"We need to take action, we can't just stand idly while the witches are after my child," Klaus yelled at his family when Freya suggested that he get some sleep.

"Witches are not so important right now, Klaus, nobody even knows that Hope is still alive," Elijah stated.

"You don't-"

"I'm more concerned about the prophecy." Elijah ended his train of thoughts before his brother could get the sentence out.

Klaus, clearly still angry, wanted to say something, when there was a loud banging on the front door of the compound.

"You stay here, I'll go look who it is," Klaus said, now with a calmer voice.

He went downstairs, using vampire speed and the second she came into view, he recognized the blond woman whom he didn't think he was ever gonna see again because he had promised to never visit her home town and clearly he never dreamed he would visit him in his city. But there she was, looking at him with a slight smile.

"Caroline! What a pleasant surprise!" Klaus walked toward her, arms ready to hug her when he stopped suddenly in front of her, "Am I allowed to hug you?".

He asked her that because they hadn't had the kind of relationship in the past where they hugged or really touched each other much.

Except that one day in the woods

"Yes, of course," Caroline grinned and Klaus took a step closer to her and just hugged her tightly.

Caroline had to admit, it felt really nice, being in this arms. But then a painful feeling came all over her and she broke the hug for a second and Klaus's face changed immediately when he say her face, pain evident in her eyes.

Klaus was totally shocked when Caroline put one hand to his head and caressed his hair for a few seconds before speaking with incredibly pained voice, "Klaus, I'm so sorry about your child. I don't even know what to say…".

Then she went on to hug him again, holding on to him tightly.

Realisation dawned on Klaus like a cold shower. Now everything made perfect sense. He wanted so much to tell her that his child was in fact very much alive and that she had nothing to feel sorry for. But it was safer for her to not know. So he wrapped his arms tighter around her and couldn't help but smile a little at the thought that she cared so much.

They stood there for a minute or two, before Klaus broke the hug and tried to put on his best poker face so she wouldn't suspect anything. He hated keeping things, especially so important things from her but now was not the time to talk about Hope. So he decided to change the subject.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that you are here but why are you here, considering how we left things the last time we saw each other?"

The memory of that day made them both grin at the same time, looking intensely at each other.

But Caroline got over it quickly as she said seriously, " Klaus I need your help."
