It was a stormy night on privet drive, Harry's uncle Vernon pulled out of the drive and sped off leaving a beaten Harry and crying Petunia Dursley; Petunia thanked mother magic Dudley was at his friend's house and had not witnessed the event that just transpired. The promise she made to her childhood friend Lily to protect Harry at all cost without exposing Vernon to magic. She immediately pulled out her wand upon noticing that her nephew was unconscious and began a long arduous process of healing herself and Harry; Even though she was only hit a couple of times she began healing him after healing Harry she carried him to Dudley's room laying him in his bed; She never agreed with making her nephew sleep in the cupboard under the stairs. However, she did not want to evoke her husband's wrath. The abuse from Vernon did not start till after Harry had his first bout of accidental magic, luckily while her whale of a husband was at work after the event Petunia used a binding spell that would last until Harry's eleventh birthday. After healing herself and cleaning up she went to bed only to be awoken at by the ring of the doorbell looking at the alarm she saw it was only eight in the morning, getting up and putting on her housecoat as she walked downstair hoping Harry was not woken by the sound she opened the door to see to police officers. The officers apologized for waking her so early on a Saturday and regret to inform her that Vernon had died in a single vehicle accident.
Harry woke up in Dudley's room confused, looking at the clock best he could without his glasses he realized it as half passed ten; he finally found his glasses and rushed down the stairs into the kitchen and started cooking the usual breakfast of bacon and eggs and fixed everyone's plate. As he sat down at the table curious as to where his uncle was, shaken from his thoughts upon hearing is cousin come in setting the post down on the table before shoving Harry from is chair to the floor. As he hit the floor Dudley grabbed a plate and started eating, as Harry got back to the table, he found two letters one addressed to him and another addressed to his cousin Dudley. About that time is aunt Petunia walked in and set down. " Dudley, Harry" Petunia said Harry surprised by the use of his name. Yes, aunt Petunia " harry said. Looking up to see his aunt had been crying. "Oh, Dudley there is a letter for you... " Harry said. "It's about Vernon he passed away early this morning." Petunia stated Dudley looked up from his letter looking shocked "Mum what is Hogwarts?"
Petunia looked up and smiled a little remembering her past school days with Lilly. Shaking herself from reminiscing she looked at Dudley "Son there is something that I must tell you about your father, and Hogwarts is a school for witches like me and wizards like you and Harry." Dudley who was in the middle of enjoying a bite of his bacon and eggs he looked up at his mum thinking she had gone nuts. "Vernon is not your father he is your stepfather." Petunia said exhaling not realizing that she was holding her breath.
Harry's mind began spinning at the confession of his aunt's declarations. Dudley who was coming to the realization that is why things happened to him when his father would belittle him calling him the son of a bastard. Harry seeing his cousin walked over and hugged him which made harry worry was Dudley going to hit him; but Dudley hugged Harry unknowing to his cousin Dudley blamed Harry for is dad's death. Sure, Vernon was not Dudley's biological father, but he raised him as if he were his own son and that was enough for him. Some would argue that Dudley was living in a broken home, however to him it was normal.
Petunia realized it was time to go get Harry and Dudley's school things went to her room not caring to shut the door went to her safe unlocking it with her wand she reach in and grabbed Harry's vault key which she promised Lily and James should anything happen to them she would keep it for Harry, she also grabbed a letter from Lord and Lady Greengrass knowing it was time to speak with them again. With a quick look at the calendar she realized that it was Daphne's eleventh birthday, she made a mental note to get the eldest Greengrass daughter a present.
Meanwhile five hundred and sixteen miles in Fort William the Greengrass family was busy getting ready for their trip to Diagon alley, Nathan and his wife Myra was enjoying a cup of coffee something they picked up on while visiting family in Salem. Astoria came in laughing at her older sister who could not shake a dream she had been having. In her dream she would see a boy her age with raven colored hair with a scar, she tried her best to remember more about the dream but could not for the life of her. As soon as she walked into the kitchen she was awoken from her thoughts when her parents and little sister yelled "Happy Birthday!" blushing she set down and thanked them as her mother handed her a letter from Hogwarts. Unable hold back her excitement she opened it and read it aloud.
"I am happy I got accepted I just hope I make you and dad proud of me mum" she said looking at her parents before realizing this meant a trip to Diagon alley, she quickly grabbed the quill her mother was holding and wrote her reply before excusing herself to get dressed.
