Rory tossed and turned for three hours before she gave in to the fact that she was not getting any sleep this night. She pushed off the covers and quietly, so as not to wake her mom, walked over to the small pile of gifts that she had gotten at the birthday party her grandma had thrown for her. Most of the presents were small, as not many of them knew more than her name, and some didn't even know that.
From what she could see, the only people that had felt confident enough to get her an actual gift were Madaline, Louise, and Paris, and she had already opened those gifts. Madaline and Louise had gotten her a bath set that smelled like peaches, and Paris had given her a leather bound day planner. The rest of the gifts had names on them that she recognized from class, but none that jumped out at her.
A tiny box seemed to jump out at her from the pile. When she looked at the tag, it simply had the word "Mary" written on it. She hesitantly picked up the box. Now that it was actually in her hands, she could tell that it was a jewelry box.
Inside was a gold, heart shapped necklace with the words, 'I love you' engraved on the front. On the back, it said, 'To Mary, Love Tristan'. Her heart fluttered for a tiny second, before she remided herself that she had Dean. Rory carefully opened the clasp, and put it around her neck.
