.

As the family sat quietly around the living room table, pondering the information that the former Queen Seondeok, who is actually their mother, the siblings were left dumbfounded. While Bidam hugged his beloved wife, Deokman.

For who would have thought about such a possibility...

But then, all the clues pointing towards their mothers' uncanny leadership style and how she carries herself, should have rung a bell towards her Kingship.

But then, she was also very down to earth and humble. Even soft spoken. For they never once heard her raised her voice. And is always kind to everyone, whether she was talking to rich and poor people.

Yuan also remembered all the structured educational curriculum that his mother introduced him to. Business and politics, as well as international relations and laws. Though he assumed that it was because they have business outside of the kingdom in different places.

Was his mother preparing him to become a Shillan Royalty?

Now that he had completed his journey to finish his 3rd medical book, and is about to get married. This revelation shook the foundation of his existence and plans for the future.

Queen Jaein looked at her mother in awe. Though she had always idolized her mother's intelligence and leadership skills, the fact that she is the first ever female king in the entire history of the former three kingdoms of han that is now been united under her husband- king Munmu's reign, proved how legendary and great she is.

Now understanding the determination she saw in her mother to unite the three kingdoms even though they were 'exiled' from Shilla for committing treason.

It blows her mind away. For she had thought that she already knows everything about most things in history and politics.

Realizing now how wrong she was to assume that she's intelligent enough to surpass her parents. Thus she vowed to continue her education more determindly, until she too can create a name for herself.

On the other hand, Buyeon remain silent unable to think or even say anything. Barely able to breathe because of shock. She doesn't know how to describe her feelings at the moment.

After listening to her mother's secret history about being the first ever female king, left her eternally surprised. For she had always thought that her mother is just too kind and warm-hearted. And because she felt like she was the black sheep in the family, who always skip study classes with her mother, to learn sword fighting from her father. She thought that her mother lack fierceness.

Humorous...

Because her mother being the great Queen Seondeok means that she is a tigeress ruling over lions. Mind blowing.

At first, she was disappointed and doesn't really understand where her mother is going with her story, now she finally understand why she did, what she did.

Queen Seondeok ordered to kill Bidam, to ensure the safety and strength of the throne of Shilla, even if she had let her emotions sway her into choosing illogical decision out of love, for a king like her, even though it is extremely dangerous for her.

Their mother chose them instead of her beloved Shilla.

This made her reasses her life. Being born in the family that is regarded as a respected noble and wealthy family, watching her older siblings act like perfect and intelligent people, mature beyond their age.

She had felt inadequate... That she was lacking.

That she isn't as good enough as her older brother and sister. And so, she tried her best to not be like them. She refused to study, because she find it boring. She refused to take apprenticeships, because the only thing she wanted to do is to become a great swordsman like her father.

And because she felt like a disappointment to her mother, she rarely speak to her. Though, what she really wanted to do is to stay by herside.

But the thought of wearing those stiff clothing and doing formalities, made her cringe in abhorence.

She wants her freedom. Just like how her older siblings were allowed to do what they like and to travel without guards.

But then, her mother always nag her to study first before she could let her do what she like. She doesn't understand why studying how to fake pleasantries and smiling to people you can't stand is helpful to anyone.

And now, after learning her mother's path to become the first female king and rule over shilla for 15 years, made her understand the significance of the lessons she taught them that were actually based on experience of leading a troubled country.

And that in the end, her mother chose them instead of her throne.

A tear fell from her eyes. Feeling remorseful. And accepting the fact that she had been an idiot all along.

Hoping that one day, she can also be a great leader like her mother.

The Great Queen Seondeok. Who started as a cursed twin, and was supposed to have been killed for the royal family to survive. Who lived in the desert not knowing that she is a princess, and pretending to be a male as a soldier, and fought to reclaim her right as a princess. And finally becoming the first female king at the age of 22.

While her father, Bidam, who also has no idea that he was a prince and Lady Mishil's son, fought alongside her mother to help her get the throne. To the point of being the reason his mother surrendered to death after her rebellion.

And together they helped unite the three kingdoms of han under the united Shilla of today.

'My parents story is amazing!' Buyeon thought, and thus she aspire to continue protecting the lands of united Shilla as the next leader of Munmyung guild. Vowing that the unknown secret guild will forever protect the entire land from harm and maintain relative peace.

And soon after many centuries, the Munmyung guild will still exist in modern area and secretly known as the Gotei 13.

"If the king was able to do such a thing. Then there is no need to worry" Adviser Jukbang told Prince Chunchu. "Even if the king marries the prime minister, she was able to transfer the military forces of all aristocrates under Head general Yushin. And that's an impossible fit that she did. She's amazing!"

"If my aunt is marrying for politics, then I would have no worries" the prince say, making Jukbang curious. "The king and the prime minister wants to live as true married couple"

"Well, it's natural" Jukbang commented in understanding. "Our king is still a human. She has needs that only Bidam can give, which the nation cannot provide"

"Yes I know" he agreed. "But a king like her... Is she allowed to do it? The people, her surroundings, and Shilla... Will they let someone occupy a piece of the king's heart?"

Jukbang fell silent, pondering.

For indeed, the king shouldn't be preoccupied of love for only one person, because everybody else would be jealous of the attention. And losing attention also means losing control. And such would lead to imbalance and then chaos.

That's the fate of those who stand above everyone. Loneliness and isolation. If the king wished for the kingdom to survive and progress, sacrifices needs to be made. Else the gravity of power will force her to crumble.

"The king and Bidam, is taking a very dangerous path" Prince Chunchu stated.

.

.

On the otherhand, Bidam's people found out about his promise to give up his position and power when the king dies. And eventually follow her to the afterlife.

"What's the use of these documents to us?!" Hajong yelled in anger. "Nothing!"

"We need to speak with the prime minister and inform him of our dissatisfaction of his decision without even consulting us! "Minister Jujin said.

"Yes! Let's tell him so that he know!" everyone said.

"Silence!" Yumjong yelled. "You know our Prime Minister's attitude, don't you?! Do you think he would listen to us?! That he will not do as he promised?! Or not marry the king?! "

Everyone remained silent, knowing for along time that Bidam is loyal to the king and totally in love with her, like a fool.

"No! It will never happen! " Yumjong declared." he will never listen to us! "

Everyone in the room become horrified of their fate, if they let Bidam do as he like. They would lose their power entirely if the King dies.

