The two were silent for a few moments. Spike stared at the full moon slowly rising in the sky.
"Oh, guess who else called today?" Dawn suddenly chimed. "Giles! Of course, he wished me a good birthday, but he had some great news to share."
"Oh really?" Spike wondered. "What's old Rupert been up to?"
"He didn't say. But he did say that Xander's going into surgery."
"How's that good news?"
Dawn couldn't retain her glee. "He's getting a new eye! And he'll be able to see with it! Isn't that awesome?"
"Wonderful news, love," Spike smiled before kissing her.
...
Dawn broke the kiss. "I thought you didn't like Xander."
"I don't. But you're happy about it, and a happy Nibblet makes me a happy demon."
"You haven't called me that in a long time," she sighed, letting Spike brush back her hair.
"I thought you didn't like it."
"I just pretended I didn't," she replied, "because I thought you'd use it more."
"So I can call you Nibblet again?"
"Duh."
"Today, Nibblet, is your birthday. And to celebrate, I give you this." He placed a claddaugh ring in her hand. "Happy Birthday, Nibblet."
Dawn thanked him with another kiss.
...
"Time to celebrate, love," Spike grinned devilishly as they returned inside the beach house.
Dawn looked at him curiously. "My birthday's pretty much over. Anyway, I think I'm all celebrated out."
"Pet, the party's just started," he laughed as he pulled her closer.
"Look, I know this is all romantic and stuff," she stated as she pushed him away. "But I didn't mean for you to get horny."
"Come on, it's your birthday. And I just gave you a bloody claddaugh ring."
Dawn crossed her arms. "I'm not ready, Spike."
"Sorry, Nibblet."
"No big. Can you pour me a beer?"
