Chapter Two: Swallowing the Hormone Bug
Kitty Pryde was lay facedown on her bed, holding a pillow over her ears. Unfortunately, that didn't manage to block out the rap music blasting from Ray's room.
"Someone pleeaaassseee turn it off," Kitty's wail was muffled by her bed sheets.
BaMf!
"Hey!" came Ray's dismayed shout as a certain someone's tail pressed the "off" button on his stereo.
"Ray," Kurt told him sternly, "I'm disappointed in you. If you had zhe gall to play music zhat loud, at least play zhe right music!"
Kitty's sigh of relief was stillborn as the rap was replaced by Led Zeppelin at the same volume.
"KURT!!!!"
Kitty and Kurt, can I see you both at cerebro please? Professor Xavier called them mentally.
The music stopped and Kitty looked up to see Kurt's worried face looking into her room.
"Zhe music vasn't zhat loud," he said.

Kitty slumped in the back seat of the Blackbird. They hadn't been in trouble. Professor X was sending them on a mission…just them and Scott. According to the professor, this was to test Scott as a team leader and them to see it they were ready for solo missions.
"Of course, ve're ready," Kurt had told Charles, "Ve tagged along vith Volverine in Canada….remember?"
And so, now they were waiting for Scott to arrive and give them the mission details.
"You don't seem exzited," Kurt commented from the pilot's seat.
"Should I be?" Kitty growled.
"Vell, usually, you're jumping up and down vhenever you get zhe chance to go on a mission."
"Yeah, but, Kurt…"
Kurt turned around in his seat, an uncharacteristically worried look on his fuzzy face,
"This time, we're not, like, going with a real instructor. We're going with Scott."
"Vell, technically he's an instructor now."
"I guess. But this mutant we're picking up, Professor Xavier said that she's going to be hard one. We've never gone without everyone else to back us up."
Jean was visiting her family and Rogue had finals. It was just them and Scott…somehow, it made Kitty uneasy.
"Okay, guys," Scott announced, racing up the ramp to his seat next to Kurt, "There's something you should know before we take off.'
"Great. More news," Kitty grumbled.
"Stop that. This mutant we'll be picking up…she's…ah…kind of pregnant."
"She's WHAT????" both younger mutants jumped out of their seats.
"…And running from someone…or something. Also, Kurt, we got report of another mutant activity going on in the same area. While Kitty and I look for this mutant, I want you to check it out."
"Yeah," Kurt nodded, wondering why Scott was choosing him to go off on his own.
"Apparently, there's some mutant asylum established in an old estate…problem is, it's not exactly authorized."
"So you vant me to check it out."
"Yeah."
Kurt didn't know whether to laugh or be offended. Why was he going to check out the asylum? Did Scott think he would fit in there…
No. Kurt wouldn't allow himself to think that way.
"So, let's do this thing," Scott gave Kurt the thumbs-up, but the fuzzy one could see right through that. Scott was just as nervous as they were.

Back in Virginia….
Duke Richard had a huge smile on his face as he left Séance's bar. The little twerp had really come in handy this time. Now that other one would be so much easier to catch…
…and that would make the boss very happy.
