Back with the shorter chapters for now. Like has been kicking my ass lately and it's hard for me to write these days. I'm slowly working my way back into it.
On with the show!
Knock, knock!
"Coming!"
Knock, knock!
"Hold on!"
Knock, knock!
Mary opened the door in annoyance to find her friend, Amanda, standing on the other side.
"Why don't you just take the door off the hinges next time?" she teased.
"We don't have much time," Amanda said, rushing into the house and setting a bunch of materials on the living room couch. "The boys aren't here, right?"
Mary sighed in defeat. "Yeah, Sam's at camp and Dean's at John's."
Amanda snapped her fingers, breaking Mary out of her trance. "I know that sucks, but if we're going to do this, we got one shot, you know? Otherwise, we'll have to wait-"
"Another year," Mary interrupted. "I know."
Amanda smiled sympathetically and picked up the materials again. The two went into the kitchen, where Amanda spread out a map across the dining room table as Mary picked up a newspaper article. Twenty years ago, a serial killer by the name Mickey Miles lived in a trailer on the coast of a lake on the edge of Lawrence. It's rumored how many bodies he disposed of in that lake, but the important part is he got into a shootout with police on the property. After he was shot and died, cops found a young couple in an underground bunker not too far from the trailer. Every year, around the anniversary of his death, Mickey's spirit comes back in an attempt to take in another young couple. He hadn't had any luck until last year, when Mary and Amanda learned of this legend after another young couple was randomly found dead.
Amanda pointed to a couple places on the map. "Mickey was killed on the property. He ended up being cremated because no one wanted him to be buried here. Which leads me to think he's stuck here to something in that trailer."
"Is the trailer really still there?" Mary asked.
"Oh yeah. It's trashed and abandoned. I'm just surprised it's still standing."
"And no one will be heartbroken if we burn the whole thing?"
Amanda scoffed. "Probably not."
"Perfect."
Amanda rolled up the map and shoved all their necessary burning materials into a duffle Mary had pulled out of storage. "I swear, sometimes I'm convinced we're the only two hunters in this fucking state."
All Mary could do was laugh.
The phone rang at John's apartment. He quickly set his beer down at the coffee table, paused the television, and ran over to the landline in the kitchen. "Hello?"
"Hey!" Mary said on the other side. "I just got Dean's message on the machine. Is he okay? It sounded urgent."
John chuckled. "Oh yeah. He was nervous earlier about his date."
"Date?" Mary asked, very unhappy with this news.
"Yeah, he finally asked Stephanie out. Don't worry; I briefed him."
Mary raised an eyebrow. "You briefed him? On what?"
"You know... date things."
Mary sighed in annoyance. "John, Dean is too young to be dating."
"Oh calm down," John huffed. "He's in high school now! It's not like he and Stephanie are alone. I made sure they went out with a group."
Mary was heated. "You have him call me when he gets home," she said sternly before hanging up the phone.
"Yes ma'am!" John said, also in annoyance. He returned back to his beer and tv program. "Good thing we didn't have the sex talk."
The group of teens reached the campground. John only agreed to let Dean go out with friends, so he was currently with Stephanie, Tommy, Josh and his boys, and a couple of Stephanie's friends from church. The boys had already stripped down to their swim trunks and started going nuts in the lake. The girls all stayed back, afraid to ruin their hair. Dean stayed back with Stephanie, afraid to embarrass himself in front of her and her friends. He wasn't quite sure what love had felt like, but something felt like butterflies, so Dean ran with it.
The air was starting to get chilly and the sun was beginning to set. Tommy, being the boy scout he is, instructed the wet and cold teenagers on how to build a fire. It was small, but it somewhat did the trick.
"What do we do now?" one of Josh's boys asked.
"I have an idea," one of Stephanie's friends said. She smiled and reached for her bag, pulling out the biggest bottle of Jack Daniels Dean had ever seen. The girls cheered, like they'd done this before, and the boys just stared in amazement.
Another girl pulled out red solo cups and they started pouring and passing out drinks to the group.
Stephanie smiled as she handed a cup to Dean. "Come on, it's good!"
"Are you insane?"
"We do this all the time," Stephanie explained, "One drink won't kill you."
No, but my parents might.
"No one will ever know," Stephanie assured him. For a moment there, Dean believed she had read his mind.
Dean hesitated taking the cup from Stephanie. He turned around to face Tommy, who appeared to have the same thought process and facial expression as Dean.
"I'll do it if you will," Dean told him. He and Tommy made eye contact. The two tapped their cups together before taking a sip together. Ohhh it was gross. Dean thought he was going to throw up. Tommy started coughing from the burning sensation in his throat. No one else in the group seemed to notice. They were all too busy with their own drinks.
Amanda parked the car as the duo pulled up to the trailer.
"This it?" Mary asked.
"You see any other abandoned trailers out here?" Amanda teased.
Laughing, the two got out of the car. Amanda opened the trunk and the two began gathering the supplies they would need to burn the trailer down.
Suddenly, there was an abrupt noise, followed by the sound of laughter in the background. The duo froze and turned to face the direction the sound came from.
"Sounds like some kids messing around," Mary said.
"Let's hope they stay over there," Amanda added.
The two returned back to their arsenal and walked over to the trailer. The door creaked loudly as they opened it. They coughed, choking on the smell of mold and dust. Definitely the right trailer.
Twenty minutes later, they had dumped gasoline all over the inside and a salt circle around the outside, just in case Mickey decided to make an appearance ahead of his scheduled time.
They had just lit it up when they heard a commotion right behind them.
