The Cave

A girl carefully picked her way along the undersized beach after her brother. "Look at this, Toya!" she showed the boy a big rock that glittered in the sun. He paused to examine it.

"Yeah that does look nice." He commented before he resumed his ambling. The wind came and stroked the girl's hair. She tucked it in behind her ear and scurried after the lad. Her cheeks bulged when she thought of where they were going. She'd never been out this far before. Now she was going with her brother. He'd even driven her down in his shiny black car and they'd stopped for food. She was so excited.

"Ooo……" she breathed as yet another gem from the sea caught her eye. She bent over to inspect it. She picked it up and clenched it in her fist, feeling the smooth contours of the shell against her palm. Then, she let it drop again and hurried to catch up with her brother. They were at the base of the cliff. A small beach line and numerous rocks impeded their progress. They'd pause now and again when their interest was picked or when some large blunt object happened to encumber on their progress. A large face of rock smiled down on them on their right as, to the left, the sea sang with the lazy sun and the seagulls flew over head. "Almost there Sakura," the older boy said. The girl nodded to herself. 'YES!' Just when the girl thought the cliff face had finally met up with its beloved sea, Toya ducked down and to the right. She saw a hole big enough for her to walk through if she crouched a little. Light vanished into a pale ghost of its former self as she stepped through the threshold into the damp cave. Suddenly, the cave opened its mouth wide.

"Whoa…….."the girl whispered. Light slithered in, and the sea rocked up and down on the pebbles that had collected at the wide opening. She had finally made it to the cave.