Thus they agreed to create scenarios that would force Bidam to claim the throne as his birth right, for being the son of king Jinji and Seju Mishil, and his destiny.

If only Bidam wasn't so blinded by love, he could be the most powerful king of Shilla because of his intelligence, shrewd and cunning ability to execute his plans efficiently without mercy. Gaining immense power and influence dispite only being a director of a small agency.

And so, many aristocrates and people believe in him. But now, Bidam abandon them for his selfish wish to marry the king out of love, like an idiot who promise to give up everything without hesitation and consideration for them.

.

.

"Your highness?" Bidam called from behind the door of the king's bedroom. "This is Bidam"

"Enter" the king said, seating on her chair studying the reports of each departments and laying down her plans to unite the three kingdom when she's gone.

Bidam saw her looking over some documents even though it's already very late.

"Just as I thought, you are still not in bed" Bidam said, looking at Deokman tenderly.

"There are still so many things I need to finish and read" she reasoned smiling at her bethrode.

Bidam went to her side and held her hand, pulling her to the bed. He made her seat on the edge of the bed, and prepare the beddings for her, like a caring husband to his wife.

Deokman watched Bidam in amusement, and just let him take charge. As though she is not a king.

"Your highness" he called his beloved, pointing at the bed. "your bed is already set"

She looked at Bidam, and finally conceding to sleep. Lying on the bed while he put the covers on her. Then he sat next to her.

"Close your eyes" Bidam said, looking at Deokman. "You need to sleep"

Deokman looked at her lover. "the truth is... I am mostly awake during the night"

Bidam looked at his beloved, worried.

Deokman suddenly sat up, making Bidam seat in front of her on the bed.

"I have a question" she said looking at him. "Whenever I talked to you coldly... Do I hurt your feelings?"

Bidam smiled, touched with her concern for him. "No. Wait... Why are you having difficulty sleeping in the night?"

Deokman looked at her lover, smiling slightly.

"I don't know why... Everytime I close my eyes, I felt like my chest is tightening" she admitted, thought she had never let anyone know about it before.

"But then why? " Bidam asked tenderly in worry.

"I am worried that... I started something I wasn't able to finish" she confessed. "Like a huge mistake I did..."

Bidam looked at his beloved, in pity.

"My heart would beat so fast... And suddenly I became tearful." she said, looking at a distant.

Bidam took a deep sigh, feeling the burden she's carrying.

"Try lying down" he said, holding unto her arms to lie her on the bed.

Then Bidam rested his hand on her chest and patted the place where her heart is.

"Now... Do it still beat fast?" he asked his beloved tenderly.

"Not anymore" she said, smiling up at Bidam.

"Your highness... I will watch over you, until you fell asleep" he said, smiling at Deokman.

"When I was young, my heart also beats fast" she related.

"Why?" Bidam asked softly." Did you also worry about something back then? "

"It's not because of worrying" she answered. "I was thinking about the happiness tomorrow would bring... Who the people I mighy know... The items my trader friends brought... I want to ask them about the past yesterday... About the places they visited... And..."

Bidam looked at his beloved tenderly, wishing that he could give her everything that her heart desires. For she is everything that is good in his life.

The one person who can make him smile and be grateful about life. His only comfort in this terribly lonely world. The only one who truly understands and accepts him for who he is.

Thus Bidam love Deokman so much to the point he doesn't even know possible, for someone like him.

Deokman smiled in her sleep.

.

.

The next morning, the king met with her top officials about sending a diplomatic representative to Tang empire to aid them with their fight against Gogoryeo and Baekji.

Prime minister then propesed that because of their long standing trade partnership, they would support them.

Alcheon looked at Bidam, while the king agreed.

.

.

Later, the Tang ambassador came and humiliated the king in front of her Ministers and officials, saying that the reason their country is under attack constantly by other kingdoms is because they have a weak and female king.

The king boiled in anger, but she remained silent, letting the official further incriminate himself.

"Thus our emperor proposed that, if you marry his son and thus become the king of Shilla, he will immediately help this small country" the ambassador. "Think about it"

Bidam boiled in anger and was about to take action. But the king called for General Alcheon.

"Immediately imprison him and his people to Jowan" she commanded her head of the royal guard.

Everyone looked at the king in surprise and worry.

"Prince Chunchu, send a diplomatic representative immediately" the king ordered. "he needs to confirm if what this person said is the word of their emperor himself or not"

"We represent our great emperor, you can't treat as like criminals!" the ambassador said.

"If that is what your emperor said, then I will immediately severe our relationship with your country" the king warned. "But if it's only your word, then I shall kill you immediately"

The court become worried.

"Listen, General Alcheon." the king called.

"Yes, your highness" Alcheon agreed.

"Until we are uncertain about the validity of his claims" the king declared. "Imprison them all in Jowan. Understood"

"Yes, your highness " Alcheon said before calling his men to arrest the ambassadors.

The king looked at them in silent anger.

.

.

The ministers express their worries about how the king treated the ambassadors. While Bidam is trying his best not to show his anger about their insolence to criticize the king for imprisoning those bastards, knowing that some of their words are relevant to the country's security.

On the otherhand, the king remain silent, listening to their opinions and feedback.

"Our borders maybe in danger because of what happened, your highness" Minister Jujin said.

"Correct" the king agreed. "That's why I already began dealing with them ethically"

Everyone remain silent, pondering.

"The number one etiquette of international agreement, is to face any threat and use it as an advantage in negotiation.

Prime Minister Bidam looked at Deokman in surprise, just now understanding the leverage they have on their hands.

Everyone finally get what their king is meaning.

"And another code" the king said, looking at her ministers. "If I exchanged harsh words with the ambassadors, I would fell on their trap. That's why I didn't argue with issues they started"

Everyone took a deep breath, realizing once again how shrewd their king is when it comes to business and politics.

"And one more thing" the king added. "I want to know something"

"What is it, your highness?" Minister Yungchun asked.

"To know what their mission is, and why did they humiliate you. your highness?" Prince Chunchu also asked.

"When speaking to another country, it is not allowed to say unnecessary statements" the king said, looking at her ministers. "But then, they dare to humiliate me in front of my Ministers and officials"

Everyone became uneasy. Wondering why the ambassadors would do such a thing in front of their king, inside their court. They maybe a representative from a powerful empire, but there are still ethics when it comes to international relations.

