I was blissfully happy with Edward. He was my dream of a boy who would love me forever. There were little things of course that kept us from perfection. He would only barely kiss me and I wanted much, much more. Then there was his overprotectiveness. He kept me from seeing my best friend Jacob. He also didn't want me to see Jessica and Angela without him or Alice present.

Otherwise, Edward was perfect. He stayed with me every night he didn't have to feed. With Edward came his family. Esme was the perfect loving mother. Carlisle was the ideal compassionate father. He also doctored me through the inevitable bumps and bruises twisted ankles and occasional cuts. Emmett was the cool, funny, happy big brother you can't help but love. Rose was the ice queen of course, but we were slowly becoming more comfortable in each other's presence. Alice was the bubbly best friend. I just wish she took my wants and desires into account more often. And Jasper. I didn't really think of Jasper as a brother. He was a man not a boy and his words in the hotel stayed with me. He thought I was worth all the trouble I'd brought to them.

I was in that happy place between awake and asleep. I wasn't dreaming but I was not conscious either.

My thoughts were brought jarringly into focus by the text tone on my phone. I pulled my hand away from Edward, reached for my nightstand and grabbed my phone.

Edward growled but I paid him no mind. The message simply said, "Wake Up Bella."

That was when I noticed the small cut on my hand and the blood dripping. I stood up, clutching my phone. "Edward, get out," I yelled. I couldn't believe my perfect dream world had shattered so roughly. Edward had been drinking from me.

I quickly dialed my phone. The dizziness was almost overwhelming but I pushed through it. When I heard someone pick up I said, "It's Bella. Come here! Bring Carlisle! Please hurry."

By the time Carlisle and Jasper arrived, I was sitting in the bathroom with a washcloth putting pressure on the cut Edward had been feeding from. I was dizzy, weak and a little short of breath.

"Jasper, I'm sorry for the blood. I think it stopped. Edward was feeding from me. I got woke up tonight and caught him."

Carlisle flinched and Jasper growled.

"I don't know how much he took," I explained, "But I don't feel so well."

"I'll go get the supplies for a transfusion," Carlisle said, "Jasper..."

"I'm staying," Jasper said definitively.

"Very well, please carry her back into her room," Carlisle sighed, "I'll be right back."

"You never said who called you Bella," Jasper said as he carried me back into bed.

"I don't know. They didn't give a name," I explained.

"Can I see you're phone," Jasper asked patiently as he laid me down on the bed, careful to place my head fully on the pillow.

I gave him the phone and Jasper took it. "Thank you for calling me, Bella, for trusting me."

Jasper checked the message and then called the number the text had come from. Whoever was on the other line seemed to talk to him for a few minutes before I heard Jasper say, "Thank you," to whoever was on the other line. I looked at Jasper, waiting for an explanation but he only winked. I was feeling too poorly to ask questions so I lay and watched him.

Carlisle walked back in with his bag and Jasper said, "Bella, Carlisle is going to give you a blood transfusion to get you back in fighting shape. Would you like to sleep through it?"

"You'll stay?" I asked.

"I'll stay," Jasper confirmed and the lights went out.

Jasper

I knew this was going to be hard but I only had to contend with Carlisle's blood lust on top of my own. I inhaled deeply and held my breath as Carlisle sat up the IV and the blood. He also hooked her up to fluids. I watched every move he made and stayed at the window where I could get fresh air untainted by Bella's blood. Carlisle sat in the rocking chair, rocking gently.

The room was quiet as we both settled in for the wait. I wondered if Edward had intended for Bella to live through his feeding. This was going to be a long road. I wasn't even sure Bella would still want us around when she woke up. Her image of the perfect vampire family had been ripped away pretty harshly by Edward. What was going to change when she woke?

I allowed myself to slip into a meditative state by sampling and internalizing Bella's sleeping emotions. I was awake and aware, but my thoughts went pleasantly muzzy while she slept. I only allowed myself to do this with Bella. I'd never been close enough to another human to internalize their emotions in such a way. The Cullens stayed separate from humans even while we lived among them except for Bella and before the Cullens, I was never around humans except at mealtime.

When the blood was in Bella where it belonged, Carlisle took out the IV and said, "We need to wake her up Jasper, and see how she's feeling. It's a good thing Charlie's gone tonight."

I took away the lethargy I had been pumping into her and felt it as she came awake. "J-Jasper?" Bella asked fearfully.

"I'm right here Bella, wake up for me, Carlisle needs to see how you are after we gave you some blood," I explained.

Bella sat up slowly and looked around the room. "I'm still a little dizzy, but my breathing is fine. I just feel a little foggy-headed. Please, Carlisle and Jasper, don't leave me alone tonight. I'm afraid he'll come back."

"I have to go to the hospital," Carlisle started.

"I'll be staying," I reassured Bella. She sunk down in the bed with the strength of her relief.

"You need to eat Bella," Carlisle coached, "And I'd like you to stay awake for the next two hours to make sure you don't have a reaction to the blood. Jasper will call me if you get ill."

Carlisle grabbed his bag and made his way downstairs. They heard the door open and close.

"Jasper, thank you for coming so quickly when I called," Bella said.

I smiled at Bella. "No problem, Bella. Let's get you downstairs. Food will do you good. Shall I carry you again?"

"If you don't mind. I don't trust my legs to be strong yet." Bella admitted quietly.

"No need to be self-conscious Bella. I got you." Jasper said as he swept her into his arms and we went quickly down the stairs. "Now what can I get you to eat?"

Bella looked through the refrigerator. She got out a leftover slice of lasagna. Heating it up in the microwave she asked, "Who was on the other end when you called back the number that texted me?"

"I had hoped you wouldn't remember that for a while yet, but since you did, you know that I was in the vampire wars?" When Bella nodded I continued. "I made two friends while I was there. I was their sire. It appears that Peter knew that Edward had started feeding from you since you got back from Volterra and took it upon himself to stop it."

"Hm, so it was Peter who texted me to wake me up?" Bella asked.

"Yes, and he picked up the phone when I called back thinking he'd be explaining everything to you. It's been a long time since I've talked to Peter but he just knows sometimes when his help will be required. It is his gift. Thank you for reconnecting me with them." I explained. "They're on their way here to meet you and see me. So you've reconnected me with my two oldest friends. I must thank you. The Cullens don't like them because they feed from humans, but they are important to me."

"Will I be safe around them?" Bella asked tentatively.

"Oh yes, they focus on crime lords, drug dealers, and hardened criminals. You are perfectly safe with them." I admitted.

"Then I must thank them when they get here." Bella decided.

Bella ate quickly and quietly. She didn't ask another question until we were back up in her room.

"How am I going to keep Edward from coming back into my room? I thought that nothing could break my love for him, but feeding from me against my will has done it."

"We will hold a family meeting when you are strong again and express your wishes to the entire family."
