Calamity: 100 Years Later: Chapter 16: Meeting Yunobo

It was a hot day in Death Mountain near the Abandoned North Mine. Link had just finished another shrine on his way up to the Abandoned North Mine.

Link had made it to the Abandoned North Mine, blasting rocks away with cannons and Remote Bombs to allow him to glide high up into the air He heard a voice call from inside a rock formation. It was Yunobo, who had been trapped by large magma coated rocks in a cave.

Link found a cannon which he used to put a Remote Bomb in and blasted the Remote Bomb at the cave that Yunobo was stuck in. After the blast from the bomb cleared, Link glided over to the cave and approached Yunobo.

"Oh man, oh man, oh man... Monsters! They're here! They found me! Help!", shouted Yunobo as he ran in circles a few times before stopping.

"Were you the one who broke through that crag to rescue me, goro? Thanks, brother! But what brought you all the way out here to begin with?", asked Yunobo.

"I'm looking for Yunobo. Bludo sent me to come get him.", said Link.

"Oh! So Boss told you to come find me! Thank goodness! In any case, I am glad you saved me, goro! The name's Yunobo, everyone calls me that, which makes sense goro. I came to get some painkillers for Boss, but a magma bomb caused a rock slide sealing the entrance, goro. By the way, how did you break through those rocks, goro?", asked Yunobo.

"I used one of the cannons and a Remote Bomb.", said Link.

"Wait, you used Boss's cannon?! That cannon is so difficult to use that I thought only Boss could use it. Sorry, I've gotta run! But do come by and see the Boss later, OK? He may be gruff, be he always repays the favor. OK, I've gotta go! Goodbye for now, goro!", said Yunobo.

Yunobo walked out of the cave and rolled into a ball down the path leading back to Goron City. Link used the shrine near Goron City to teleport back to Goron City.

Once Link made it back, Link glided over to Goron City where Bludo was standing and approached Bludo.

"Ah, if it isn't the tiny traveler! Yunobo told me all about how you helped him, goro! That takes a lot of guts! Here's a reward for ya!", said Bludo as he handed Link a Fireproof Elixir.

"Thanks Bludo, though I'm wearing Flamebreaker armor.", said Link.

"Well, just in case you lose the Flamebreaker armor keep this!", said Bludo.

"OK then. I've taken my painkillers, so it's time to meet up with Yunobo. I mean, no disrespect to Daruk's legacy, but if I'm not there to give that Rudania a good walloping...", said Bludo.

"Daruk? Who is that?", asked Link.

"You mean to tell me you don't know who Daruk is?! The Goron Champion?!", asked Bludo.

Bludo turned to face the statue of Daruk. "See that statue up there? That statue is of Daruk, the Goron Champion from 100 years ago.", said Bludo.

Link took a good look at the statue, and another memory came back to him.

"Yeah! I think I'm finally getting the hang of controlling this Divine Beast! I tell you what... sure is a blast piloting a toy like this around. Let those other Champions know, they better eat their gravel if they wanna keep up with Daruk.", said Daruk.

Daruk looked into the distance and so did Link. "Speaking of which, can you believe this view?", asked Daruk.

"Just look at all those delectable rocks sprinkled on those mountains. I may not know a whole lot about this Calamity Ganon thing... But mark my words, I'll protect this land of ours to the death!", said Daruk as he turned to face Link.

"Hey, by the way... congrats on becoming the princess's appointed knight. That's a really big deal! Protecting the king's daughter... Seriously though, the princess is a strong personality-so strong she can't quite see the range for the peaks. Remember that, and you'll be fine.", said Daruk.

All of a sudden, the mountains began to shake and boulders fell down. Daruk used Daruk's Protection and his fists to prevent him and Link from being crushed to death.

"All right, so what was I saying?", asked Daruk. "That was a little strange... As far as I know, Death Mountain has been quiet for decades. But if the mountain is shivering enough to send down a bunch of boulders that size, then-Never mind. Forget I said anything.", said Daruk.

Link now had another memory come back to him. It was the day he went with Daruk to Death Mountain to pilot the Divine Beast Vah Rudania.

"What's gotten into you? Hylians sure are strange. Anyways, Yunobo is actually a descendant of the great Daruk. That's why that slacker can even use Daruk's Protection! He uses it to protect himself when we fire him at Rudania, which is the only way we can chase that blasted beast away.", said Bludo.

