Hi everyone! My name is PrimroseRaspberry, and welcome to my latest fanfic (and the first one I've written that's rated T). Before I submit the first chapter, however, there's something else you should know: this story is technically a crossover with a cartoon show called "My Big Big Friend," and I couldn't mark it as a crossover because there isn't a category for the show on this site.
Also, since a few characters from the show will be among the protagonists in the story you're about to read, I feel like it's only fair if I provide a description of their personalities, the show's plot, and stuff before submitting Chapter 1. That way, in case you haven't watched the show, you can have more of a familiarity with it when you read this fanfic. If you want to, I mean. You can also watch the series on YouTube if that helps as well; most of the Season 1 episodes are available there.
WHAT THE SHOW IS ABOUT
So, the show is about 3 human children (Matt, Yuri, and Lili) who are friends. They live in the same neighbourhood, go to the same school, and are in the same class. But there's something about these children that nobody else knows—not even their families, teacher, or classmates: each of the 3 kids has a special talking animal friend (aka a big big friend) that lives with them, comforts them when necessary, and plays with them. These 3 animals (Bongo, Golias, and Nessa) are all very nice, but they can only be seen and heard by each other and Matt, Yuri, and Lili.
Throughout the series, one, two, or even all of the kids will do something wrong, which can usually alienate them from each other. When this happens, the kids and their big big friends (or just one of each, depending on the situation) soon end up going on an extraordinary adventure together, in which the layout of the scenery around them suddenly changes (for example, a playground could suddenly turn into a desert or a bunch of toys they played with could suddenly come to life). It always ends with the kids learning their lessons and making things right with each other, with no one other than the six friends being aware of what just happened. People sometimes say the adventures were imaginary, but clearly they weren't for the following reasons:
1. Sometimes the adventures are intended, since there are episodes when a kid decides they want to "go somewhere" right before the scenery around them changes. But sometimes, the adventures or specific elements of the adventures happen when no one expects it. Either way, the kids and their big big friends are okay with the adventures nonetheless.
2. One time when Lili and Nessa ended up in a desert, Lili got seriously dehydrated at one point; something that was obviously very hard on her. Because of this, Nessa (who was unaffected by the heat due to her being a giraffe) had to carry her from one area to another and even stand in specific areas just so her shadow would keep Lili from getting too hot.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
YURI
A 5-year-old boy with black hair in the shape of a mushroom's top. He is shy, sweet, artistic, and friendly, but can be a little selfish and jealous at times, alienating him from most of his friends—this was proven when he tried to keep his special snack to himself despite most of his friends also wanting a bite in the episode "Brickle Pickle," and when he was upset that his grandma gave Matt and Lili the positive attention usually reserved just for him in "Something Special." Yuri even tends to over-exaggerate various scenarios when he gets upset, especially if his negativity was caused by something not going his way, and it usually takes a lot of persuasion (usually from Golias) to make him realize he needs to calm down and be more fair to himself or others. Yuri can also be very sensitive, but due to his embarrassment about this part of him, he usually tries not to get emotional in front of his friends and will only talk to Golias about why he's upset. Yuri lives with both of his parents and is an only child.
GOLIAS
A big blue elephant who lives with and spends the most time with Yuri, but only he, Matt, Lili, Bongo, and Nessa are aware of his existence because only they can see and hear him. Golias has very unique taste buds compared to most of his friends, since he was the only one who didn't want to eat Yuri's snack in "Brickle Pickle," and he was shown to like roots and peanuts (which the others most likely found gross) in a few other episodes. He likes doing funny things, making his trunk toot, and comforting Yuri, and during "Holding It In," it's shown that he likes these things to the point where he gets very emotional and sad at the very thought of never being able to do those things again (at least with Yuri, which emphasizes the strong family-like bond the duo share).
Despite having no hands, Golias is able to pick things up with his trunk and tail, and he can also use his ears to embrace others. He is even shown to have a very strong fondness for the beach, since he got excited and even a little hyper just by thinking about the beach in "Fort Messy." He's very good at throwing his voice, which he did while playing with puppets in "Something Special," and he is apparently very heavy, since he was once able to sink a boat despite himself being its only passenger, and another time, it took Yuri, Lili, Nessa, and Bongo's combined weight to make his side of the seesaw finally go upward.
