Wednesday Lamentation

They knew that they shouldn't be doing this, but they were doing it anyway.

Catherine couldn't help herself as she accepted Warrick's apology for his conduct toward her and the Mendoza case. She wanted to apologize too for pulling rank on him like she did, but he wouldn't allow her to as he pushed strands of her hair away from her face before caressing her cheeks.

She closed her eyes as the present faded away to nothing but them, realizing that whatever was going to happen between them in the future would not be by accident.

Even though it didn't look like it on the surface, Catherine and Warrick experienced a heartbreaking but temporary blow to whatever it was that they had at their minor clash. Perhaps the most ominous realization was that there would be more like it to come because of things that weren't being said or done.

Catherine opened her eyes and saw that Warrick had completely fallen.

"Don't put us through that again," she whispered just inches from his lips.

He shook his head before he withdrew, leaving her office.

Catherine sighed.

She always hated Wednesdays.