"Surely, they wish to get a huge favor from Shilla" the king wisely said. "That's why I need to know what are their real mission"

.

.

"When the ambassadors pay the guards, let them. But they should take the items to me" the king instructed General Alcheon.

"Yes. Because they might try to communicate with their business partners in Seorobol" Prince Chunchu said.

"And if they ask to speak with me, deny them" she added.

"It is unacceptable for them to just talk to the king without revealing their true intentions" Prince Chunchu added.

"That's right" she said. "We need to know what they needed from us"

"What if they remain stubborn and stay silent" Alcheon asked. "What should we do, your highness?"

"They would surely won't be able to remain silent for long" she said, knowing how people act in difficult situations. "they would feel extreme fear and anxiety"

"That's right" Prince Chunchu agreed. "When a person's mind is in chaos, he would be able to reveal any secret"

The king smiled. For this situation can be a negotiation advantage.

.

.

Later the King received a raven fan, that was meant to be given to Prime Minister Bidam.

Puzzled, they wondered what is the significance of the item. Suddenly Prince Chunchu remembered about the secret way the spies and ambassadors of other countries, utilize ravin wings as secret letters.

Not long, they found out the contents of the letter, instructing the ambassadors to humiliate the king and her ability to lead in front of everyone. And if they did so, the Prime Minister would lend them 30,000 soldiers to aid them.

"Bidam..." Deokman uttered, shaken.

The king felt weakened. She could not believe that her lover would do such a thing.

Everyone became worried, while Chunchu is angered.

"Your highness, this is a clear betrayal!" he yelled. "He had promised to give up power to you, but then behind your back he wants to become the king!"

"Don't say that" the king admonished the prince, feeling her heart palpitate in anxiety.

"If that wasn't his mission, how will you explain his name written on this secret agreement?!" the prince asked angrily. "This is unforgivable! So you have to punish him severely!"

"Don't judge him, just yet" the King argued.

Chunchu looked at his aunt, suspecting that her feelings for Bidam is getting in the way of her logic and judgment. Thus he marched out in anger.

While Yushin run after him. Followed by Alcheon, worried that the Prince would do something reckless.

The king was left on the verge of tears, and anger. Trying not to let her emotions get the better of her. For if it is indeed true that Bidam betrayed her...

She doesn't know what she would do...

Her faith in Bidam is shaking to the core, because she feared Bidam more than any enemy. Knowing that the one you love the most, can also hurt you in the worst way possible.

.

.

Bidam felt like the world is crumbling down on him, because the King now knew that his name was written in a secret agreement between Misaeng and the ambassadors, to humiliate her.

Looking at his hand, he remembered the time when Munno began to push him away because of what he did when he was younger. No matter how much he fights to hold her forever, the people around them won't let him.

And now, it seems like, he is about to lose the one he loved the most in the world because of what his hand has end up doing, though indirectly.

For his people used his name, to hurt the one he love in the most wretched way.

Now, he couldn't possibly return to the life he once had with Deokman.

Bidam's hand trembled in fear and anxiety. For the path in front of him is narrowing down, and tearing him apart.

.

.

Prince Chunchu went to the King and reported that Bidam disobeyed her orders to not let anyone speak with the ambassadors, by meeting them.

"Because of that, it's like his admitting his crimes" Prince Chunchu concluded, hoping to enlighten his aunt about her bethrode's betrayal.

Then suddenly the servant announced that Prime Minister Bidam wishes to speak to the king.

Making everyone worried.

"Your highness" Alcheon called. "I will speak to him"

"Don't" the king ordered. "It's unnecessary."

Alcheon looked at the king worried, knowing that they are lovers.

"Bidam" the king said. "Let him enter"

"Your highness!" Prince Chunchu protested.

"Let him enter!" the king commanded.

.

.

On the otherhand, Bidam's men began to mobilize without him knowing. For they feared that the Prime Minister would betray them, seeing as he is loosing his mind. Too blinded by love to see that he is incriminating himself even further by confessing his sins.

They knew that when their crimes were revealed, the king would immediately exterminate them. Either way, they would lose their power and wealth if they don't fight.

And so, they prepared themselves for the inevitable civil war. Worried.

.

.

Bidam sat in front of everyone, humbled.

The king revealed the ravin fan, making everyone worried. While Bidam became terrified.

"The ambassadors wants you to receive this" the king said calmly. "They must have thought that they can bribe you to speak to me"

"Your highness" Bidam said, looking at his beloved.

The king looked at her lover, trying not to let him sway her logic and judgment.

"That fan contains a secret agreement" he confessed without hesitation, making the king look at him in surprise.

Everyone remain silent, listening attentively.

"They secretly spoke with the ambassadors using my name" he added, looking at his beloved sincerely. "Because they found out that I plan to retire from my position when..."

Bidam felt unease, looking around. "... When you die first"

The king become worried.

Everyone remain silent, while Chunchu knows everything about Bidam's promise to follow the king in the afterlife if her aunt die first.

Alcheon looked at Bidam in surprise and worry, knowing that such promise would incriminate Bidam against his people- the aristocrates. Because if the prime Minister retires, all the aristocrates' military will fall under the next king's control. Realizing that Bidam truly loved the king to give up everything and become his people's enemy.

"For them, what I promised was a huge threat, your highness" Bidam reasoned.

"Those you mentioned. Are they the only once who planned everything?! You are not associated with them in any way?!" Prince Chunchu argued.

"No" Bidam answered.

"It's because of your name, written in the agreement why the ambassadors humiliated our king!" Prince Chunchu questioned. "And now you claim you have nothing to do with them?! And that you were used?! I can't believe it!"

Bidam became worried, knowing that proving his innocence is seemingly impossible in this situation.

"Bidam" the king called the Prime Minister. "I believe in you"

Bidam immediately looked at his beloved in surprise. "Your highness?"

Everyone become worried.

"Your highness!" Prince Chunchu protested.

"I believe in what you say" the king said to Bidam.

Bidam became silent, taking in the amount of trust his beloved put upon him.

"But your highness!" Prince Chunchu argued. "There are still people who betrayed you!"

"I will solve that matter" the Prime Minister firmly declared.

The king looked at Bidam in surprise. While everyone remain silent, staring at the Prime Minister.

