Chapter 1: Traveling to a Forbidden Other World

The door gave off a glow before it opened. Out of it stepped a red haired woman dressed as a man from 17th century Europe might have with black shirt and pants, tucked into a knee high boot on her left foot. A wide, red belt held her pistols, tools and rapier. Over this she wore a black, knee length coat. Her peg leg hampered her movements, slightly, but she still moved with the grace of a seasoned acrobat. Her lantern illuminated the dark room she had entered. The entire room: floor/walls/ceiling was made of an oily black stone. The section near the door she had just entered was fenced in by a bronze, barred fence with a gate in front of her.

She was quickly followed by another redhead, this one wearing a Scottish men's shirt and kilt. She had a couple of hand axes and a large backpack strapped to her back. In her hands were a brace of wheel lock pistols that she pointed into the room as she entered, prepared for what ever danger she might encounter in the room.

The next to come through the door was a blonde haired woman, wearing purple puffy short pants and a matching shirt, with a white tunic over it and white tights under her pants, who was armed with Rapier and had a brace of pistols tucked into her belt.

After her, came a tall woman armed with a mace and a musket. She was dressed as a musketeer with maroon pants tucked into her thigh high boots and a white shirt covered by a blue Musketeer's tabard that partially concealed her backpack full of gear and the rapier on her belt.

Next, was a brunette woman wearing a white shirt with a corset over it, brown pants and knee-high boots. She appeared unarmed but held her hands as if her hands were her weapons, prepared to face any foes that might appear.

Behind her, came a woman wearing only a few small pieces of cloth to cover her lower parts, held on by thin brass chains that wrapped around her upper body and held a couple of moon-shaped brass plates, barely large enough to conceal her nipples. She too, held her hands like they were her weapons.

The last woman to enter had Asia features with hair that hung down to her knees. She was wearing an elaborate dress that must have cost a fortune and appeared to move on its' own. In her hand, was a broadsword.

By now, this little, fenced in area had become quite crowded.

"Hold my lantern," said the woman who had been the first one to enter, as she handed it to the blonde woman who was dressed in purple and white. Pulling some tools out of a pouch on her belt, she stuck her arms through the bars and started picking the lock, which was on the other side of the gate, so she had to do it by feel.

"Well, I guess the God that Crawls has now become the God that Crawls in Hell," said the Asian woman in the fancy dress, as she shut the door behind them. "Any idea where we are?"

"Some other world," replied the brunette woman who was wearing nearly nothing. "I hope we're not in the Veins Of This World."

"It IS awfully dark here," agreed the blonde musketeer.

"How's it coming, Princess?" Asked the other blonde.

"Quiet Kendra! I'm trying to concentrate, said the redhead who was busy picking the lock. "Got it!" Exclaimed the Flame Princess as the lock clicked open.

The gate opened and they stepped into the room to look around. It was a 10 x 20 foot room. The entire room: floor, ceiling and walls were made of an oily, black stone. The walls were covered in strange symbols that had mostly been worn away with age. At the far end of the room: a stairway leading up was revealed. It was hard to see as it was made of the same oily black stone as the room.

"Can you make anything of this Princess?" asked the musketeer.

The Flame Princess stepped a little closer and studied the symbols as did the scantily clad woman and the unarmed woman in the corset.

"No, it's too exotic for me," replied the Flame Princess. "Do you want to cast a 'Comprehend Languages' on it, Melissa?"

"It looks too worn away to give me anything but gibberish," replied the brunette in the corset. "I hate to waste a spell. Perhaps Etain could give it a try?"

"Don't look at me!" replied the scantily clad woman. "I don't even have that spell in my book!"

Suddenly, Kendra (the blonde wearing purple and white, who was holding the lantern) let out a gasp!

"Look!" cried Kendra, as she pointed up at the ceiling.

The rest of them raised their gaze to see what she was pointing at. On the ceiling was some carvings that looked like a man, whose face and hands were sticking out of the water, his mouth open in an eternal, silent scream.

