A short little thingie that I wrote when I was board before To D'ni. Added some PoTS content afterwards.
"Returning."
The young part-D'ni woman paused, the silence filled with feeling.
"One final gift, something that no D'ni writer has been able to do for more than ten thousand years. I alone can write this gift. I alone am chosen to do this, and more. This gift is what my father Atrus would have longed to give his grandmother, Ti'ana. What Ti'ana longed for and danced for. The gift of life in the desert."
Yeesha turned and walked to where the door came down, gazing out at the cleft, down at the pool, down at the small, delicate blue flowers over Keta's grave. She looked back at the explorer standing inside the rough-hewn imager room looking at her with puzzlement.
Yeesha was proud. She was not prideful; but proud of what another had done, what others had denied until they were gone. It took only a few days to destroy the D'ni Empire.
One single person can do in a minute what an empire failed to do in millennia.
"Perhaps the ending has not yet been written."
With that, she took a step, which brought her out of the room and onto the small stone ledge. As the door closed slowly behind her, Yeesha carefully stepped down the rope ladder and onto the ground, which squished softly beneath her step. She walked down to the pool and stood in it, her sandals completely submerged. As thunder boomed in the sky Yeesha raised her hands and turned once, as if she was in a ritual.
She then stood, closed her eyes, and stuck out her tongue.
The first raindrop fell on it.
Yeesha drew in her tongue, tasted the sweet water, and sighed softly. She then opened the Relto book strapped to her right leg, and placed her hand on the linking panel. The Grower's form disintegrated in the increasingly humid air.