"It happened because of me" Bidam said. "And they are my people. Let me deal with them.

The king pondered about Bidam's suggestion.

Bidam looked at his beloved." I, Bidam, your highness, promise to solve this problem I created"

The king looked at Bidam.

Later Bidam exited the king's office breathing deeply, feeling incredibly relieved that he didn't lose Deokman. For his beloved still believe and trusted him, despite everyone's suspecions and his short-commings.

He smiled, grateful.

And thus he vowed to solve the problem at hand, even if he shall kill every single one of his people.

.

.

"Your highness, Bidam won't be able to solve the problem alone" Prince Chunchu said. "He reported to us, the people who have different motives. And because of that, I become more worried. Even if we shall believe his promise, for sure, his people will no longer believe in him. And so, you should stop Bidam and his people, your highness"

"Under my leadership, Bidam always end up being the bad one" the king chastised. "And he is playing that role, even though, so many people wanted to eliminate him."

The prince fell silent, seeing the convection in the King's eyes.

Everyone remained silent. While Alcheon looked at the King, knowing how deep the King actually cared for Bidam, despite being cold to him in public. And their secret relationship.

"And because of him... why I am deeply hurting" the king confessed.

The prince remain silent.

"The truth is, I didn't intend to use him" the king said, looking at the prince. "But because of politics and he love me, I am forced... to use his sincere love"

Yushin closed his eyes, feeling a slight pain in his heart, hearing his first love admit the love of another man in front of everyone.

"But I see that you feel not a shred of mercy for him" the king said to the prince.

The young man remain silend, while Alcheon took a deep breath in concern.

"Bidam is evil, in the eyes of most people" The king stated. "But I hope you could believe that he is just doing his duty for the great mission."

Then she looked at her nephew. "Can't you accept it?"

"I can accept it" Prince Chunchu said. "But... I can't pity him"

Hearing her nephew's words made her worry.

"Bidam... is the son of the woman who killed my grandfather, my father and my dear mother" he said in sorrow.

The king became silent, because it was indeed true.

"And to his people... Why would I have mercy on them, when they were still Mishil's people?" he ask, pained.

"Chunchu" the king admonished.

"Yes. Bidam might be your loyal servant" he said. "But you can't deny that he is my enemy in politics"

Yushin and Alcheon looked at the prince.

.

.

That afternoon, the royal physician came to visit the king.

"Your highness, I am here to check on your condition" he greeted, respectfully.

The king took a deep breathe. Thinking for how long, she would be able to hide her state, and the repercussion it would inevitably cause to everyone.

Now that her engagement with Bidam is in difficult waters, because of what happened. While her pregnancy is making her illness worsen by the day, but still she wants to keep their child no matter what.

Trying hard to keep her strong facade, just until she could establish a reliable king in her steed, to take care of Shilla.

She has to be strong, not only for her and Shilla, but also for her unborn child. A piece of her and Bidam that was made out of love, that she wished to bring into the world.

While making sure that, even if she's not the king anymore, Shilla will survive and will be able to unite the kingdoms of the three han in the future.

And maybe, she would survive as well, together with her husband and child, even if it means living outside of the capital.

Hoping that Bidam would be able to put his people in place, or else, the opposition will tear up there family.

Soon the physician left. On his way out, he met the head of the Royal Guard, General Alcheon.

"Why is it that you visit the king frequently?" Alcheon asked.

The doctor become uneased. "Because... I am helping the King sleep in the night, because she has difficulty sleeping "

"Is that all?" he asked.

"Yes that's all" the doctor said.

.

.

The next day, the king went to the secret weapons manufacturing facilities, in which Wolya is heading the research team in creating strong weaponry based on Gayans hidden military technology.

The king became impressed, and praised Wolya for his contribution to the advancement of the Shilla's military.

"Thank you for your trust, your highness" Wolya said, bowing at the king. "Now that we are officially Shillan citizens, we would also unveal the Gayans secret weapons, shall we present it to Prince Chunchu?"

"Don't inform him, just yet" the king ordered. Making Alcheon and Wolya surprised. "He is too impatient. What's needed to unite the three Han is strong will and determination. Do you understand?"

"Yes. I understand, your highness" Wolya agreed. "We will thus continue our research and advancement in silence"

"I am grateful that you are on my side, Wolya"

After that, the king visited the agricultural lands she ordered to be further developed to help the farmers and the poor people.

They thanked the king, and wished her a long life.

The king smiled, knowing that her days is probably numbered, but seeing her people in relative peace and progress, made her hope for a better future for them, even after she die.

"Thank you, for your kindness your highness" they said in gratitude, making the King and Alcheon smile.

"Your goodness, your highness is now widely acknowledged even in other places" the minister of agriculture commented in praise.

"Is that it?" the king said, pleased.

.

.

Finally, they returned to the palace.

"I also felt the peace that the people felt because of your kindness, your highness" Alcheon said, smiling at the king, despite walking behind her and she couldn't see.

"General Alcheon" the king suddenly called.

"What is it, your highness?" Alcheon asked, immediately standing beside the king in attention.

"You are the only person who knows all of my actions" the king said seriously. "I let you know everything, because I trust you fully regarding my secrets"

Silence reign for awhile.

"If in case, something bad happens to me" the king said, making Alcheon worried. "You need to decide who is worthy to know those secrets"

"Your highness, why are you speaking like that?" Alcheon ask, concerned. "What is it that might happen to you?"

"No. Nothing" the king denied, unable to look at her trusted guard. "But we are not assured. Many things may happen in our life"

"Is it because you are not feeling well?" he asked, becoming even more worried of her denial.

"Among the Sacred Bone Rank, who else still belongs in that rank?" the king asked, diverting the topic.

Alcheon took a deep breathe. "Only Princess Seungman, aside from you, your highness"

The king pondered. "I noticed that she also has a strong will and determination as a leader"

"It would seem so, your highness, based on her contribution and achievement in her office" Alcheon commented, trying to ease the worry behind his words.

"You, Alcheon" the king suddenly said. "Do you want to become the king?"

"I would not dare, your highness" he answered automatically, after all, she had always asked him about it many times in the past.

"Your late father is a Sacred Bone while your mother is a true bone." the king commented, smiling. Knowing Alcheon's unwavering loyalty to her.

Yushin, Bidam, and Alcheon, her three source of strength and power. Who were also very loyal to her even during her powerless days. And Prince Chunchu, who is her most effective Diplomat.

