Unrequited
A/N: Sorry guys, I'm at a bit of a writer's block with Frozen… so here's a one-shot for you. Please don't murder me for ruining the Lily/James love!
She sits, scrubbing cauldrons in the far back of the classroom, humming to herself. She's almost through with her detention. I torment her in class, of course, because she'll sit in the back and look so much like Her. One would mistake Ginevra Weasley for Her if you didn't look at her eyes. She talks quietly to that Colin boy, always smiling and giggling every now and again, and hardly ever glances at the board. She's a gifted student, Ginny. She just reminds me so much of Her, I couldn't dare be nice to her.
I haven't spoken her name in nearly 15 years. I prefer it that way.
She's the whole reason I became a Death Eater.
I had been holding her close that night as she sobbed into my robes, not telling me what was wrong. She pulled back and wiped her eyes with her hands before long, and I saw the ring on her hand.
Trying to keep my voice from betraying my emotions, I slowly asked her, "What's that?"
"I love him," she whispered.
I backed away, turned on my heel, and fled for the dungeons as she cried out after me.
I don't know how long I sat in the dungeons, nor do I know how I got back up to my dormitory. I do know that I never saw her again until the night she died.
I walked into the house that night, and the first body I saw belonged to James. His face was twisted into a grimace, and I found some part of me hoping that Voldemort had used the Cruciatus Curse against him before he eventually killed him.
I walked into the next room and found Her… found Lily lying on the floor with her hands over her heart, a smile on her face. I sank to the floor next to her, laid my head on her belly and sobbed like a little boy. I spilled all my feelings to her, entirely too late… if I had done so the night I found out about Him, I suppose it may have changed things. Instead, here she was, lying on the floor, lifeless… and all I could do about it was sob and cling to her body, whispering over and over… "I love you Lily…"
