So there aren't many Adrigami fics huh? I love the Love square to death but it's a little oversaturated so I shall write about my second favourite Adrien pairing and it will be... good? I don't know maybe
Takes place after the events of Rocketear
"How can you trust someone who's lied to you?"
"When I'm ready to see you again… i'll let you know"
Adrien's life since his breakup with Kagami seemed to be a constant downward spiral, First he lost Chloe his Oldest friend, Then the incident with Rocketear and Nino's anti Chat Noir tirade, ever since Mega Leech his father had been even colder to him than usual and on top of all that Ladybug had been distant, he knew she never liked him or at least not the way he liked her but he was starting to wonder if she even considered him a friend.
Worse than all this he had nobody to talk to, As far as Nino knew he had no reason to be upset and Adrien wasn't going reveal his identity, Chloe didn't want to talk to him, He only really hung out with Alya when he was with Nino and he didn't really know how to talk to her when they were alone, Marinette wasn't really an option he liked her well enough but she didn't seem to be able to talk to him.
He only really had two options, one was Plagg but he wasn't the best person or… Kwami to talk to, he knew Plagg cared about him but he was a little too lazy to give any advice or when he did it wasn't any use, after the incident with Rocketear he had basically told him to never question Ladybug which was definitely not what he needed to hear. The only other person he could talk to was Kagami.
Sure, maybe he had never loved Kagami. But he certainly cared about her. They were friends before they'd dated and he hoped they could be friends again. Adrien didn't want Kagami to hate him. He had to try to apologise, even if she didn't accept it. He would never forgive himself if he didn't at least try. He'd considered telling her his secret identity several times but he knew he couldn't, Ladybug had been pretty clear on that from day one.
"I've gotta talk to her" Adrien said quietly, mostly to himself not even realizing he'd said it out loud.
"Talk to who kid?" Plagg asked through a mouthful of cheese only half listening to Adrien.
"Kagami, I know she's not super happy with me right now but I really need to speak to her, I don't wanna lose another friend" Adrien sighed looking out the window into the night sky.
"Kid she broke up with you at the first sign of trouble - the girls got some issues" Plagg nonchalantly replied through a mouthful of cheese.
"Who doesn't? I was constantly lying to her. If I was her I'd probably think I was cheating on her. It's no wonder she broke things off with me" He looked at his ring for a second and Plagg could immediately tell what he was thinking. "She might not wanna see Adrien right now but what about Chat Noir?"
"Kid didn't you just say the problem was you lying to her, isn't this just doubling down?" Plagg had been holding something of a grudge against Kagami since their break up but more lies were not the answer.
"I don't want to but it's the only way she'll even talk to me right now, I can't go during the day, we're both too busy for that. It's not too late right? She should still be awake if I go now, right?" Plagg had a feeling that regardless of his answer they'd go anyway.
"Personally I think it's a mistake" was all Plagg decided to say as he finished the cheese knowing he couldn't talk Adrien out of his idea.
"Probably… but it's mine to make. Plagg claws out!"
It was around 10pm but Kagami couldn't really sleep. Fencing training had been a bit of a wash; her and Adrien were by far the best in the class and Mr D'Argencourt seemed to sense the tension between the pair choosing to keep them away from each other. It was probably for the best but the rest of the class couldn't last a minute against her.
Kagami didn't regret breaking things off with Adrien, it had to be done. He was always disappearing without a trace, lying to her about what he was doing and he had missed more dates than he'd made. All that said she still missed him not that she could show it, Tomoe Tsurugi could make Gabriel Agreste himself look caring, Kagami had to be cold and deliberate showing emotion was tantamount to showing weakness.
Kagami heard a thud from her roof before a knock on her window. She took a hold of a Sabre and slowly approached the window, opening it hesitantly. She couldn't see anything at first until she noticed a pair of green eyes. "Uh hello" She loosened her grip on the hilt stepping back from the window.
"Chat Noir? Is there an Akuma?" She eyed him cautiously as he climbed inside shed never seen him like this before and he seemed awkward, perhaps even nervous.
"No, no akuma I was just… hoping for someone to talk to and you're my best option." Despite his best efforts to sound natural it came off as almost robotic. He couldn't talk to her like he was Adrien but it was just so hard to not talk like himself.
"Correct me if i'm wrong but we don't know each other all that well do we wouldn't you rather talk to Ladybug or Rena?" She shut her window and slowly went over to her bed, sitting down inviting him to sit with her. She could use someone to talk to herself and her mother was already asleep.
"Well you were Ryuko right? We've met a couple times and I can't really talk to Ladybug or Rena about this because they're kinda part of the problem and Carapace told me to my face he thinks I'm annoying so he's not really an option." He sighed as he sat at the end of her bed making sure to give her enough space.
"I see that sounds like a difficult situation, regrettably I'm not the best at talking to people so my advice might not be very helpful" Kagami found herself oddly relaxed, she hadn't spent too much time with Chat Noir but there was something familiar about him but she couldn't quite place it, the way he carried himself, the way he looked at her all assured her she could trust him. "But if you want someone to vent to i'll listen"
"Thanks kagami, i'd be happy to return the favour sometime" he paused for a second. There was a lot to say, it took him a minute to figure out where to start. "Well I guess it started shortly after the Miracle queen incident, When she became the guardian and obviously that came with a lot of responsibilities but she wouldn't, or couldn't, let me help. She's got all these rules but they seem to change from day to day. We can't know each other's identities but Carapace and Rena Rouge can? She didn't tell me that by the way, I found out by myself. She lies to me all the time about the most insignificant things. She thinks I don't know but anyone with eyes could see she doesn't trust me as much as she claims to and maybe i'm being paranoid but… I think Rena Rouge knows her identity their so familiar with each other and they always arrive together like they were together when they transformed it's like she doesn't even need me anymore"
He hadn't realised how long he had been talking for but from the way Kagami had been looking at him it had been too long that was quite a lot to dump on someone all at once. After a moment she spoke in. "That's quite a lot to take in at once, I know it seems like obvious advice but have you tried talking to her about how you're feeling? Even if she's been distant she's still your partner" She found it a little Ironic she broke things off with Adrien because he lied to her but she was advising Chat Noir to talk things out.
"I'm not so sure we are partners anymore, ever since she became guardian she's been my boss, plagg told me I shouldn't question her what if it's against one of the rules? What if she takes my miraculous? Being Chat Noir is pretty much the best part of my life" he was assuming the worst of course but he just couldn't help it.
"Do you really think she would do that?" interesting how a few words from her could put him at ease like that. He'd known all along Ladybug wouldn't do that but hearing her say it was just so reassuring to him.
"I'll talk to Ladybug when I get the Chance worth a try I guess" He honestly didn't think it would work even if she stuck around to talk to him chances are she'd just say 'I can't tell you' or 'it has to be a secret if I could tell you I would" still at least she'd know how he was feeling. His opportunity would come sooner than he'd thought as he got a message from ladybug letting him know about a late night akuma "well i've got a city to save thanks for listening Kagami" he waved goodbye as he ran over to the window.
"You're" She looked back to see he had already vanished into the night sky "welcome"
"Be safe" was her last thought as she lay back down attempting to get some sleep.