They were all, capable of becoming a King. But they chose to support her. And thus, she is very grateful.

"Call Yushin and Chunchu" the king ordered at her royal guard.

"Your highness, why don't you rest now?" he protested, worrying about her workaholic tendency.

"Don't worry about me, just call them" the king said smiling, before leaving her guard.

Alcheon could only look at his king in worry.

.

.

Bidam on the otherhand is in search of the secret armies, the aristocrates were hiding to prepare for a huge rebellion. Worried that, things are becoming more out of his hand, but trying his best to squash the king's enemy as silently as possible, so as not to steer the peace and harmony in the country.

In the administrative room, the king presented her plans for the unification of the three kingdoms of han that would stretch even after her reign end. To ensure the survival of Shilla and unifying the kingdoms.

"Do you understand, Yushin and Chunchu?" the king asked, after discussing everything in the book.

"Yes, your highness" they agreed.

The king smiled, hopeful of a better future for Shilla through the works she carefully laid out that would secure the long-term success of Shilla.

.

.

Later, Bidam came to Yushin's office and asked for a thousand soldiers to aid him in his secret mission.

The Head general agreed to lend him, in the condition that Bidam will inform the King as soon as possible.

He smiled at Yushin, before leaving his office.

Outside, he instructed his agents to prepare for an all out attack tomorrow evening.

'Your highness, tomorrow... Everything will end, just as I promised' Bidam thought. 'I will fix this problem. Please, trust in me... Don't ever lose faith in me.'

Tomorrow did come, but it brought along a bad news. The legendary boat that brought gifts from the great founder of Shilla, carry a message that proclaimed Bidam, as the rightful king of Shilla.

Bidam is beyond horrified, knowing what might have happened. It's his peoples' secret workings and subterfuge again, in pushing him to the throne.

The king become mortified, looking at Bidam.

While Prince Chunchu is angered.

Everyone else looked at Bidam in askance, including a shocked Yushin.

.

.

"Because of this, Bidam and Chunchu are pitted against each other regarding the throne" Yushin commented. "Bidam-"

"Bidam" the king admonished her Head general, for even insinuating that Bidam is plotting against her. "Has nothing to do with what happened"

Yushin looked at the king, surprised at her outburst. Alcheon remain silent, understanding.

"If Bidam wants to take the throne, he wouldn't need to do this kind of things" The king stated. "Because instead of benefitting from this event, he is now put in danger"

"You are right" Yushin agreed. "But this situation only proves that he is unable to put his people in order. And thus our officials believed that you-"

"That I should have abandoned, Bidam.?" the king asked. " Is that what they want?"

"Your highness" Yushin called.

"Before making a decision, I carefully considers what's right and wrong" the king stated. "And then they say that I should abandon Bidam? As if... That's a very easy thing to do"

Yushin looked at the king.

"It is by far, more difficult to gain a person's trust than conquering lands in comparison" the king stated "But then, abandoning a loyal subordinate is even more difficult"

Alcheon looked at the king in understanding.

"I know, your highness, and that is why I am still here in front of you" Yushin said. "Because of that principles, you have forgiven and saved me"

"No matter how difficult it is, I would continue to save my people" the king vowed. "I won't immediately gave up on you. I will not abandon anyone. No one is going to be left behind"

Alcheon looked at the king in awe.

.

.

Bidam on the otherhand, furiously confronted his subordinates. For they were increasingly being insolent.

"Didn't I told you to trust me?!" Bidam yelled.

"Why? did you give us enough reason to trust you?" Minister Jujin asked.

"Prime Minister, we did what we did because we want to be with you in our cause" Minister Mesaeng said.

"Why do you think we are following you?" Yumjong asked. "Is it because of trust? Loyalty?.. Or perhaps because of Love?"

"Yumjong, you shut up!" Bidam admonished. "Or perhaps you want to die right now"

The aristocrates sat in front of their superior, trying to convince Bidam to become the king.

"We are following you, because we want to live longer" Minister Peltan stated.

"Whether you like it or not, we are your responsibility" Hajong said.

"And one thing, we have the right to ask you to become the king" Captain Bojong lectured.

Bidam stared at his older step-brothers.

"It is because of us that the King rose in power, but look at us now..." a minister said. "we are going to lose everything"

"This is the time to incriminate the King for the wars and conflicts Shilla suffered" Jujin said. "We are only waiting for your decision"

It is because of a female King, viewed by the other kingdoms as a weak ruler, that the smallest kingdom among the three kingdoms of han is being pushed from all side by the enemies.

The Shilla therefore needs a strong man and ruthless king, like Bidam. That is what the aristocrates and the people believed.

Bidam couldn't contradict them.

Because angering them, isn't a very wise thing to do.

.

.

After the meeting, Bidam exited his office feeling exhausted. Then he remembered the night he vowed to become Deokman's loyal servant.

Flashback}

'Why are you suddenly being formal?` princess Deokman asked.

'I want to serve you. I want to stay by your side, always' he answered before suddenly kneeling. 'I am Bidam, bowing to my king and princess'

{end flashback}

Bidam thus decided to visit his beloved, in her chamber.

"I want to speak with the king" Prime Minister Bidam stated at the guard.

But the guard didn't allow him.

"We are instructed not to allow anyone to visit" he replied.

"Ask for permission" Bidam ordered.

"When General Alcheon come, I will ask" the guard replied fearless. "I won't dare to speak with the king"

"Don't you know me?" Bidam warned. "Ask for permission now!"

Alcheon suddenly arrived.

"I want to speak with the king" Bidam said to Alcheon.

"She doesn't accept any visitors" Alcheon said concerned. "Maybe next time"

"If the King asked me to leave, I will immediately go" Bidam said sincerely. "So please"

.

.

"Bidam" the king called. "I know that you don't have any hidden bad intentions"

Bidam looked at his beloved. "Your highness"

"But your people are different." the king stated. "They were afraid of what might happen, when I am gone"

Bidam remain silent.

"And so, the issue about the next king is hanging" she said.

Bidam became uneasy.

"But then... They are Chunchu's enemies in politics" the king stated. "Unlike Gaya. It is difficult for Chunchu to accept their power"

Bidam looked at the king.

"And for them. Hope is in your hand" she said looking at Bidam. "If you are unable to stop them-"

Bidam immediately kneeled in front of his beloved, seeing as she look ill, clutching her chest.

