Cereal Is Complicated
Disclaimer: I don't own The O.C., any cereals or other breakfast foods mentioned, and I don't own…that's all that was mentioned in the story. I'm out.
Companion: Hash and Hash Browns
A/N: One-shot. I thought of the two together, just how something so complicated can relate to something everyone experiences: Breakfast. Summer's story is noticeably shorter then Seth's. I hope you enjoy, and if you haven't noticed, I'm a SS shipper, what can I say? (Yeah, it's the same A/N. You're an observer!)
Summer ran down the stairs of her house and rushed into the kitchen. She had a half hour before school, and she was going to spend it eating breakfast. She opened the cabinet and looked at her options.
Wheat cereal or Trix?
It really should've been a simple question. But the boxes weren't just what she was eating for breakfast.
It had seemed Summer's everyday decisions were constantly not so simple, and instead a complicated thing that required tons of thinking. And she knew just why. It wasn't just skirt or jeans, chocolate or vanilla, salad or pizza anymore. It was Zach or Cohen.
She hated the way she did it. Everything ended up right back at them. It was stupid, because she already chose Zach. And there hadn't even been a choosing process. It was Zach. No Cohen, Cohen was done. Sailing away on his dumbass boat, which then gave her the odd image of a box of Trix sailing on the ocean.
Damn, how early was it?
Wheat cereal was the safe choice. It was healthy, and a good way to start off the day. It didn't shape her life, it just pushed her along, gave her the energy she needed. That, in no way, meant it wasn't bland. It was so dull that every bite was like staring at a blank wall. But sometimes, plain was what she needed. Not wanted, needed.
But Trix was so…good. It was sugary and not exactly good for her, but it was just so yummy. It hyped her up for anything coming at her; she could just fight it off with the Trix in her system. Like a superhero, like Super Girl or Cat Woman.
She had been listening to Cohen's comic book ramblings, and Zach's. Two total opposites shared one interest. Well, they weren't complete opposites, but pretty damn different.
Like how Trix and the lame-ass wheat stuff both came in boxes, they both had friendly faces on them, they both comforted Summer in someway, and they both were always there in her cabinet.
But, of course, she could only eat one this morning.
Summer sighed and decided that maybe she could just have a Pop Tart instead. Now, Blueberry or Chocolate?
Chocolate was good, but Blueberry was a lot healthier…
End