Golias's family-like bond with Yuri is also shown in other scenarios, since he's always the only one who still remains by his side after the rest of their friends leave, annoyed with Yuri's selfishness. Plus, whenever Yuri gets upset, Golias either uses his soft and gentle side to comfort him or shows his playful and funny side by making music with his trunk, playing with a puppet, or imitating various construction vehicles in an obvious attempt to make him laugh (though these attempts aren't always successful). He also displays the humorous part of his personality when he gets nervous and even does his best to act suave in a childish way once his nerves calm down (something that secretly charms Nessa). Golias usually gets visibly depressed and droopy when his friends (particularly Yuri) leave him out of fun games, but he never admits it unless Yuri goes to comfort him, likely just so his friends will remain happy. This also shows that Golias is exceptionally faithful to all of his friends, to the point where despite having the ability to express his own opinions and put his own needs first, he has been known to sacrifice his wellbeing (both emotionally and physically) to help Yuri and the rest of the gang multiple times.
MATT
A 7-year-old boy with spiky auburn hair who is very athletic, proud, determined, and optimistic. He likes candy, meatloaf, playing sports, racing, and trying new things (except when it involves spinach, his least favourite food that he finds extremely disgusting), but he can sometimes be very stubborn on what game he wants to play, or how he wants various things to be done. He also has a slight mischievous side that is often instigated by Bongo, but Matt is usually able to resist temptations to make mischief because he doesn't want to upset his friends. Unlike Yuri and Lili, Matt is shown to be more considerate of and have an easier time agreeing with others' opinions, and when he makes a mistake, he will realize it and willingly accept it much quicker. However, Matt also has moments where he would rather live by his own desires, which sometimes is a good influence on others and sometimes upsets his friends.
In the episode "Brickle Pickle," it's shown Matt can find himself in a "stuck in the middle" situation when Yuri and Lili are angry at each other, similarly to the latter two's big big friends—yet with Matt, it's even harder to choose between Yuri and Lili than it is for Golias and Nessa (for them it's basically a no-brainer because Golias always stands by Yuri while Nessa always stands by Lili), since it's easier for him to switch sides every time those two get into a fight. There are also a few occasions when Matt is shown to be a little too agreeable with Bongo's opinions, since he will do anything to please him, even if it means giving in to the temptations brought on by his mischievous side, as seen in "I Didn't Think Of That." However, by resisting those temptations, he can sometimes find another way to please Bongo, or ultimately forbid him from dragging them both into a bad situation. Matt lives with both of his parents and his older sister (whom he is frequently aggravated by on purpose).
BONGO
A green kangaroo with a tuft of spiky auburn hair (similar to Matt's hair) on his head, and who has several pouches on his body, despite him being a male. He lives with and spends the most time with Matt, but only he, Yuri, Lili, Golias, and Nessa are aware of his existence because only they can see and hear him. Similarly to Golias, Bongo apparently has very unique taste buds, since he claims in "Hippo-licious" that he likes eating scrambled eggs and even rotten apples (despite Matt being grossed out just by the thought of it). Bongo also loves bouncing, playing with Matt's toy crane, and eating sweet treats (especially red liquorice, his favourite kind of candy).
Bongo is just as athletic and game-loving as Matt, but unlike him and the rest of their friends, he is hyperactive and will do anything for attention, even if it's something he was already warned not to do. His hyperactivity can easily make him get into mischief, which usually triggers Matt's mischievous side too as seen in "I Didn't Think Of That." Bongo is exceptionally faithful to Matt as well, since he sometimes asks him for input before doing something, and in "King Of The Monkeys," when Matt had to sit out of a fun game due to his leg being broken, he sat out too despite obviously feeling sad about it and having no injuries himself. However, Bongo has also been shown to fearlessly follow his own opinions on a daily basis (mainly because of his high energy levels and awareness that his mischief can have negative consequences he never meant for), and he will always genuinely apologize to people he unintentionally impacted by his mischief. Despite his hyperactivity and mischievousness, Bongo is shown to be very resourceful, and able to give wise, kind, and encouraging advice he thought up himself to everyone when it's needed, with pleasant results.
LILI
A 6-year-old girl with glasses and black curly hair done up in 2 fluffy pigtails, each held in place by a pink ribbon tied into a bow. She is kind and caring, but has a habit of getting overly bossy, demanding, selfish, and braggy towards her friends—something that usually alienates her from most of them. She easily gets upset when things don't go her way, is very determined to keep holding a grudge against her friends whenever she gets into fights with them, and when it's just one of her friends that she's at odds with, she constantly orders the rest of her friends to stay mad as well—this was especially shown in "Brickle Pickle," when she basically forced a doubtful, worried, and reluctant Matt to be her right-hand man after a fight with Yuri, and after Nessa tried to gently help them reconcile. Lili even takes advice from her mom too seriously, to the point where she uses it as an excuse to make her friends do as she says. She also has a tendency to act like a know-it-all at times, particularly when it comes to proper etiquette (sometimes even sounding snobbish when she does this), and do whatever it takes to seem perfect and fun to be with in front of her male friends (since unlike Nessa, they don't know what her home life is like). Whenever she makes an embarrassing mistake or one of the boys seems to be impressing their friends more than her, she'll either deny it or awkwardly place the blame on Nessa, to the latter's chagrin.
