Asami
Asami watched with her heart in her mouth, but Korra did not attack immediately.
"How could you?" She demanded.
"You're going to have to be more specific," Kuvira countered.
"You're behaving like the Earth Queen," Korra stated. Wu looked like he wanted to say something from his vantage point behind Mako but closed his mouth again.
"No," Kuvira said with a smirk. "The Earth Queen was incompetent. I am not."
"You are a brute," Korra told her.
"Hah!" Kuvira snorted. "A brute? I'm offended. Would a brute have offered food to the starving, painstakingly rebuilt the countryside, and brought the people over to her side by winning hearts and minds?"
"Easy for you to say when any hearts and minds you didn't win you just toss in jail."
"I've had enough of this. Take the King!"
Three of Wu's guards exchanged looks and then shook their heads, but more obeyed the Great Uniter, pulling batons out. Mako gestured threateningly for them to back off, but instead they lunged and the battle was on. Korra went to help her friend, blasting one of Kuvira's men in the back so that he went flying away to the side, but immediately one of Kuvira's metal clamps attached itself to her ankle and lifted her up into the air. Finding herself upside down, Kuvira gestured and launched a blast of flame at Kuvira. The Uniter was forced to take cover behind a section of stage that she ripped up as a shield, causing the Avatar to drop to the floor. She took a second to prise the metal off her leg and stood up.
Asami stood up in her seat, and with one hand she reached into the other sleeve of her dress.
Mako set fire to one of his assailant's sleeves, which panicked the man and caused him to drop his weapon. As he ran away screaming, looking for the nearest fountain, Mako caught his baton and parried the second attacker, driving a third off with fire. He looked at the three men who had refused to attack him.
"Are you going to help your King or not?"
Asami pulled, and from her sleeve emerged a compact electro glove, which folded itself smartly around her hand. She pressed a button on the back of her hand, and it began to hum with energy.
Mako's plea had its intended effect. The three looked at each other, pulled out their own batons, and rushed forwards, engaging their own fellow guards in combat. Wu shouted happily that they would be rewarded as Mako threw his baton to one of them so that he could concentrate on Firebending.
Kuvira emerged from behind her shield, swung it in a 360 degree arc around her body and launched it with incredible speed towards Korra. The Avatar somersaulted herself into the air with the aid of her airbending, so that it passed underneath her and embedded itself in the wall. As she came down again, she pulled it out and returned it to sender. Kuvira saw the large shard of metal speeding towards her and rolled out of the way, launching four metal strips in quick succession. Korra dodged, but she only managed to avoid two of them and Kuvira managed to land one on her right arm and one on her left leg.
The assembled crowd gasped as the Avatar was lifted into the air, and Kuvira held her there with one hand while launching two more strips with the other. These attached themselves to her other limbs, and suddenly Korra was pulled taut. Even from this distance, pushing her way through the crowd, Asami could see the look of terror in her eyes and knew that she wasn't going to get there in time.
"It's a shame really," Kuvira said. "I don't want us to fight. I'll defend myself, but this is a shame. I had hoped this wouldn't come to violence."
She considered for a second. "I'm not going to kill you. Apart from anything else there's no faster way of annoying half the world than killing you."
She looked seriously at the Avatar.
"Promise you'll leave me alone if I let you down?"
Asami stopped, and grabbed hold of a small leather handle attached to her glove. She then formed the hand in the glove into a fist, and pointed it towards the Great Uniter.
She pulled on the handle.
There was a popping noise, and four wires burst out of her knuckles and quickly embedded themselves in Kuvira's clothes. Before she could react, the glove transmitted a jolt of electricity through her body.
Kuvira's body arched and she yelled in pain, before collapsing to the ground. Her hold over the Avatar released, and Korra dropped to the floor, rubbing her wrists and ankles. Asami ran up into the stage.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
"I'm fine!" Korra said, but she didn't look it. She was still shaken, Asami could tell.
"Help them!"
Asami looked over to where Mako and the three loyal guards had been backed up, trying to keep themselves between Kuvira's men and the King. She ran up behind their opponents and electrocuted one from behind. As he collapsed, the one next to him began to turn around, giving Mako the opportunity to punch him. He crumpled too, and Asami helped him subdue the rest. As the last one crumpled, Asami looked around at where Korra was still stood, having taken no part in the last section of the fight. She was still staring at Kuvira's inert form, her eyes wide.
"We can't stay here!" Asami told the group at large.
"I agree," Mako said. "I don't suppose you've still got that airship nearby?"
"As it happens, I do," Asami nodded. "Where's Bolin?"
"I don't know," Mako admitted. "He doesn't seem to have been invited."
"We'll have to worry about him later."
Mako didn't like this, but he nodded.
"Alright."
"You're leaving?" Wu asked.
"What do you mean 'you?'" Mako asked. "You're coming too."
"I can't leave my people," Wu proclaimed.
"Either you leave them, or you get thrown in jail," Mako pointed out.
"Good point," Wu admitted.
"Korra!" Asami called. The Avatar snapped out of her trance.
"Yes?"
"Come on! We're leaving!" Asami gestured for her to follow. When Korra didn't move, she ran forward, grabbed the Avatar, and pulled her away. Korra did not resist.
"Stop!" A shout came from behind them. They turned to see more guards entering the room from a side door. Their leader saw Kuvira sprawled on the floor unmoving, and then turned angrily to their little group.
"Get them!" He called, pointing his baton at them.
"Run!" Mako shouted. None of them needed much encouragement, and they sprinted towards the Satomobile and freedom, leaving a bunch of very confused dignitaries and angry guards behind them.
