Author's Note: To Leah and Ronni. Thanks.
This is from Gandalf's point of view.
And for those who are wondering - no, this is not slash.
Almost every second
of every minute
of every day
I suffer inside
from having to see you suffer.
The Ring's too powerful
drunk with Sauron's evil
and it's giving you the utmost strain
Having to see you with this burden
and trying not to get captured by the Ringwraiths
is the deepest pain
that anyone could endure.
You, an innocent hobbit,
who have lived in the Shire all your life
have done remarkably well
but with a high price.
Gollum betrayed you
and Shelob nearly killed you
yet,
you only stood up
and walked on.
The Ring's tempting you,
I see
Tempting you, seizing you
pulling you with all its power
Drawing you, possessing you, weakening you
until the very depth of your being
your heart
is entirely shrouded in evil.
But yet to have come so far
bearing it
without the slightest complaint
you've shown
that you have a stronger will -
a stronger endurance
a stronger willpower
than anyone could have.
That's what makes you unique
for fighting the Ring's power
is definitely no easy task.
At times I wish to lift you
from this burden
but you'll have to suffer it alone
My whole being knows that.
For seeing the look in your eyes
when the Ring was destroyed
my spirit lifted
and my heart bled no more.
