Sam looked out at the screaming hoard making its way toward her and the other French Legionaries then looked next to her at Rick O'Connell.

"I knew this was going to be a lousy day." She muttered. Sam had been disguised as a man for as long as she's been in the legion and was still astounded that no one had caught on to her little ruse, not that it had been easy to keep, after all, spending so much time surrounded by men keeping her gender a secret was a full-time job, that had the men around her thinking she was just a very shy young boy, barely old enough to leave his mother's skirts.

"Personally, I would like to surrender. Why can we not just surrender?" Beni asked on the other side of Rick. Sam couldn't stand Beni, every time she looked at him all she could think of was a rat.

"Shut up and give me your bandolier," Rick replied, and their pasty companion handed over his cartridge belt.

"Then let's run away. Right now. While we can still make it." Rick ignored him crossing Beni's belt with his.

"Now give me your revolver, you'll never use it anyway." Beni handed over his gun too.

"Then let's play dead, huh? Nobody does that anymore." Sam rolled her eyes as O'Connell slipped the revolver into his belt next to his own.

"Hey Beni, go find me a big stick." She suggested.

"In the desert what for?" He asked.

"So I can tie it to your back, you appear to be without a spine." Suddenly their commander threw down his weapon and rode away, the trio looked at him then at each other.

"You just got promoted," Beni told O'Connell. Rick chuckled and then started yelling out orders.

"You're with me on this right?" He asked.

"Oh your strength gives me strength," Beni replied shakily.

"How'd a guy like you end up in the Legion anyway?" Sam asked.

"I got caught robbing a synagogue. Lots of good stuff in them holy places; churches, temples, mosques. And who's guarding them?"

"Alter boys?" O'Connell and Sam replied half-jokingly.

"Exactly! I speak seven languages including Hebrew, so my specialty was synagogues. What about you? Kill somebody?"

"No, but I'm considering it." She replied.

"What then? Robbery? Kidnaping? Extortion?"

"None of the above, thank you," Sam answered.

"Then what the hell are you doing here?" Beni demanded.

"I was just looking for a good time." She replied and Rick laughed before ordering the attack. Beni suddenly stood up and took off running yelling for the commander to wait for him. Battle quickly ensued. At one point Rick tackled Sam to the ground and then stared down at her in surprise.

"You're a girl?"

"No time to dwell on that now!" She yelled shooting one of their attackers and then shoving him off her they ran deeper into the ruins and spotted Beni going into a temple.

"Beni!" They both yelled, "Get inside!" He listened and then started closing the door.

"Don't you close that door!" Rick yelled. Too late by the time they got there the door was already shut.

"I'm gonna get you for this!" Sam yelled. They turned just as bullets whizzed by their heads. They bolted around the corner.

"You know, we live through this we're going to have to discuss this whole woman thing!" Rick yelled. Right after saying that she was shot in the back and fell forward. "Sam!"

When Sam woke up she was in a tent with bandages wrapped around her shoulder. Looking around she found she was with a man in black robes his face covered.

"You are very strong." He told her, and Sam had a feeling that for an outsider to be told this was a huge compliment.

"Thank you. Where am I?"

"You are in the village of the Medjai. We were not expecting a woman to be among the warriors we found today."

"No one was. Will I be able to go home?"

"Our chief shall decide."

Three years later Sam walked into the library where her twin sister was standing in the middle of collapsed bookshelves.

"Look at this! Sons of the pharaohs! Give me frogs, flies, locusts, anything but you! Compared to you the other plagues were a joy!" Sam chuckled as her sister started to apologize. While they looked very similar the main difference was that Sam was a little darker complected and had straighter hair, outside of the physical appearance they both had a deep love of Egypt that they expressed in different ways. Evelyn was a bookworm who wanted to be an Egyptologist., while Sam was more hands-on, an adventurer who loved being out in the field.

"Still causing trouble, Evie?" Sam asked walking out of the shadows.

"Samantha, how was your trip to America?" Evelyn asked.

"Eh, boorish, just like the people," Sam replied. They heard a noise and looked at each other then made their way into the museum.

"Abdul?" Evelyn called, nervously. "Mohammed? Bob?" Evelyn grabbed a torch and the twins slowly made their way further into the room. Suddenly a mummy sat up in one of the sarcophagi yelling, causing Evelyn to scream and Sam went to stab it with her Bowie knife only to freeze seeing her brother inside.

"You!" She yelled. "You..."

"Drunkard? Fool? Rat-bastard? Please call me something original." Jonathan said, laughing.

"Have you no respect for the dead?" Evelyn scolded as Sam put away her knife.

"Of course I do, but I should rather like to join them," Jonathan replied.

"Well I wish you would do it sooner rather than later," Evelyn said.

"I can arrange that." Sam cut in.

"Before you ruin my career the same way you ruined yours." Jonathan climbed out of the sarcophagus.

"My dear, sweet, baby sister, I'll have you know my career is on a high note." He defended.

"High not ha!"

"For five years you've been scouring around Egypt and what do you have to show for it?" Sam asked. "Nothing."

"Oh yes, I do!" He said reaching into his pocket. "I have something right here."

"Oh no, not another worthless trinket, Jonathan. If I bring one more piece of junk to the curator to try and sell for you. . ." Evelyn trailed off looking at the box their brother was holding and Sam stared at it too. "Where did you get this?"

"On a dig down in Thebes," Jonathan explained. "My whole life I've never found anything, Evie. Tell me I've found something." The box opened revealing an ancient piece of paper.

"Jonathan," Evie said softly.

"Yes?"

"I think you found something." The twins said at the same time.
