Chapter 7: Friendship

Nessie

I felt physically and emotionally numb after that. My mom tried to do the best that she could to comfort me. I could see this revelation hurt her maybe even more than it hurt me.

My mother still admonished me for running away though. Of course they had heard the entire conversation between my grandfather and I. Nothing was private in this family. With a mind reading father around that was kind of impossible to do.

I never did see my dad again the rest of the evening. I wondered where he'd gone off to and what he was doing. I took a deep breath. I just wanted to go home and have some time to myself fo process everything.

My mom must have sensed my distress and it was her that brought up the idea of taking me home. Really I just wanted my car fixed so that I could drive myself home but my family didn't think I was any kind of shape to drive at the moment. It was probably true.

Once I was home and truly alone I threw myself on my bed and allowed myself to wallow in my own thoughts. I hardly slept at all that night. I just kept tossing and turning. One question kept plaguing my mind. Who would do something so horrible to me?

I rose at five in the morning to get ready for school. I had only gotten maybe two hours of sleep the whole night. I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to get through the school day in my current state of mind.

As soon as I walked into the building I spotted Austen waiting for me by our lockers. He smiled and waved me over. I smiled for the first time in twenty four hours.

"Hey Nessie guess what?" he asked me.

"What?"

"I just found out that some new students are starting at our school today,"

"and?" I shrugged. "It's not like this is the first time new students have started at our school,"

"Yes but there is something strange about this family. I mean they're all beautiful, the girls are all drop dead gorgeous I mean, especially the blonde-"

Oh God. Of course my family would find out exactly what school I went to and would enroll themselves at my school. I wondered how they planned on staying hidden. This wasn't exactly Forks.

"Hello Nessie are you even listening to me?"

"Wh-what?"

"You should've seen Liam and Adrian earlier. They were trying to hit on the blonde girl earlier. Let's just say it didn't end well for them. But that's okay I don't think she'll be able to resist my good looks,"

"and she won't be able to resist all that modesty of yours," I laughed. "Seriously Austen if you play with fire you're going to get burned,"

"That's alright. Hell is my kind of place anyway,"

I couldn't contain my laughter. I was in stitches. Oh Austen. He'll never change. The bell for first period rang and we went our separate ways.

I didn't know why I was still shocked to see my mom when she walked into the classroom. Maybe part of me was still believing that this wasn't happening. I didn't really understand why my family decided to enroll in the very same high school that I was attending.

Everyone was staring at her. The guys were practically drooling over her. It was very very very weird seeing teenage guys checking out my teenaged looking mom this way. It was even more strange when two of those guys happened to be some of your best friends. I could see Adrian and Liam's eyes roaming all over her body. Part of me wanted to shout at them to stop staring at her but then that would be weird. I also didn't want to have to explain myself at lunch time when I sat with them.

The morning went by in a haze. I found it difficult to focus on any of my classes. My mind was still trying to process everything and it wasn't easy.

Before I knew it it was time for lunch. My family were all already sitting at a table with trays of untouched food in front of them. Mom smiled when she saw me and waived me over. I sighed. My friends were waiting for me. I'd been having lunch with Austen, Adrian, and Liam for the last ten years and it would be strange if I suddenly left them for the new kids.

I was so hungry that I ended up buying both a cheeseburger and pizza. This pregnancy was really doing a number on my appetite. I paid for my food and walked right past my family to sit with my friends. I saw the shocked looks on the Jacob's and the Cullens' faces when I walned right past their table. Austen had a very sour look on his face.

"What the hell happened to you Austen?" I chuckled.

"Oh," Liam snickered. "Oh Mr. Stud over here who was bragging about how unresistable he is to all females just got rejected by all the hot new girls over there,"

"All?"

"Yeah Mr. Cocky pants here thought he'd try hitting all of them and that didn't end well for him!"

I laughed. "Well don't say I didn't warn you earlier Austen. Play with fire and you will get burned! But what were your words again? Oh hell is my kind of place,"

We all laughed. "Oh shut up,"

"Dude do you need ice for that burn?" I laughed.

"Ha ha laugh all you want but I'm not giving up! I'll get at least one of those girls to sleep with me you can count on that,"

I shook my head. "You really are a glutton for punishment aren't you,"

"You laugh now but you'll see,"

"Look," I laughed. "Why don't we go the diner and get some milkshakes after school?"

"Sounds good to me," Liam said.

"Dude food always sounds good to you," Adrian said.

"as if you ever say no to food,"

Before I knew it the bell rang signaling the end of lunch. When I saw my father walk into my science class he looked very angry and upset about something. I sank in my seat. Had I really upset my father that much when I went to sit with my friends at lunch instead? Mom seemed just as baffled by his mood as I was.

I tried not to be bothered by it at all. Next was my final class of the day English. Then finally it was time to leave for the day.

Just as I was about to get into my car an ice cold hand stopped me. I was about to scream and then I realized it was just my father. "Nessie I do not want you hanging out with those boys anymore,"

"Dad s-"

"They're the ones who raped you that night! Austen drugged you and they took turns raping you all night long! I saw it in their heads they-"

I rolled my eyes. "Dad they've been my best friends for over ten years. They wouldn't do anything like that to me,"

"Renesmee-"

"Dad you've got it all wrong. These boys are my very best friends. I know they would never ever hurt me like that. They're my best friends and you shouldn't say things like that about them,"

"Renesmee-"

"I have to go dad my best friends are waiting for me,"
