ATP: Why do you think? It's not in Daenerys' nature or his nature to share like that.
RoboBrain: Remember, Robb lost an uncle and a grandfather to the mad king's madness. He worries Jon might go that way too.
Andromedanea: He dropped Theon off with Aemon because he did not trust any other Maester than Aemon to look after him. He wasn't doing it to force Theon to join the night's watch.
Robb entered the courtyard to find his brother dismounting the dragon. It still amazed him how large Rhaegal was, and yet he wasn't fully grown at all. Balerion the black dread was said to be so much larger: large enough to eat a mammoth whole. Would Rhaegal get that big?
His brother walked to him with a smile. It would appear he had good news.
"Your grace."
"Your grace."
Jaeheron looked slightly amused. "Robb..."
"JON!"
Jaeheron turned just in time to see Arya barrel into him. Despite her size, she nearly knocked him over.
"Arya!"
"Couldn't you have waited a few days?"
"Waited? For what?"
"For me to get here. You took off to fight on a dragon and you didn't bring me with you!"
Jaeheron laughed. "I didn't know you were so close."
Arya laughed with him and hugged him again. "I missed you, brother."
Jaeheron looked a little uneasy. "Ayra..."
"I know. I don't care. You could be a full blown Targaryen and it would not matter. You're my brother."
Jaeheron looked at Robb, who smiled at him. "You didn't think I wouldn't say anything. I had to tell her."
"I know."
"Jon, can you take me for a ride? You know how much..."
"Later Arya" Robb interrupted. "Brother, come with me. I need to speak with you, in private."
Robb and Jaeheron rode out on horses. Gray Wind and Rhaegal were with them, which put an end to any objections from Robb's bannermen about taking guards with them. After going a few miles downriver, they stopped and set up a small camp. Robb had no idea how long this would take.
Once they were set up, Jaeheron addressed Robb. "So, what is this about?"
"Jae... Jon. I need to know what happened to you."
"What do you mean?"
"You are not the same brother I remember. I know you changed, but your actions are not what someone raised in our house would do."
"What actions" Jaeheron asked, sounding slightly upset.
"The Karstark men returned the day after you left. They told the whole army what you did."
"Lord Karstark deserted you. Why would you care?"
"It not that. I couldn't care less about what you did to the lord who deserted me. He knew what his father did and his desertion was treason. Its how you did it."
"Oh, that" Jaeheron said.
"Yes, that. Have you forgotten what happened to our grandfather at the hands of the mad king?"
"My other grandfather... wait! You think I'm going down that path!"
"Well, what am I supposed to think?! Sicking a dragon on someone is not what was taught to us growing up. Father taught us to be merciful when we put someone to death, not torture them."
"I'm not a Stark, Robb! I never was! I'm a Targaryen, and I intend to act like a Targaryen! If that means using excessive force, what difference does it make?!"
"The difference is whether I am bending to another tyrant or a just ruler!"
"Bending! I told you, I don't want that damn throne!"
"You may not have a choice! The North has shattered Tywin's hold on Westeros! You think I want to rule the continent?! You think the rest of the people in the other kingdos will bend to anything other than a dragon now that you and Rhaegal are here?!"
"I don't care! Westeros' people are greedy, worthless wastes of effort! I saw that first hand!"
Robb was momentarily stunned. "Jon, what happened to you? What happened to Daenerys?"
His brother widened his eyes. "Bran told you, didn't he?!"
"No, he refused to do so. But its clear you are hiding something. Its also clear it concerns your beloved aunt. Don't deny it, its clear you loved her. What happened?!"
Tears started to form in Jon's eyes. He was silent for a moment, before answering. "I killed her."
"You... What? What do you mean?"
"I mean I killed her!" He was now openly crying. Sitting on a nearby log, he just cried. His hands covered his eyes as he sobbed.
Robb couldn't speak for a few minutes. His brother had killed the one he loved? How?! He didn't have to ask, since Jaeheron started to explain what happened.
"As you know, I was named king in the north after Sansa and I took back Winterfell. Some months later, Daenerys arrived in Westeros. When I met her, I think I started to imagine her in bed with me almost immediately. She was that beautiful. As time went on, I began to see the kind of person she truly was. She cared for people, no matter what their place in the world was. She refused to strike the capital with any of the dragons she had. She knew how many people would die if she did use them against a city. She was so much better than any ruler that the Iron Throne had seen in years. I started to fall in love with her soon after I showed her the dragonglass mines on Dragonstone. I think, I think she did as well. I was worried when she flew off to fight the Lannisters on the Goldroad, and I think she was worried when I led the raid beyond the wall. When she lost one of her dragons, she was devastated. They're like her children.