"How peculiar," said the musketeer. "I wonder what it means?"

"Who knows," replied the Scottish woman.

"We'll likely never know," added Etain.

"Let's see where these stairs go," said the Flame Princess, as she took back the lantern and strode towards the only exit left to them. The others resumed their usual marching order behind her. Even with her acrobatic skills, her peg-leg made climbing the stairs more difficult than it used to be.

Like the room they had just left, the walls, floor and ceiling of the stairway was made of that oily, black stone. The stairs went up a long, long way before the black stone gave way to white marble. They were also starting to see sunlight up ahead.

When they reached the top of the stairs, they found themselves in a room where the walls were lined with bookshelves. There were several rows of bookshelves filled with books. The light for the room was coming from a mirror, ahead. A row of bars, like a jail, was between them and the mirror, which was reflecting the blinding light of the sun too strongly for them to look directly at it.

"Ooo pretty!" said Melissa as she reached for a ragged looking ancient tome that Etain was also reaching for.

"Mine!" Exclaimed Etain as she grabbed the book at the same time.

"There are plenty of books for both of you," admonished the Flame Princess. "Both of you, pick another one."

Melissa huffed as she let go of the book and reached for another one. But as soon as her more scantily clad counterpart had moved on to another shelf, the pulled her original goal off the shelf and opened it. Flipping through it, she could tell it was some sort of tome on magical concepts and would make a good addition to her magical library.

Etain, meanwhile, had found an illustrated book in an obscure language. The pictures were of fur clad people fighting various sorts of undead. All of the undead were portrayed with blue eyes painted the same, bright shade of blue.

While the Magi were looting the restricted section of the library, the rest of the Party were examining the bars. On the other side of the bars were more shelves of books, which were easier to see if you weren't staring at the sun's reflection in the mirror. The ends of the bookshelves had more shelves on them facing the bars.

"Here!" exclaimed Kendra, as she pointed. She had gone down to a section of the bars that was not so brightly lit and had found a gate in the bars.

The Flame Princess had doused her lantern, pulled out her tinkering tools and got to work picking the lock on the gate.

She soon had the gate open and turned to her companion to order: "Get the others."

By now, Melissa had cast 'Anywhere Out of this World' on herself and the two magi were loading all the books in the restricted section into her. Etain would hand her books, and Melissa to touch them to her torso, where they would vanish into an extra-dimensional space.

"Flame found a way out," explained Kendra. "Finish up and let's get back in marching order."

Hearing that, the others helped their magi load all the books behind this section of the bars into Melissa's torso. Now that the selves were looted, the Party resumed marching order as they exited the restricted section.

They found themselves in a vast multistory library. With millions of books on shelves on multiple floors in this vast room which was obviously the interior of a gigantic tower, taller than anything they had ever seen.

Selena, who was the last to leave the area behind bars, said: "It's going to take a while to steal all of this."

Suddenly, a man in a gray robe stepped from around a bookshelf in front of them shouting and gesturing at them.

"Wizard!" Shouted Rhona, as she pointed her pistol at the gray-clad man and fired a shot.

BOOM!

NOTE: I have read a few entertaining stories where Dungeons & Dragons characters travel to another world in a different genre. My favorite is 'Harry Potter and the Natural 20' by Sir Polley.

But it seems to me that Lamentations of the Flame Princess is a better fit for Westeros than D&D. If you are not familiar with it, LotFP is a retro-clone of AD&D as it was published by TSR. However it is not a clone of a particular version of D&D, which were all very similar to each other when TSR published them.

The art of LotFP features a recurring cast of female adventurers that are the proxy for the Player Characters. I have described them here, but if you do an image search for them, you can find out what they look like. Here is a list of their names and classes:

Flame Princess - Redhead - Specialist

Rhona - Redhead - Scottish Fighter

Kendra - Fighter - blonde

Alice - Cleric - blonde

Melissa - MU -brunette

Etain - Necromancer - brunette

Selena - Asian Fighter
