The next day arrives before I know it. The older teens have gone to school. Well, they left the house. They might not actually be at school. Kol is outside in the backyard playing with Thor. Sage is upstairs feeding Freya. So, I get some peace and…. The doorbell rings. I sigh and go get it. I see two gentlemen. I'm guessing it's Finn and Elijah.
"Hello, are Kol and Rebekah here?" The one in a suit asks.
"Kol is in the yard and Rebekah is at school, but I'm guessing you're Finn and Elijah," I say. "Yes, I'm Elijah, this is my brother Finn," The one in the suit introduces.
"Come on in," I say moving out of the way then closing the door behind them when they enter.
Finn speaks a language I don't understand. I look at Elijah in confusion.
"He speaks only in Old Norse. We are hoping that we can teach him English while we are here," Elijah explains. "He says that you must be a powerful with to just let us in like that."
"No, I'm just a mom." I reply. Elijah translates to Finn. They both look at me in shock. I lead them both into the living room. "I do have someone eager to see you, upstairs. She is a little busy at the moment." I say with a smile to Finn, Elijah translates. He seems to be ready to play translator for Finn till we can start teaching him English.
"Sage?" He asks adding more Old Norse to the end.
"What have you done to her?" Elijah asks. Finn bolts upstairs. Elijah and I follow. We hear Finn slam Freya's door open. Sage is feeding Freya while sitting in the rocking chair.
"Finn?" she questions looking up. He goes over to her and gives her a kiss being careful of Freya.
"Who is this?" Finn asks Sage in Old Norse while Elijah whispers the translations to me as they happen.
"She's our niece, Freya. The woman you just got angry at is her mother," Sage tells him in Old Norse.
"But vampires can't have kids," he says.
"Apparently hybrids can. Klaus has a son and daughter." Sage explains.
"Where's the son?" Elijah asks from beside me in both Old Norse and English one after the other. I look at him and he looks worried.
"Thor? He's outside playing with Kol. He shows his magic sometimes, so Kol helps him with that," Sage says. "It's good to see you too Elijah. I'm glad you're all reunited. And for a good cause."
Thor and Freya need to go down for their naps." I butt in. "You all can talk in the living room."
Sage stands and puts Freya in her crib where she falls asleep quickly. She takes Finn's hand and takes him downstairs. I get Thor and Kol and take Thor to bed for his nap. I kiss him and tell him to have a good nap. I head downstairs to join the family. I join them in the living room, I sit down.
"I'm sorry about your wife and kids, Finn," I say. Sage translates for him.
"It has been a long time since I have thought of them and the good time we had. But it seems that's what I was gifted. I was gifted with the ability to help my brother raise his kids and to be able to be a fun uncle," Finn says with a smile in Old Norse while Elijah translates.
I tear up. "Thank you," I choke out.
"So, we have been brought here to protect Freya, and Thor?" Elijah questions.
"And James, yes. Mikael is in Mystic Falls. Elena is working on getting Klaus back, but I'm hoping we can be a head of their plan," I say.
"Who is James?" Elijah asks.
"James is our adopted nephew. He's a warlock. Kol is teaching him," Sage says, "He's in class right now, though."
Rebekah walks in. She runs over and hugs Finn and Elijah.
"I missed you, I'm so glad you're here." She says in Old Norse to them.
"What brings you here, Bekah?" Kol asks.
"They are planning for Mikael to do his show at the homecoming dance. I need to go get ready at the Salvatore house, but I wanted to let you know," Bekah says.
She leaves right after. We talk for a while longer. Thor runs downstairs screaming Daddy. His magic throws open the door. I run after him, but there in the doorway in Niklaus.
"Nik!" I exclaim. He opens his arms and I run into them.
"Hello Love, I missed you," he says.
"Me too daddy?" Thor pipes up in his arms.
"Yes, you too, Thor. And I missed Freya," he says. "Where is she?"
"She's sleeping. I should wake her up, now." I say.
He comes in behind me carrying Thor. He heads over to greet his family while I head upstairs to get Freya. I change her then bring her down.
"There's my Freya," Nik says standing up taking Freya in his free arm. I notice Kol sneakily take a picture.
"I never thought I would see Niklaus holding two kids," Elijah says.
"You're right," Finn agrees in Old Norse.
"Yeah, yeah. Big bad wolf loves his kids," Klaus says.
"So, what's the plan?" I ask.
"I moved the dance Tyler's house. We have all been invited in. We will all make our way there. I will enter into sight later. Tyra, you will stay near Tyler.," he tells me. "Kol, you have James. We will have Thor run to Mikael."
"What?!" I interrupt Nik.
"Don't worry James has been working on teleportation with Kol there coaching him he will be able to get away. It will make Mikael cocky," he explains comforting me.
"Alright, if any of my babies get, I will tear you apart," I threaten.
