The Dawn of Man

4 million years ago, the Silver Millennium was a peaceful time for the people of the Moon Kingdom, and the Earth Kingdom, nothing could go wrong.

Queen Serenity wasn't in rule of the Silver Millennium yet, that would come later, so her grandmother at this time was the ruler. Queen Secunda.

The Sailor Senshi were also the grandmothers of the princesses of their respective planets.

One day, out in the Sea of Tranquility, was a black monolith. Queen Secunda had her Senshi; Mercury investigate.

"Hmm. This is an odd object. I can't get a clue out of what it is, where it came from, or what it's purpose is." Said Mercury trying over and over again to calculate the object in question.

The monolith stood still, like it was waiting for something. Yes, it was waiting.

Mercury's friend, and allie: Jupiter came to inform her of something that was discovered by the Earth Kingdom. She approached her steadily and with a confidence that no other can match.

"Mercury! The Earth Kingdom has reported a similar object on Earth. Queen Secunda has ordered me to come get you, to present your studies!" She said.

Mercury faced Jupiter: "A second monolith on Earth? Okay, I'll report to Queen Secunda once I figure out ther–" She cut herself off as she turned around to face the Monolith, but it was gone. As if it was suddenly buried, or vanished without a single trace. Only a mound remained.

"Where did it go!?" She asked, confused.

Jupiter looked at the mound, and grew confused as well. It was there just a moment ago, and now it's suddenly gone? How did it that happen?" Mercury, and Jupiter looked at each other and nodded, they had to report their findings to Queen Secunda.

Earth, 4 million years ago was a dry world. Apes roamed the land, searching for food, and shelter under the protection of the Earth Kingdom, as with all the other animals of the ancient planet.

A group of apes in particular sat together in the morning sun. The sun was hot in ancient africa, but the apes didn't mind – well they did, but not in a fussy way. They lived in a dry environment, and water was growing scarcer and scarcer with each passing day.

The apes did live near a waterhole however, but it was more of a mud puddle with how much was left of it. At one time it had been a small lake, perfect for amphibians to get by and grazing tapirs, stalking leopards, and of course the apes.

Today, the apes journeyed to the waterhole. On the way however one of the apes was jumped and killed, by a starving leopard. The apes panicked and left their brethren to be eaten. They didn't feel sadness, just the joy of being alive! So what if one of them died? That meant it was weak, and couldn't simply stay close to the rest. Afterall, one less to deal with, water was growing scarce, it was only natural to have the relief of extra competition. Or so their primitive minds thought. Or would have thought.

The waterhole was muddy when they arrived, but it proved to be much for the thirsty apes. Another group of apes arrived as well, seemingly having the same plan to journey today. Two groups different leaders, things were going to be troublesome.

With a roar, the more dominant leader of the second group tried to scare away the smaller group. They didn't lose any members of their pack as the first group had.

Moonwatcher, the leader of the first group tired his best to stand up to the slightly larger ape. He was pushed, and mocked by the second leader. The Dominant leader, roared at him, and his pack to scare them away once more. Moonwatcher couldn't win. He didn't know that consciously, but his instincts told him to back down. So he did. Moonwatcher led his pack back to their dry cave, leaving the waterhole under the rule of the larger clan.

That night, the apes huddled in their cave. Hungry and thirsty. They slept for warmth under the cold night air, while a crescent moon loomed over the sky.

Next day, a mysterious monolith appeared in front of the cave. Moonwatcher and his fellow apes woke up, and freaked out. Their brains couldn't comprehend the object. The apes crepted closer to it cautiously, as if it was it's own animal. And Maybe it was?

Moonwatcher approached it first, and touched it. Nothing seemed to happen. He gently rubbed it, while the other apes grouped around it. Some standing at a distance, while others followed Moonwatcher's curiousity.

Moonwatcher, after observing the strange object, suddenly lost curiosity in it, and left. Some of the apes that also touched the monolith did the same. The others that only observed the monolith from a distance simply continued to be bewildered by it.

Moonwatcher, went towards a pile of bones from a dead tapir. He sat in between the dismantled bones, and looked them over.

One of the generals of the Earth Kingdom arrived at the monolith, and scared the remaining apes away. He approached it with a similar curiosity as the apes did.

"So, it's somewhat identical to the Tycho Monolith from the Moon Kingdom eh?" He said. It was strange. Where did these objects come from? Was there an enemy in the Solar System? Or was there something mroe mysterious at work here? Maybe the Senshi of Mercury could explain at a later date, but for now he decided to return to the Earth Kingdom.

When he was about to leave, Moonwatcher caught his eye. He was using a bone to hunt down a alive tapir. Something the apes could never think of doing. If was a peculiar sight to see. He looked over at the other apes, and saw that they were using bones to destroy the leftovers of skeletons, some even joining Moonwatcher hunt.

"I have never seen this much intelligence in apes before. Could it have something to do with the monolith?" He turned his attention from the apes back to the monolith, only to see that it was suddenly gone.

Moonwatcher, and his clan returned back the waterhole the next day, to see the second group there. Apparently they had made the waterhole their new home. The larger leader roared to scare away Moonwatcher, who had approached him with the bone in his hand. Moonwatcher roared, but the intimidation failed. The second leader roared again, but Moonwatcher didn't back down.

Seeing this, the second leader charged at Moonwatcher with the intent to beat him, but Moonwatcher dodged and slammed the bone into the larger's skull. Seeing this an opportunity he banged the bludgeoned corpse to a pulp. Moonwatcher's clan began to roar, and with their own bone weapons, attempt to scare off the second clan.

The second clan looked horrified by what Moonwatcher had done. He had killed their leader. They moved back in fear as the others raised their weapons, and soon they ran away.

Moonwatcher stood triumphantly above the second leader's corpse, and roared in victory, thowing his bone into the air!

Humanity's first actions were those of violence. They would not be part of the Kingdoms, but hold their own. Confident over their soon to be empire over the planet.

The general had decided to remain and watch the apes. Truly atonishe by their new intelligence.

"Seems like the future for this planet is going to be an interesting one." He smirked.