"Your highness, what is happening to you?" Bidam asked, worried.

The king felt weaken and unable to breathe.

"Your highness, I will call the doctor" Bidam said, about to leave but the king held his hand.

Bidam looked at her hand, holding his hand.

"No need" she said, barely catching her breathe.

"What is happening to you?" Bidam asked his beloved tenderly. "Are you feeling ill?"

"I am fine" she said, looking at Bidam's worried face. "I was just tired"

.

.

A few days later, Prince Chunchu was badly injured in an attack in the middle of investigating the ship of Ashuka, the legendary ship that came bearing the news that Bidam should become the king.

The king became angered, saying that she would make the people behind the Prince's assassination pay.

Making even Chunchu surprised.

"This is the end of my patience" the king declared.

On the other hand, Bidam became fearful. It seems like his people did an incredibly foolish move again. And this time, the consequences would be huge on him. The people will surely believe that he was the one behind the incident.

.

.

"At the council meeting, tell Bidam that I ordered him not to attend" the king instructed Alcheon. "After the meeting, take Bidam secretly to me"

At the meeting, the king announced that she will punish the perpetrators behind the prince assassination.

Asking Minister Yungchun to lead the investigation.

.

.

On the other hand, Prince Chunchu learned that Bidam didn't attend the meeting.

"Do you think that he is behind your assassination attempt?" adviser Jukbang asked.

"Whether he is behind it or not. It is not important" Prince Chunchu said. "Soon, the heavens will test the King and Bidam's relationship"

"What?... I think there is something you were planning to do" Jukbang commented worriedly.

"I need to speak with Bidam" Prince Chunchu said with malicious intent. "I am going to push the heavens will, slightly"

.

.

"Thankfully you survived" Bidam said in concern. "That should have not happen"

"Do you mean that it isn't you, behind what happened?" Chunchu asked in disbelief.

Bidam smiled. "I will not do such a thing. Even in dreams, I will never hurt you"

Chunchu smiled. "Can we please, speak like before?"

Bidam remain silent.

"You promised to resign from your position and leave power, when the King dies" he said. "I think you won't be able to do it."

"You know... I don't understand you" Bidam said, feeling suspecious. "What do you mean Chunchu?"

"My mother died, because of your mother" he said in anger. "And now the son, wanted to kill me. Do you think that I would remain silent and then die?"

Bidam smiled. "I don't really understand you, what you are talking about Chunchu"

"The truth is, I am hiding a secret" he said. "Do you want to know?"

Bidam remain silent.

"My mind is fast but my body is weak" he admitted. "Naturally, people would think that I am stupid, slow and gullible. But you know, for me... Even a small matter and happened a long time ago, I don't let it go easily"

Bidam stayed silent, analyzing the poker faced prince in front of him.

"What do you think happened to Denambo?" he asked. "Why he suddenly lost?"

Prince Chunchu rose from his seat and was about to leave.

"Yo" Bidam called, feeling challenged. "You are a man now, aren't you"

Chunchu remain silent, looking at Bidam.

"Before... Just seeing me, makes your entire body tremble in fear" Bidam reminded. "Isn't it?"

"Yes. Because you were truly terrifying" he admitted. "But not now"

"Do you know why?" he asked taunting. "Because before , your ways of thinking and actions were unreadable and unpredictable. The ones we can't understand is the most terrifying of all"

"But now it's different" he added. "I can now, read your mind"

Bidam smirked.

"You are unable to stop your subordinates, and you don't see what's in front of you because you are blinded by love!" he lectured the prime Minister and former teacher.

"Think. Do you really believe that the king loves you, that's why she's marrying you?!" he asked smiling, piercing Bidam's insecurity to the core.

"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk" Prince Chunchu taunted. "Back then, you were a very terrifying creature"

Bidam felt shaken.

Outside Bidam's residence, Chunchu contemplated.

'I am sorry Bidam' he thought. 'I know that you have nothing to do with what happened. And I know that you honestly love my aunt. But then... You and your people are a hindrance to our great dream. You need to disappear!'

"Prince Chunchu? Jukbang asked, worried." Is there any problem? "

"Nothing. Let's go" he said.

'Bidam, I am saddened for you' he thought. 'But people like you who let their emotions take control of their actions... Will never have a place in history'

.

.

Alcheon accompanied Bidam to the King, who has been patiently waiting for her husband.

Bidam tried to shake off the feeling left by Chunchu's words.

'Think. Do you really believe that the king loves you, that's why she's marrying you?!'

"No" Bidam said to himself, denying the possibility that his beloved does not love him back, and that she has been using his feelings for her, against him.

Looking at Deokman, staring at him from afar, he couldn't help but smile despite the pain.

Bidam went near his beloved, accepting his fate. He just love her so much, and even if she doesn't love him back. It is still okay, as long as she's near.

"It is clear to me that you have nothing to do with what happened" the king stated.

Bidam looked at his beloved in surprise. For he honestly believed that it is the end for him and their relationship.

"Your highness -" Bidam started to say.

"But then you failed" the king admonished. "you were unable to stop your subordinates"

"You are right, your highness" Bidam said. "And so you must do what you have to do. Investigate them, so that the truth should be revealed. And punish them based on our law"

"If I do that, then you will be involved" the king said, worried. "You can't avoid it. You will be charged for their crimes"

"I know. But it's not important" Bidam said, making Deokman look at him in concern. "Because that's what you have to do"

"Your highness, whatever happens. I am ready to face any consequences-" Bidam declared.

"I can't!" Deokman admonished making Bidam look at her eyes. "I can't accept that"

"Your highness" Bidam said staring in his beloved's beautiful face.

The king suddenly revealed the couple ring in her hand.

"Not once, did we gave anything to each other" she said, looking at her beloved.

"Why are you saying that to me?" Bidam asked. "Why do I feel like you want me to leave?"

The king is unable to look at Bidam.

"I am going to assign you to Chuwa, to manage the construction of a new fortress there. You must leave immediately" the king instructed. "Don't worry, when everything is settled, I will send you back to the palace"

"Your highness" Bidam felt like it's difficult to breathe. For he can take any punishment or loss of power and position. But being away from Deokman... He wouldn't be able to bear not being near her.