"I woke up on the ship to Daenerys was on a chair right by my bed. She pledged her armies to my cause, and that is when I bent the knee to her. I loved her, and I knew she was the one Westeros needed to lead it. As we sailed back to the North, we could no longer take the tension. We fell into bed and spent our whole time at sea making love. We didn't care what the crew thought. We didn't care what our advisors thought."
The bliss on his brother's face was contagious. Robb found himself smiling, thinking of Talisa. It was clear Jaeheron found what Robb had.
"It all started to go downhill at Winterfell. The northerners were furious I had joined Daenerys. Lord Glover even refused to fight the dead. Sansa was also angry, but she kept quiet, at least for the most part. Then I learned who I was. My friend Samwell Tarly told me while he was angry that she killed his father and brother. I was in shock, and so was Daenerys. She knew I was the heir to the wretched throne she wanted. I was affected by our relation. I wish I hadn't. You already know how many we lost in that fight. When I told Arya and Sansa, they promised not to tell anyone who I really was. Sansa, she broke that soon and told Tyrion. Well, we then moved against Cersei. Daenerys lost Rhaegal, who was still hurt, to that murderer Euron Greyjoy. Then she watched as her friend Missandei died. I got to Dragonstone to find her having trouble falling asleep. It was clear she was in need, but the way we were related kept me from comforting her.
"Then, during the battle, she snapped. After the Lannisters surrendered, she pressed the attack. Her dragon attacked the smallfolk. I watched as she razed the whole city to the ground. Afterwards, Tyrion was arrested. I went to see him, and he said that the queen needed to die. After seeing what I saw, and after talking, it seemed like she was too far gone. As we kissed for the last time, I used a dagger to stab her in the heart."
Jaeheron stopped and cried more. Robb was too shocked to say anything.
Jaeheron spoke up again. "And it was all for nothing."
"Nothing?! Brother, she destroyed a city of innocent people!"
"About a month before Bran brought us back, the north was ruled by Sansa. Bran ruled the other kingdoms. Bran came to me in my mind. He said I deserved to know the truth. Daenerys hadn't gone mad. She was poisoned. When Tyrion found out who I really was, it wasn't long until he told Varys. The spider saw me as a better ruler, and started to slip Basilisk venom into Daenerys' food while trying to tell all of Westeros the truth. Although the amount he managed to slip Daenerys didn't kill her, it affected her mind. Its why she was having trouble sleeping. Its why she snapped."
Once more, Robb was speechless.
"I wasn't the only one who Bran told. He told Tyrion and he came to see that it was his telling Varys had led to what happened. He drank so much wine it killed him. He was that affected by what he caused."
Robb got up from where he was sitting, and walked to Jaeheron's side. "Brother, I'm sorry. I don't know what to say other than that."
Jaeheron was silent and refused to look up. Robb suddenly realized. "There's more?!"
"Yes. Daenerys was with child. MY CHILD!"
Robb fell flat on his ass.
"Tell me, brother: if you were betrayed by someone you loved like a sister, and that betrayal caused you to stab Talisa to death while she was carrying your child, would YOU still be the same?!"
Robb couldn't respond. No, he wouldn't.
Jaeheron continued one last time. "When I learned the truth, I confronted Sansa. I shouted at her in front of all the other nobility in the north. I blamed her breaking her word for all that had happened. When the lords found out their queen went back on her word to me, a promise she made before a heart tree, they were enraged. They drew their swords and hacked her apart. She died begging for my help. I just watched it happen. The lords wanted me to be king again. I laughed at them all. I told them they were worse than the southerners they looked down on. I told them they could kill each other for all I cared. That's what they did. By the time Bran came to me so that the spell to send us back could be done, the northern lords had pushed the first men to the brink of extinction in a war for total power in the north. Quite frankly, I didn't care. They could rot in the grave after what they had shown what they really were: worse than beasts."
Jaeheron put his hands up and once more covered his eyes, crying once more. Robb got off the ground and hugged him. Nothing he said could possibly be of comfort.
So, now you know what happened. Daenerys wasn't mad and she was also carrying. After that, I think Jon earned some leeway with the methods he's using now.
