Home No More

Kagome walked towards the well ready to go home. She had to be careful. 'Keep quiet caromed. C'mon. Almost there…'

SNAP

Kagome froze. Had he heard it? She waited for a few seconds. When no one showed up she sighed out of relief.

"Phew! That was a close one. I guess he's busy or somethin'." She walked a little more confidently towards the well. Suddenly there was a flash of red and she fell back.

"Ow. Hey what's the big idea!"

"Just where do you think you're going?" Inu Yasha asked.

"Home"

"Oh really? Not today you aren't"

"And I suppose you are gonna stop me? I don't think so. Osuwari." She said calmly. With that she walked over the twitching hanyou and hopped into the well.

'Geeze. What a control freak!' she thought. Kagome landed gently on the floor of the well. 'Ah. Home again!' Kagome climbed out of the well expecting to see her home, the Goshinboku and the rest of the family shrine. But that isn't what she saw. Not at all.

It was gone. All gone. There was nothing left of her home save ash and rubble. She walked around the burned out wasteland trying to take in what exactly had happened. She walked to where the living room had been. She dropped to her knees and picked something up out of the ash. It was a family picture. She looked at the smiling faces and began to worry. 'Are they okay? Did they make it out in time?' She pocketed the picture and stood looking around. She had to find out.

Kagome walked along the streets frightened and apprehensive. She walked by a store selling TV's. Something on the news caught her attention.

"…fire at the famous Higurashi shrine. Tragically, there were no survivors. The bodies of three family members were found but one remains missing. Investigators believe that the body was simply burned and the girl has been presumed dead. More on that later. And now for our next headliner story: Water-skiing squirrel begins snowboarding!"

Kagome was so shocked she couldn't even cry. For who-knows-how-long she wandered the streets of the city like a zombie, not thinking, not feeling. Eventually, she didn't know how, but she ended up back at the shrine. Or what had been the shrine. She dropped to the ground and finally burst into long anticipated tears. She crawled to where her brother's room had once been and found one of his scorched and burned toys. It was the teddy bear she gave to him on his fifth birthday. Hugging the bear to her chest she collapsed crying harder that ever. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" she said and blacked out.

Kagai: Oh that's so sad! tears up

Reikon: Aw, suck it up ya wussy.

Kuro: Ooooh. A cliffy. Whadda ya know?

Tasia: Yup. Well, R&R. Thanx for reading!
