My Dearest Luna,
Did you know that it would've been two years today? I actually remembered it this year, only to have you gone. I always remembered things with you around. Merlin, I miss you! I still can't believe that you are gone... Why did you have to die? Why you? I loved you! Why must the people I love always get hurt? The same happens to Harry, maybe we were born on an unlucky day?
Speaking of Harry, he defeated You-Know-Who shortly after you... Well, the fight went on for at least a day after you left us... Hogwarts was invaded, but Dumbledore andsome of the teachers stalled the Death Eaters long enough so that Harry could destroy Voldemort and trap the Death Eaters inside Hogwarts, unable to disapparate. All Death Eaters were tried and given the dementor's Kiss, the last one performed three days ago. There was a public ceremony for Harry and all the other war heros yesterday. Me a war hero, can you believe it? Gran would have been proud.
Hermione, Harry and Ron decided that they would help me research Thestrals. Hermione and Ron can see them now. Half the school can... Ginny will help us research after she graduates next year. We're all doing it in memory of you, Luna. It will almost be the same as that project dedicated to Sirius Black, only we won't be able to save you like they saved him. Oh, right, that happened four days ago... You weren't here...
If only I had protected you! I don't know how I'll survive, I've relied on you for so long. I miss the smell of your hair and how you wore your bottlecap necklace... I have it now, on my desk next to me. I can't bring myself to touch it just yet.
I've got to go, love. The preparations for Harry's private celebration party and our birthday party are starting. Harry wants me there to help him decide things. Can you believe that he's never had a birthday part? Well... I love you Luna. My thoughts are with you always.
