Notebooks
Ginny keeps a notebook with hearts scrawled all over the cover in red ink and an unsteady hand. She starts off each entry in it with the date in the upper-right corner and the words today I.
She wants to put a Security Spell on it but she doesn't know how (that's big-girl territory, the kind of thing you learn at Hogwarts and won't it be wonderful when she does), so instead she makes a colourful sign decorated with sparkles and glitter. PRIVATE, it says, and she pastes it into the inside cover of her notebook.
Some time after she does this Fred and George come across it (they were looking for chocolate but Ginny doesn't eat sweets; Mum says they'll rot her teeth). Unsure of what to do with their discovery, they flick through the lined pages uncertainly at first, but at the first today Mum told me about Harry Potter. I am going to marry him one day. they fall apart laughing, "shh," hisses George, "she'll hear us, or worse, Mum will, so shut it."
But they don't, and she does.
They say that they're sorry and maybe she believes them. But she doesn't keep notebooks anymore. Instead she keeps friends: good, loyal friends who will never give away her secrets, and maybe she believes that too.
