Epilogue 2

(for Phoebe)

Thousands of miles away, Catherine Rollins hand automatically went to the side arm she always carried hidden in a thin, discrete holster. Someone had knocked on her hotel room door and she'd already gotten her room service hours earlier. The trays were in the hallway, just outside the locked door. This made no sense and down time was never down time in her line of business.

"Who is it?" She asked carefully, her body off to the side in the narrow hallway.

"Belson, Hotel Manager." A male voice announced. "I have a gift … from an S. McGarrett. He called the hotel and asked that we receive this gift for you … bring it up special … on his behalf."

Catherine frowned, but she carefully thumbed the locks open. Sure enough the Manager was standing there, holding a small box.

"Thanks," she said as she quickly shoved her small gun to the rear of her jeans. She took the box, nodded again, as she used her foot to push the door firmly shut. The box was wrapped with a card next to a slender gold bow.

Cath stood as she unwrapped the box and then hummed a perplexed sound under her breath. The Macallan 25 Year Old Sherry Oak Single Malt Scotch Whisky was a favorite of hers. Something that Steve would very well know. A special splurge for special occasions.

Still? This didn't make too much sense based upon how they'd left things. Or maybe, he was coming back? Cath couldn't quite see that happening though. She made a face, confused, as she turned her attention to the card. The simple white envelope held a similarly simple white card. The sentiment inside was as simple as everything else.

Thank you for everything. S.

"What the hell?" Cath whispered to herself, utterly bewildered by the strange gift.

End.