Unlike the relationships between Matt and Bongo & Yuri and Golias, which are much more affectionate and rarely experience any obstacles, the relationship between Lili and Nessa is more…different; despite treating each other nicely and lovingly for the most part, Lili seems to be convinced that she is always the boss and her big big friend is always her assistant. Nessa admires Lili and is always happy to do as she says and support her, but there are a few occasions where the giraffe seems to secretly doubt she really wants to do so. Despite her bad qualities, however, Lili can be a very good leader when the situation calls for it, and her stubbornness can sometimes solve problems rather than cause them. She genuinely cares about her friends' well-being and vice versa, and will get worried when something bad happens to them. Lili even apparently dislikes getting separated from her friends (though she doesn't often admit it, especially when they left because they were mad at her), which was especially shown in "No Kid Is An Island." Lili has 3 baby triplet brothers, all of whom she loves very much. She frequently imitates the many different ways her brothers cry and points out the reasons why they cry those particular ways, usually with Nessa doing these things with her.
NESSA
A pink giraffe with primrose spots and hooves, round glasses with sky blue lenses, and a little pink bow on each of her horns (not on her ears as I said last time; that was a mild mistake I made, which I apologize for). She lives with and spends the most time with Lili, but only she, Yuri, Matt, Golias, and Bongo are aware of her existence because only they can see and hear her. Nessa is very cheerful, friendly, optimistic, easily excitable, and caring towards her friends, and whenever Matt, Yuri, and Lili get into fights, she tries to gently calm things down, even if her attempts to do so usually fail. She frequently skips instead of walking when she's happy, and sometimes it's shown that the back of her neck is extremely ticklish, since she laughs hysterically every time smooth material (like Matt's clothes and Yuri's brickle bar) slides down it. Nessa will occasionally kindly remind her friends to use proper etiquette (similarly to Effie Trinket, but in a much gentler and excited manner and to smaller extents than her), and she is also shown to be a very good actress, since she was able to imitate two different versions of Lili's baby brothers crying during "Holding It In," and in "Brickle Pickle," she not only imitated the babies' crying again, but also managed to add a more screechy tone to it, which made Matt, Lili, and Bongo cover their ears. Nessa can even spin her neck around in circles at a tremendous speed while feeling no pain in the process, similarly to a horizontally-positioned rope tied to a short pole positioned vertically, which allows her to throw things she carries in her mouth very very far.
In a few episodes, it's hinted that Nessa has a crush on Golias, since she is sometimes shown to be (but doesn't admit it) charmed by his goofy and childishly suave behaviour, and she even kissed his forehead in "No Kid Is An Island." However, whether Golias feels the same way or just likes her as a friend is currently unclear. Despite not particularly interacting with Bongo very much, Nessa is sometimes seen looking at him in concern or annoyance when Yuri acts in a way he shouldn't be—something Bongo does with her at the same time. She is also shown to have a very strong family-like bond with Lili, since she admires her, gladly supports her in many things she wants to do, enjoys receiving hugs from her, sometimes repeats good points Lili makes, and got extremely miserable, droopy, and anxious when Lili requested time away from everyone including her in "No Kid Is An Island." However, Nessa's happy-go-lucky personality causes her to tolerate Lili's bossy and selfish behaviour way too much, to the point where she somehow still remains cheery and positive (more or less) after even she herself is bullied by Lili (which she never calls her out on, instead choosing to silently wait and hope the situation will get better). Nessa always tries to find something positive and friendly to say when Lili gives a rude comment, especially after the boys have gotten annoyed with Lili's rudeness and left them, although sometimes, a few of Nessa's facial expressions imply that despite her wanting to be a good friend and stay with Lili so she won't be alone, a part of her wants to leave the girl and join the boys instead.
Nessa can, however, admit it when she honestly doubts the truth and integrity of some of Lili's statements, and she can even reveal a more verbally disciplinary side of herself and take charge of a situation when it's absolutely necessary—this was proven at the end of "Time Out," when she finally decided to stand up to Lili and put her in a time out area, despite being visibly nervous about the bold move she was making. She revealed her tough side again in "No Kid Is An Island," since despite initially being anxious and sad about Lili's departure, she was eventually pushed to her limits after Matt and Yuri's rescue plans kept failing. Nessa then displayed very strong and even fierce leadership skills that immediately succeeded in getting the boys to cooperate, with Yuri even commenting that she "sounded a lot like Lili."
Well, that's it for the descriptions. I hope you all liked them, and that you're looking forward to reading the first chapter of this fanfic (it'll be on the very next page). See you there!