The king held Bidam's hand and put the ring on her husband's hand. Though she wanted to tell him about her pregnancy, but she held out, knowing that he will never leave if he knew.

"If you remain here, you will surely get involved" she said looking at his concerned eyes. "I don't want that to happen. And so, I am sending you away"

Looking at their hand, Bidam then stared at his beloved's eyes.

"While you're gone, I will finish everything" she said, trying to be firm. "People will talk about it, but soon, it will fade away. When everything is fine, trust that I will send you back"

Bidam remembered Chunchu's words again.

'Think. Do you really believe that the king loves you, that's why she's marrying you?!'

Looking at his beloved, in silence.

"Bidam. Trust me" she said staring at his eyes, clouded with doubt.

Bidam shook his head, to dispell the doubts. Because once again he knew, he love Deokman so much, and even if she is just using him.. Even if she doesn't love him... It's still ok.

"Your highness..." Bidam said, smiling in pain. "Even if you wouldn't say it, I trust you wholeheartedly"

"Prepare to leave immediately, and I shall arrange your documents" the king said, holding Bidam's hand with both her hands.

But as soon as she was about to remove her hands, Bidam held her hand tightly, like a child who feared to let go.

Deokman looked at her beloved's pained expression.

Bidam felt like pleading for Deokman to never let go.

Deokman smiled at Bidam, hiding her pain with their separation.

Bidam smiled in pain, barely hiding his fear of being left behind.

But the king removed her hand from his grasp, making Bidam felt like he is about to lose everything.

"Leave" she said, unable to look at her beloved.

Bidam stared at the ring and held it tightly in his hand.

He then left, feeling like all energy was drained from his body. Taking a glimpse at his beloved.

Deokman felt like it's difficult to breathe, looking at her husband walking away.

Bidam remembered the way her hand left his grasp. And it felt like, it would be the last time he would ever hold her hand again.

'No. It's all in my mind' he thought. 'What she said is truthful'

Deokman looked at Bidam's retreating form.

'You need to leave first. I promise to you. I will straighten everything' she vowed.

.

.

"How about Bidam?" Prince Chunchu asked angrily. "Why didn't you order to capture him?!"

"More than anyone, you know that Bidam has nothing to do with what his subordinates did" the king admonished.

"Your highness, his people became insolent because of him" he argued. "Without him, nothing like this would happen"

"And now?" she asked.

"Bidam needs to disappear" he pointed out. "Because if not, he would be dangerous in the future"

"Are you afraid of him? Is that it?" she asked.

Chunchu looked at his aunt, knowing that the king spoke with Bidam secretly. And that she is hiding her real condition, that she is pregnant with Bidam's child. And with her failing health, it's only going to be inevitable that Bidam will finally become the King.

A fact he just realized, the moment he went to visit his aunt that afternoon in her chamber, and instead he met the king's personal doctor.

"He is about to lose all his power" the king admonished her impatient nephew. "How will he become a threat?"

The prince looked at his aunt in hidden anger, trying hard not to let her know that he already knew her secret.

"And just because of your fear, you will kill an innocent person?!" she asked angered. "Don't touch him, until I order"

The prince boiled in anger.

.

.

Later that night, Deokman visited Bidam in their secret chamber, where he has been waiting just like she suspected. Secretly, she was grateful that he was there, because she herself wished to be with him before he leave tomorrow.

Bidam immediately run towards his woman in haste and hugged her so tightly.

"Bidam" Deokman breathe as soon as her heart calmed down, in his arms.

The entire night, the couple spent their hours silently bidding farewell to each other. Letting their actions speak rather than words.

Bidam held Deokman's body tightly under the covers, while she hugged him and laid down her head in his chest. Feeling each others warmth and comfort.

"Bidam" Deokman whispered, looking at the ring she gave him this afternoon. "wait for me there in Chuwa"

Bidam remain silent, holding Deokman tightly instead.

"I am going to surrender the throne, after I finish fixing this problem" she said, smiling up at Bidam's surprised face. "I want to spend my remaining life with you"

A tear fell from Bidam's eyes, looking at Deokman's lovely face.

He couldn't believe that, she will give up everything for him as well. Kissing her tenderly, with all the love he has for her that is bigger than the world.

Wanting so much to call her by her name.

Deokman.

.

.

"Prime Minister? " the manservant asked from behind the door of Bidam's home office." Everything has been prepared.

'I will fix everything here in Seorobol'

Bidam remembered Deokman's words.

'Can I bare to actually leave you alone to deal with everything, your highness?' he thought to himself. 'It shouldn't be only you, I too must shoulder those problems. It's only right that even for a little bit, I should pay for the worries I caused you, your highness. And when I finish doing that, I will wait for you in Chuwa, just like you ordered'

Bidam thus took his prized old companion, his killing sword.

'I am terrifying back then? ' he asked himself in answer to Chunchu's words. 'But I am still that monster you all feared'

Bidam smirked.

'I am going to kill every single one of you' he vowed with his sword shining with thirst for blood.

.

.

"So have you decided to help me, Yushin?" Prince Chunchu asked. "If you chose to aid my plans, I can see to it that the Gaya people will be the forefront in my campaign to unite the 3 kingdoms. They will have a secure standing in my reign, but if you chose Bidam. We both know that the kingdom will fall to its ruins and will sees to exist due to the internal conflicts. His inability to keep the reigns over his people is a proof that his incapable of leading the kingdom"

"Prince Chunchu. How can you say that, when the King still has control over the court?" Yushin asked his brother-in-law.

"The king... She is pregnant" he answered.

"How... could that be?" Yushin asked in surprise.

"She is just a few months on her labor, and it's taking a toll on her already weakened health. If the King still refused to name her heir, the Prime Minister will end up becong the ruler of this Kingdom" Prince Chunchu explained.

Yushin felt like a shackle held him hostage.

It's just a month since the King announced her decree to marry Bidam and now that their engagement was getting called off... . But if this news gets out... Then the annals of history would record her reign in a bad light. All her achievements will be dismissed by such intrigue.

He closed his eyes.

And made a decision.

.

.

But just as he was to annihilate every single one of the nobles that dared to betray the King, a news came to him. That General Yushin surrounded the King's palace. They were having a secret coup to usurp the throne.

Bidam couldn't believe what he heard.

"Chunchu. You punk" He uttered in disdain.

.

.

"Yushin" the king called out, as the commotion outside of her palace continues. "What is happening?"

