Iruma was enjoying his life at school. He had made friends, and was learning to live his new life in the netherworld. He was happy, happier than he thought he would ever be a year ago. Right before the boy had met Blaze. He had just assumed his life would be the same as it always had been. Surviving day to day with no true hope for the future.
Then he met his mom and she showed him hope. She made him believe that the days of being cold and hungry were not how he should have lived. Then came Grandpa and Opera who gave both him and his mom a home and support network.
Everything he had, he owed to the three of them and as he looked around at his classmates, he couldn't help but feel like he had found a place to belong.
"Silence." Kalego's voice sounded more…hostile than normal as he greeted the Misfit Class in his usual manner. "You, cretins, have a new addition to the class. Starting from today, Professor Blaze will be joining me as an assistant teacher." The demon spoke through gritted teeth as if he were unhappy to say that.
Blaze? Iruma thought. That's a strange name for a teacher here. I didn't expect for someone to have mom's name. But his face went slack as the person of his thoughts strolled through the door.
"A female teacher!" The owl student cried happily.
"Wo, I didn't even know that Babyls did things like assistant teachers." Jazz looked to the side.
"She's so pretty and smells nice." Leid smiled.
The words were blurring together but the blue haired boy couldn't focus on that. He was in shock as no one had told him his mother would be teaching at the school. Let alone his class.
"Master Iruma, are you okay?" Asmodeus asked as he caught sight of the blue haired boy's shocked expression. Magenta eyes looked over the woman trying to find anything that would make his master freeze like that. Her hair was a darker pink than his but that shouldn't upset him. He had multiple piercings which was slightly intimidating but it also drew attention to her cropped ears. Any demon who was full hardy enough to crop their own ears clearly had a high pain tolerance especially to add so many piercings along with that.
Her expression gave nothing away as she stood surveying the room. The eyes of the class were slowly leaving her and looking on in a confused daze at the honor student who had taken many challenges but was struck frozen at the newest teacher.
"M-Mom?!" The boy finally cried out.
"MOM?!" The other students cried out looking between the two. Neither looked particularly similar at first glance. But if you looked at their blue eyes, eyes color that were a rare shade in the netherworld it began to make sense. Yes now that they were looking they could see it as more features began to look similar.
If she was Iruma's mom, that would mean that she was Lord Sullivan's daughter. A heavy silence fell over the class. Iruma had seemed approachable because of his kind attitude and carefree nature, but this woman did not. None of the students were sure how to address her as she stood there silent for a moment. "I believe it is class time, so will you all sit in your seats." The words were not spoken harshly or angrily like Kalego was prone to doing. They were simply just spoken in a way that was expected to be followed.
Each of the students sat, except for the bluette. No he was still stuck on the fact she was here.
"Iruma." She spoke a little sharper to snap the boy out of his conundrum. "Sit down, so we may start."
The boy gave a nod and was seated swiftly as a blush rose to his seat. He felt a little embarrassed that his mother was now his teacher. However this was a familiar pattern of life. Iruma often worked with her as someone who was his superior. This was not much different so they would fall into the same song and dance. Except this time, it wasn't just her supporting him and pushing him on. He had more people to fall back on.
Kalego handed the woman a black folder. "Take roll." There was a coldness to his tone that made the students worry what she could have possibly done to anger the dog demon. Though she said nothing, she simply took the book and called out each name on the list. She had roughly known who was who from Iruma's stories, though doing this would help her remember the faces.
Homeroom concluded as the Misfits were off to their next class and Kalego was ready to have a peaceful planning period. The woman who had been appointed his assistant was ushering the students from the room. If he waited around for her, he would most likely be trailing the brats to their next class.
"Professor Blaze." He called to her in a short voice. As much as it loathed him to spend any time with one of the Avernus, Sullivan's, bloodline he wasn't going to skirt his duties of shaping her into a teacher worthy of Babyls. "They are not cattle that need direction. Follow me to the teacher's lounge."
The woman looked at him puzzled but accepted the invitation. She had only stopped long enough to pat her son on the head before following the sullen demon. She wasn't sure how, though she was pretty sure that it was the fault of a certain bald demon, but the school halls were alight with ill concealed whispers about her. Some were outlandish tales of her returning for a battlefield and needing to adjust to 'normal' society so she took a teaching gig. Others were closer to the truth such as she was a single mother who was relying on her father, the chair demon to set her up a cozy life.
