Someone I used to know

Disclaimer: Ok, It's pretty obvious I don't own Gilmore Girls.
Author's note: I've had this idea in my head for awhile now. I couldn't help noticing how alike Jess and Lorelai really are.
Lorelai sat on the couch listening to her Metallica CD. It was hard to concentrate. Rory had broken up with Dean. Presently she was dating that juvenile delinquent that answered to the name Jess. Lorelai wasn't particularly happy. Sure, she wanted her daughter to be happy. She didn't want to control Rory the way her parents controlled her, but she also didn't want Rory to get hurt. Jess wasn't the type of guy who had long term relationships. Lorelai knew from experience that he was the kind that loved them and left them. Just at the first chorus of "Enter Sandman", she heard the doorbell ring. She hobbled off the couch and answered the door. It was Jess.
"Hi, Mom." Jess greeted Lorelai with his smug grin.
"Rory's not here." Lorelai stated about to close the door in his face.
"Well, where is she?"
"Out"
"When will she be back?"
"Soon' Lorelai rolled her eyes at the teenage boy in front of her with his Metallica shirt. She noticed he was bobbing his head to her music. She sighed. "I guess you can wait inside" she said as she opened the door and beckoned him. She continued to sit back on the couch. "You can wait in the kitchen."
"Yes, Ma'am." He replied as he walked towards the kitchen.
"I know how many forks I own, mister.' She called out from the living room "So don't even try it."
"Why would I want to steal your forks?" he replied. There was a silence. "How low do you think I'd go?" Lorelai trotted into the kitchen.
"Oh, I've heard some crazy stories from Luke about you, mister." She paused for effect. "Like the baseball disappearance of 2002"
"You can't prove anything" He chuckled and looked away. "Why don't you trust me?"
"Because you're dating my daughter."
"So you trusted Dean." He pointed out. "Besides, you've never liked me."
"Dean was responsible."
"Horrible taste in music." Lorelai sighed.
"Oh, I know. He hated Metallica. He also was a member of the Alanis Morisette Fan Club." They laughed. "But that doesn't make you any better. You treat your uncle like crap, and you, you…"
"Act like a criminal?"
"You are a criminal." Lorelai insisted.
"No. Do you seriously believe I'd do anything to hurt anyone? Especially your daughter?" Jess looked her in the eye.
"You have an overwhelming track record. From what I've heard when the going gets tough you run."
"Huh"
"Yes"
"Remind you of anyone?" Jess stood up to look directly at her.
"No. Just you. And Rory's absentee father."
"Anyone else, named, say Lorelai?" Jess smirked. "Running away at sixteen, because you've got yourself knocked up, isn't exactly saintly"
"What!?" Lorelai's mouth gaped.
"I think Rory's the best person I've ever known." Jess sat down again. "Remember that."
Suddenly the door whipped open. "Mom?" Rory called from the living room. She pranced into the kitchen. "Oh, hi Jess." She pecked him on the cheek. "Maybe you should go. I'll talk to you after dinner,"
"Wait, Rory." Lorelai protested. "Why can't Jess stay for dinner?" Rory looked at her mother as if she was crazy. "What? Jess, I'm inviting you to dinner. Obviously, it will be take-out because I can't cook."
"Sure. I'll stay." Jess said smirking. They walked into the living room leaving Rory bewildered. She decided to take this as it came.
"What shall it be, then?" Rory asked. She spotted a flyer. "Oh, how about Indian food?" A simultaneous cry came from the living room.
"Not unless you burn the house down afterwards. That's the only way to get the smell out"
As Lorelai ate her Chinese food that night she pondered. Maybe, Jess wasn't like Christopher, maybe he was more like someone else she used to know, and as long as he loved her daughter, everything would be fine.