"Your highness" Yushin said, looking at her with guilt and remorse for what he was about to do. But it's for her sake and the kingdom. For the sake of the dreams of the kings of shilla.

"Tell me. What is happening? " the king asked.

"Bidam... Bidam launched a rebellion" he said.

Hearing this shocked the king, unconsciously touching her womb were their unborn son lays. "This can't be. Bidam is in Chuwa" she reasoned.

"Bidam, never arrived in the Chuwa district" Yushin said.

"Where is he? Where is Bidam?... I need to see him!" she commanded.

.

.

But days passed and Bidam never arrived at the palace. The King was bedridden as her health completely deteriorated.

"Your highness, you should name your heir for the stability of the kingdom" Prince Chunchu urged his aunt.

"Chunchu... I need to see Bidam" she begged as her breath become shallow.

"He has betrayed you, his King." he pointed out.

The king turned away from the prince. Her tears fell as she realize that the child inside her womb has stopped moving for some time.

"Call Princess Jindeok" she ordered.

As soon as everyone left, the king spoke with Yushin again.

"Yushin. I need to see Bidam. Our child, must not die" she cried. "I beg you"

"For once, I wanted to live the life I have always longed for. To be loved by my husband and children. To live an ordinary life. I am dying. I need him. I need, Bidam" she confessed.

Yushin was utterly surprised by the king's words. For it's been so long since he saw this side of her. Remembering those days when it was supposed to be him, who should have run away with her to live as a couple and have children of their own.

Seeing her tears over her dying unborn child in her womb, Yushin felt empathy for the king he was supposed to be protecting from Bidam and the rebellion, because it seems like it was actually him and Chunchu who were crushing her heart to pieces. Killing her.

.

.

The king then, suddenly announced that she will die soon and that she wished to be buried in the place near Doricheon (Heaven of Grieved Merits), which was in Nangsan. Making her attendants mourn her frightening prediction.

Later the attendant announced Princess Seungman's arrival.

"Your highness, I am here" the princess greeted.

"Jindeok... You will be my heir" the King declared, making Prince Chunchu unable to breathe.

"Take care of our kingdom. And fulfill the dream of the Kings of shilla" she said, as she breathe her last.

.

.

Hearing that the King died, Bidam marched to the capital personally. Killing anyone who gets in his way.

He was confronted by Yushin and Alcheon's armies, with the new crown princess, Princess Jindeok.

How could you do this, Yushin?" Bidam exclaimed as he fought the general, while the shrine were Prince Chunchu was praying, burned to the ground.

"Bidam" Yushin started to say. "Do you wish to be the King?" he asked.

" Don't play with me, Yushin. Were is Deokman?" he asked angrily. "If you hurt her even for a bit. I will kill you" he warned.

"I will never hurt the King" Yushin answered truthfully.

"Then were is she?!" he asked as they fought fiercely. " Did she really died?"

"No" he answered. "so tell me, do you wish to become the King? "

"I don't" Bidam answered.

Hearing his sincere answer. Yushin dropped his sword. "Then go to nangsan, she and your unborn child were being treated by Wulchon"

Bidam ceased all action the moment the general mentioned about his wife and child.

"Go and die. This much, is what I can do" Yushin said. "from now on, you and Deokman were dead in the annals of history"

"Yu-shin..." Bidam uttered as he finally dropped his sword. "Thank you" he said as he run away from the burning temple, towards the heel were nangsan is.

"Deokman" he called out.

.

.

Bidam found Deokman wearing an ordinary clothing, with a beautiful smile, that he had longed to see once more.

"I want to spend the rest of my life with you and our child" she said.

Hearing that, Bidam fell to the ground as tears washed all his fears away.

"Thank you. Thank you for being alive" he said.

.

.

"Bidam, Why did you believe that marrying me is better than the dreams of the Kings of shilla? " an elderly Deokman asked her husband, out of the blue.

Bidam smiled with old age.

"I maybe very selfish at that time" he admitted. "for me, uniting the three kingdoms wouldn't be as fulfilling and memorable of a life, because it would mean that I have to kill as many people as I could, and living an unhappy life without you, the only good thing in my lonely and meaningless world"

Deokman remain silent.

"I was born to help Mishil become the Queen, but I ended up being useless to her, and so she abandoned me. Munno raised me to become the king of history, but instead I misunderstood his teachings and killed tens of people when I was just 8 years old. That event caused everything he dreamed for me to crumble. My life then became a meaningless existence without a path to follow" he narrated.

"I kill people easily, if offended and that I don't share my possessions to anyone. I was greedy and possessive. And so, I was extremely lonely" he admitted.

"I lie to myself most of the time, and I blame the world for what happened to me" he added. "They made me who I am. And I was intent of giving them the disaster and chaos they molded me in"

"But then I met you" Bidam said, recalling the very distant past. "You were more pitiful than me. Weak and powerless. And yet you have this grandiose dream of flipping the world on its head, to become the king of Shilla and unite the three kingdoms of han. I then joined you for the thrill and adventure. I am really curious back then, how you will achieve your impossible dream"

Deokman smiled, remembering the past as well.

"Then you proved to everyone that you are capable of doing great things, despite being a female and less powerful than Mishil. I began to admire you for your internal strength and intelligence. You were unlike any woman I met. Except for my mother, no one can match your leadership skills. I pledge to serve you, because I really want to stay by your side always. "he narrated.

"You don't know how much light and happiness you brought into my dark and empty world. You made me feel like I am a good person as well despite my evil thoughts. You praised me, instead of judging. You try to understand me, instead of criticizing. You thanked me, when no one did" he recounted.

"For me, you are the world... the Sun and the Moon in my night sky" Bidam confessed hugging his wife. "and now, you brought along the stars and constellations. I am so glad to have been born, for the first time in my life"

Deokman was in tears. For she is very glad as well. To have met Bidam.

"I love you, Bidam" she whispered as the last tear fell from her eyes.

Bidam cried silently, knowing that his beloved has finally breathe her last. Though being drawn to close his eyes, he had fought not to lose consciousness before Deokman. Not wanting for her to mourn his death, at all cost.

Later the siblings found their parents dead in their bedroom, hugging each other. Tears fell from their eyes.

And later as per their parent's last wish, the couple were buried in the peony garden, their father Bidam created for their mother Deokman.

The end.