"Normal cannonballs don't work. Oh, ouch!", said Bludo.

"Are you okay?", asked Link.

"Yeah, just peachy. Dumb traveler, of course I'm not OK!", Bludo muttered to himself.

"I hate to put you on the spot, but... can you tell Yunobo that I'm gonna have to cancel for today?", asked Bludo.

"Yes I can, Bludo!", said Link.

"Good! Now go!", said Bludo.

Link walked out of Goron City and to the mine, finding another shrine.

Link went into the shrine and completed the trial, earning Spirit Orbs.

Link then exited the shrine and returned on his journey to Yunobo. Link found Yunobo who was cornered by two Moblins.

Link ran up to the Moblins and defeated them, saving Yunobo in the process.

"Thanks, goro! I'm no good at fighting monsters as you just saw.", said Yunobo.

"Where's the boss?", asked Yunobo.

"He's not coming.", said Link.

"What?! Why not, goro?!", asked Yunobo.

"His back hurts.", said Link.

"After all that trouble of getting him the painkillers and they didn't work, goro.", said Yunobo as he facepalmed.

"Well if Boss can't help, I suppose I should head back now...", said Yunobo.

"Wait a minute! I'm not going back!", said Link.

"Huh, you're not going back? But why, goro?!", asked Yunobo.

"I wanna board Rudania and free the Divine Beast.", said Link.

"WHAT?! You're gonna try boarding the Divine Beast?!", asked Yunobo.

"Yes.", said Link.

"Who do you think you are... lord Daruk? It's dangerous in there, goro!

"Come on, you've seen me take on Moblins and rescue you from a cave, surely I can take down the Divine Beast.", said Link.

"Hmm, well I don't quite see your reasons for doing this, goro. But I'm sure we might be able to board the Divine Beast somehow. Problem is that Boss raised the Bridge of Eldin to make sure that Divine Beast couldn't come over here.", said Yunobo.

"In order to get over there, we'd have to find a way to get the Bridge of Eldin down again, goro. Boss would normally use the cannon to lower it... Ugh, we can't get across unless we figure something out! If Boss can't come down here, then he can't use the cannon to lower the bridge meaning we're out of luck, goro!", said Yunobo.

"Oh, it just occurred to me that you know how to use the cannons, right, goro?", asked Yunobo.

"Yes, I do know how to use them!", said Link.

"Then maybe you could use me as a cannonball to stop the Divine Beast, goro!", said Yunobo.

"Are you sure?!", asked Link.

"I've got Daruk's Protection, goro! My ancestor's help can't possibly fail me! That means I can smash into anything and it won't hurt one bit, goro! My ancestor, Daruk was a big deal, goro. That's what Boss says, so it's gotta be true.", said Yunobo.

"And I can use Daruk's Protection just like Daruk could! That means there's no need to worry, goro! Now let's get to it!", said Yunobo.

Yunobo climbed inside the cannon and Link used a Remote Bomb to fire the cannon. Yunobo hit the Bridge of Eldin, causing it to fall to the ground. Yunobo landed back on the ground and was somewhat dizzy after hitting the bridge.

"We did it... See that, goro... If we put our heads together... anything is possible! Anyways, let's get moving!", said Yunobo.

Link and Yunobo walked across the bridge and the Divine Beast let out a loud screech. The Divine Beast sent out flying Guardians to kill Link and Yunobo.

"Oh... Yikes. A sentry is always a nuisance no matter where it is or how many of them there are. If one finds you, Rudania will go nuts, causing Death Mountain to erupt, goro. I... always get spotted, and then magma bombs come raining down one after another. Maybe the best idea is for you to give me a signal to let me know when I should stop and move forward. Um, got any ideas?", asked Yunobo.

"Maybe a whistle.", said Link.

"A whistle? That's a good idea for a signal, goro! When I hear your whistle, I'll either stop in my tracks or start moving forward. I like it!", said Yunobo.

Link and Yunobo moved forward with Link whistling to Yunobo and Yunobo following Link. Eventually, they came to a cannon and fired at Rudania. Rudania sent out more flying Guardians to kill Link and Yunobo.

Link and Yunobo fought the Guardians and used the cannons to fire at Rudania. Eventually, they had weakened Rudania.

"That was so cool! You really put a licking on that thing , Link! Now go, this is our chance!", said Yunobo. Link nodded to Yunobo before he jumped down and glided into the Divine Beast.