The words just seemed to add fuel to the hatred that the dog demon was currently stewing in. He was quick to throw open the doors to the lounge and find refuge aways from the rabble as he could. Inside, was just himself, his assistant, and the only other demon he could stand to face right now.
"Kalego," The large white haired Gargoyle waved, spotting the smaller pinkette behind him. "You must be the newest member to the facility. I am Balam Shichiro, and I teach the Mythical Creatures class."
"Yes, I am Blaze. It is a pleasure to meet you." The woman held out her hand to the demon, offering to shake his hand. "I hope that we will work well together in the future.
Once again the guard dog loathed to appreciate anything she did, but someone who respected Shichiro and did not flee from him was someone that he could put up with at the very least. The larger male seemed flustered, not used to meeting someone who didn't flee, let alone introduce themselves so politely.
Still he gripped her hand as softly as possible in his. The size of his swallowed hers and it made the demon a bit nervous that even being gentle he would hurt her. With the pleasantries out of the way, Blaze turned her gaze on the Misfit home room teacher. "So…"
"So what?" Kalego bristled at the expectant look on her face. He still had no idea why the chair demon had assigned her to him but he knew that he did not want to be part of the scheme.
For the first time that day, the woman's professional face vanished and was replaced with an indignant look. "Why did you call me here?"
Both males looked at one another. However, Kalego waved a hand to the fridge in the corner. "There are refreshments there. Grab a hell grey tea and sit down."
She picked up one of the cups of steaming tea on the counter, which she was sure the giant man had made just recently. Carrying it over to the side table she set it down with more force than necessary in front of the antagonistic teacher. The woman sat down staring intently at the man waiting, for what he did not know, but he hated it.
"Are you going to say something?" The woman asked.
"Say what?" Kalego said impatiently. "Just sit and relax until the next time we get the kids."
The woman growled at the man. "I think you have misunderstood. I am the assistant teacher to the Misfit Class, not Kalego's Secretary. That means I move with the students. I am not here to hold your hand and bring you tea. I was under the impression you were aware of these facts." Her eyes were like a deep void. He felt like if he made one false move he would be dragged to the abyss. Her hands were balled up so tightly they were white and hung at her side. "I thought you had asked me here to give me a rundown of their schedules or I don't know a syllabus for the year. Maybe even the units to be covered. But I see that I wasted my time." She got up and moved to the door. "I don't know what your problem is between you and my father but don't let it get in the way of my job again. The next time you snap at me, make it because I did something wrong. Or I will let you know where you can put that attitude of yours." The voice was icy and Kalego felt the shadows in the room tightening as if they were coiling to pull him down into the depths of Tarturas.
She changed her tone quickly, the tension in the room disappearing before waving at the other demon. "Have a good day Professor Balam."
The whip of her pink braid was the last sound she made as she left the room.
Blaze placed a hand on her face, still irritated. Day one, not even the full first day and she had already lost her temper on the demon. But he had pushed her to the point, not a single word since she was introduced as the assistant teacher… No he had been unhappy but that was not when the attitude started. It was when she brought up her son. He had looked at her and the bald demon with nothing short of horror and fury on his face.
She should have kept it inside, but something inside her had snapped. She did not want to sit and wait. She was tired of it. Her body trembled in anger. It was an unfortunate side effect of her anger.
She would have to sit the man down and talk to him about his attitude if it kept up. She did not have time for a man who was going to dog her out just for being a part of her family. Not ever again. Especially since this family had been so supportive and loving. Even if she had to endure the monumental wedge because of Opera.
Her blue eyes looked in front of her to the empty hallways. She had no idea where the Misfit class was, but that wasn't a big deal. "Ethereon, lead me to Iruma."
Kalego sat in the teacher's lounge for a few moments unmovingly. He had never felt a pressure like that. Not from Opera or Sullivan. The woman was an absolute Demon. Yes, she definitely was Sullivan's daughter.
"What are you going to do now?" Balam asked. The white haired demon had for a moment feared for his mate's life. There was no use in picking a fight with the woman when she could do that and was backed up by Sullivan and Opera. And he was sure that Opera would fight alongside her despite the three of them being a semi-pack since their school days.
"It will seem that I am in the wrong here." The purple haired demon hummed. He had not expected her to take her job as seriously as she had. Especially with the chair demon's work ethic and her son's efforts in class. He had judged her before he had even evaluated her. The fault was his. So it was up to him to compensate her. He wondered how grueling she would make it for him. Probably no worse than Sullivan had already done to him.
