Mass Effect: Frontier

It's not easy to blaze a trail when carefully-crafted plans go out the window. Yet, that is the exact situation the colonists aboard the Nexus find themselves in when their arrival at the Heleus Cluster is marred by unforeseen circumstances, challenging everything they know. The frontier and opportunities that is Andromeda remains open - if they are willing to rise to the occasion.

3. Smile

It's been seven days since our arrival, and initial deployment went surprisingly well. I know, I know, I should be less pessimistic. I'm guessing my time in the Verge fucked with my perception of things, always expecting the worst to come to pass.

The whole project - still hurts my head a little to even think about it. I mean, the size and scope of it, come on. I can't imagine someone funding an entire expedition, a space station, plus four or five Arks, and fitting them all with next-gen tech, but Garson did it. Even our jumpsuits and armours are fitted with stuff that I've only ever heard about when I was in the service.

And don't get me started on the weapons. The thermal clip system? Fuckin' brilliant.

Council meeting today. Garson brought up the topic of bureaucracy; she doesn't want anything like that happening in the Initiative. 'We're all in this together, all of us,' she said while looking each of us in the eye. 'See a need? Fill it.'

Reminded me of when I got Cat-Sixed from the marines, fucking Major Shitface and his bureaucratic bullshit. I don't regret that punch, though, you gotta stick up for your people. B Company, hoo-ah! Man, Jien Garson is alright in my book.

Garson's by far one of the most determined people I've met, in this galaxy or the last one. Heard some people say she's eccentric; guess you could call her that after spending her entire fortune for a vision that's so… out there, so unheard of. But hey, we're here, aren't we?

And who am I to judge? All of us, we're a little crazy in our own little way.

When Garson spoke, damn. I swear, in a different life, she might have made a good politician, or a military leader. She could have asked any one of us to jump into one of the Nexus' rear thrusters, and I'd have done it without a thought. So much feel-good going around - hell, I even smiled and shook hands with her at the end of the meeting!

I don't smile much - at least, that's what Kandros tells me. Reminder to self: whack that turian upside the head.

Speak of the devil, he's on the comm. I'll get back to this later tonight.
