a flourish before holstering it. I didn't move an inch as the monster that charged at me began to stumble on its feet before it didn't eventually drop on the ground, the momentum sliding it forward a furthermore where it stopped just in front of my feet.
Now up close I can see the deep hole in the center of its forehead where all six bullets were buried inside. Grinning down at it, I let a spit build up in my mouth before spitting at its deadhead. Letting out satisfied breath afterward.
What just happened was a little specialty that only I possess. My semblance which I had named the Deadeye. It basically improves my already deadly aim into something that never misses its mark. Though it comes with the price of draining my aura as well as it gives me one hell of an itch in my eyes if I use it for too long. Not like I ever need to since it focuses on the most vital part of the body, assuring that once I shoot it. It ain't getting back up again.
"Like shooting fish in the barrel..." I said to myself with a big grin. Satisfied to have finally put this giant pain in the ass down. Now I can focus on the last thing on my 'shit to currently do' list.
I turned around towards the tree the huntress was downed at. But to my surprise, she was gone. Huh? Where did she run off to? Did she just leave me alo-.
RRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!
I was scared shitless as assumed to be dead, alpha suddenly roared right in my face. The spit flew from his mouth onto me as its breath reeked of death. Disgusting... It also was powerful enough to send my small frame flying back and crashing onto the ground. The impact shattered my still recovering aura once more.
"W-Wha... What t-the fuck..." I whispered in disbelief as I watched the giant Grimm slowly rise to its feet and growl at me. Its red eye seemed to be glowing brighter in its fury than before.
"How... How is this thing still moving... I-I... Shot it in the head six times! It should be dead as fuck right now!" Those thoughts kept repeating in my mind as I slowly began to crawl away from the monster in front of me, all while the feeling of terror filled me.
The monster, however, was not about to let its prey get away and with a stumble began to move on very wobble legs towards me. I tried to reach over for the bullets inside my jacket but found another very bad thing.
I ran out of bullets...
The next thing I saw was a shadow casting over me. With the alpha having its claws raised and ready to be brought down upon me. Was this how it ends... Will I die to this piece of shit because I let my own emotions get to me? I'm about end up the same way my old men ended up back then...
Damn it... I'm sorry Ma... Pa... Looks like I failed ya both in the end...
Those were my last thoughts as I closed my eyes and waited for the giant monster to cleve through me. Cursing all the while in my mind at the unfairness of it all. And as for that huntress who left me behind, I hope her kids suffer a horri-.
Wait a minute... Why didn't the pain come? And why is it so quiet all of a sudden?
I dared to open my left eye which was quickly followed by the other one. As my eyes widen at the scene in front of me. Because right on the ground laid the alpha with a sword struck right through its head. The blade went through the crack that I originally made and cut through its flesh. Coming out on the other side underneath its chin.
And the one who stood on top of its head while holding the hilt of the sword was the same huntress that I thought left me for dead out here. Had just saved me from certain death!
She breathed heavily as she pulled out her sword from the monster's head and got off it just as it started to dissolve into nothing. Only when it was fully gone did she set on the ground in an exhausted fashion, taking in deep breaths of relief.
I followed her with a deep sigh of my own. My body shook in terror as my mind registered how close to death I had just come to. A cold sweat broke down my brow as it suddenly became chilly out here.
I don't know how long we just set there. Recovering from exhaustion and traumatized experience, but I knew it passed quite a bit. For when I looked up at the huntress I found her staring at me. Her silver eyes carried within them a look of suprise, confusion, shock, and... Worry?
The awkward silence fell over the clearing as we looked at one another. The tension in the air felt so heavy that you could cut it with a knife. We set like this for a good few seconds before I grew tired of silence.
Raising my hand to my forehead. I gave her two finger salute before saying. "Howdy, ma'am!".