Astoria looked at her mother and father and finally Nathan spoke up saying in a loving tone "Stori your turn will come in time I know it is hard waiting. I remember watching your Uncle go to school before me and I felt just as you do in this moment." Hearing what her dad said she smiled for an Auror he was in her opinion a softie. As Daphne walked in Nathan stood up looking at his family "We are going to have a guest coming home with us from shopping." He said as he and his wife walked out of the kitchen to their room closing the door.
As soon the door was closed Myra looked at her husband sighing as she hugged him, she knew talking about his older brother was difficult for him. She looked into his eyes and knew exactly what he was thinking in regard to their eldest daughter and possible Astoria to since they were practically inseparable. "I know this contract you and James wrote up for Daphne and Harry is unbreakable, but I fear Astoria will be involved somehow I am not sure how quite yet but something my mother said the other day still haunts me." She stated with worrisome look, Nathan could only nod in agreement as he went to his writing desk and retrieve the letter his former protégé James had left him.
"My love I do believe you are correct in your presumption; However, I know James, Lily, and yourself rechecked the results on the spell. We just don't know what magic can do in this situation." He said to with a stern voice like he was trying to convince himself more than his wife. After they got ready, they meet the girls in the study. "Now girls be on your best behavior or no dessert for a week understand?" Nathan said with a hint of a smile making his daughters realize it was an empty threat unless their mother got involved, making the girls giggle to which their father started laughing as well.
Once they all and regained their composure Nathan accompanied his youngest through the floo to the Leaky Cauldron, while Myra stopped her eldest daughter and looked her in the eye. "Daphne, I know that you and I have discussed your dreams in detail and that promised I would tell you what I know. The boy you are dreaming about is non-other than Harry James Potter. The reason I did not tell you before is because of an oath I made to not reveal it until now." Myra paused for a couple seconds to make sure Daphne was paying attention which she was, so she continued, "Lily and I found out your father and James made a marriage contract between you and Harry. Needless Lily and I were ready to hex them into space; however, we used an ancient spell and found that you and he are soul mates. That is why you are dreaming of him only your magic is searching for him while you dream." She finished worried her daughter would freak out or curse like her father at a quidditch match, to her surprise neither happened.
Daphne looked at her mom her thoughts going a mile a minute until she realized that explained why she felt incomplete in her soul. "Mum I suspected as much since the dreams started, I began reading every book I could find until grandma gave me this book." As she spoke, she pulled ancient looking tome the title was in Scots Gaelic the translation was Soul Bonds. "I know that this book is not meant to be read with out a firm understanding in magic; But grandma assisted me with the text." She said with a quick explanation to avoid her mother's wrath.
Myra nodded while making a side note to speak with her mother about the book before deciding to not press the issue. "I appreciate your honesty in telling about the book. I believe we best go meet with your father and sister." She said before they used the floo.
Petunia walked downstairs with Harry's vault key and letter in hand. Harry was talking with Dudley about their holiday too busy in conversation to notice that she had returned to the kitchen. "Boys come with me we are going to London; And Harry there are some people that I know you would enjoy meeting they knew your parents." Petunia said with a hint of happiness Harry looked up excitedly as Dudley lumbered upstairs to change wondering about Hogwarts and who his real father was, even though he still seen his stepdad as his father.
While Dudley was getting dressed harry was dwelling on his dream about a girl with blonde hair and the most perfect shade of blue eyes in his opinion. Decided to go into the back yard to clear his head Harry seen a garden snake that he would talk to like a friend due to the fact his cousin scared everyone at school into shunning him. "Hello Arron have a pleasant evening?" he asked thinking he was speaking English.
"Yessss youngling until the brute squad showed up this morning and spoke with your aunt." Arron said as coiled up on Harry's lap. The reply made Harry laugh for some reason Arron was obsessed with calling the police that since he and Harry had watched the Princess Bride when everyone was gone.
"I should have not watched that movie with you Arron, because now all you do is quote it" Harry said through his laugh. "Arron I will be going to a school called Hogwarts and I am allowed a pet would you consider accompanying me as my pet?" he asked thinking Arron would say no yet he was surprised when he seen said snake nodded so he gently put Arron in his pocket
Petunia was getting the boys in the car for long drive from Surrey to London. Harry was worried do to the fact he had misfitting clothes; but also do to the fact he was wondering if he would see the girl from his dreams. The girl with dirty blonde hair that reach the middle of her back with beautiful ocean blue eyes. All of the sudden there was a bright flash of gold and Harry's clothes for reasons unknown to him fit exactly right, he laughed when he heard Arron say "Call the brute squad" in alarm.
