Title: I Want to Save You

A/N: R and R please. Also, title, I thought it fit this story and I'm trying to write a story for every Something Corporate song. So one down.

"Angel, I was in heaven."
"What?" His response comes back so fast I don't even know if he had time to fully register the words.
"When Will brought me back, I had been in heaven." His eyes show shock and pain for me and he slowly pulls me into his arms. And I cry.
"I'm sorry, Buffy. I'm sorry that you had to come back. I'm sorry that it was your friends that ripped you out. I'm sorry that I couldn't save you." He's crying too now, his head buried into my sweatshirt.
"That's just it, Angel. I think you did save me."
"What?" Again. This might be too much for him. For us.
"When I came back from heaven, I didn't remember everything. All I knew was that I had been happy. I had been in a place where I could be happy and I didn't have to fight evil everyday and there weren't any apocalypses." Small chuckle from the body behind mine. "But slowly I began to remember. I started to remember what it was like up there. My mom was alive. And everybody else who has died while I've been the slayer." His arms tighten around me and he moves his head to rest on my shoulder, staring out at the ocean in front of us. I turn around so that I can face him, meet his still watering eyes with mine. "You were there." He smiles a little and then lays back against the rolled up blanket. I lay down next to him and hear his heart beating under my ear, a sound still new to me. And for the first time in months, I think I just might be okay.