"I will allow you to stake me with a white oak stake if he gets hurt," Nik says. "Finn, I want you to hold, Freya." He switched to Old Norse for Finn to understand.
"Got it. I won't let anyone hurt her or go near her," Finn vows in Old Norse.
We all head out to Tyler's house. I hand Freya off to Finn and he walks off. I try to spot Rebekah, but I can't.
"Hey Thor, hey Tyra," Tyler says. "I heard we are to hang out and that my sire bond was transferred to you."
"Yeah, are you more comfortable with that?" I ask concerned.
"I like it a lot more the Klaus." He says. "So, it's going down tonight?"
"Yes, it is," I say holding Thor's hand.
Tyler carries a box of beer. I follow him. Stefan makes his way through the crowd.
"Hey Stefan! What's up?" Tyler asks.
"Hey Tyler. Nice party you've got going on," Stefan says.
"Thanks, but I'm not the one throwing it. I'm just doing what Klaus wants." Tyler lies pretending to be Klaus's slave. Klaus agreed to not order him about. So, he asked Tyler for this favour.
"What do you mean?" Stefan asks.
"It's not a party, man. It's a wake," Tyler says.
Klaus gets on stage to announce his return.
"Good evening, everyone! I wanna than you for being here with me to celebrate! It's been a long time coming!" Klaus announces.
I join Nik like planed when he steps off the stage.
"Quite the homecoming," Stefan greets.
"I've been planning my father's funeral for a thousand years. Granted, in no version of it were any of these people invited, but you get the idea." Nik says.
Thor starts to squirm trying to get his hand out of mine. Nik picks him up. We don't want him running too soon.
"So, what now? Stop running?" Stefan asks.
"Hm-now I reunite my family," Nik tells him acting like they are still in coffins.
"Your family, you mean the people you cart around in caskets?" Stefan asks.
I give a fake look of confusion to Nik.
"None of that matters anymore. Mikael is gone. Bygones will be bygones. Seems the homecoming queen still walks among the living which leads me to believe Rebekah isn't here… Where is she?" Nik observes. I can now tell for sure that she was daggered.
"I have no idea. I thought she was coming with Matt," Stefan says.
If he is saying this, he wasn't there when she was daggered, nor did he dagger her. He won't be able to lie to Nik with the compulsion.
"Oh, be honest now. Stefan, where is my sister?" Nik says seeing what I was.
"I said I have no idea. How would you like me to take you to your father?" Stefan asks.
"Well, it wouldn.t be a party without the guest of honour, would it? Bring him to me," Nik tell him. Wanting the home advantage throwing a wrench in their plans.
"All right. Perhaps there is something in it for me? My freedom from your compulsion?" Stefan bargains.
"Oh, you want your freedom. Well, once he is dead and his weapon destroyed. You'll have your freedom. It'll be my pleasure to give it back," Nik offers him. Stefan leaves. Tyler walks up to us.
"My mom would seriously freak if she saw all these people here," Tyler says.
"Your mom won't be a problem. Tyra sent her on a spa get away for the weekend. Told her that being mayor after her husband died, she deserves some pampering. Tyra was left in charge of you while she's gone." Nik informs him.
"You did?" Tyler asks turning to me.
"Yeah, she did. I would also send Caroline home. You don't want her to get hurt," he offers.
"How are all these other people here? I have never seen half of these people in my life," Tyler asks.
"These are some of the wolves who wanted to become hybrids. They are protection for Tyra and the kids." He explains.
"Tyra, can you help me get Caroline home?" Tyler asks me.
I look up at Nik and he nods. Tyler and I go find Caroline.
"Thanks for protecting my mom and Caroline," he thanks.
"It's not a problem. I did promise to look after you when your sire bond was transferred to me. Besides I used Nik's money to pay for your mom's trip." I say chuckling. We find Caroline and walk up to her.
"Caroline, you need to leave now," Tyler says. Caroline looks upset.
"Why?" She asks.
"It's unsafe. I don't want you to get hurt in the crossfire." Tyler tells her.
"So, your still being Klaus's lacky," Caroline accuses.
"No, Tyler is doing Nik a favour and in turn Nik gave him the heads up to save your life," I jump in.
"Oh, so it wasn't an order?" She asks suspiciously.
"No, this was full consent." I reply. Tyler nods in agreement. "Tyler can explain more details later. He will take you home, then he has to come back,"
"Alright, but I'm heading to your house. I want full disclosure." She says.
"Alright, here's the house key," I say handing her my keys.
I head back to Nik.
"She gone?" he wonders.
"She went back to my place," I say.
"I'm going to build a bigger house and we can move in there," he says.
"Why do we need a bigger house?" I ask.
"To fit all the strays your picking up," he chuckles jokingly.
"Alright, alright. You picked up some too," I say laughing with him. Walks up to us.
"Where's your date?" Nik asks
"Getting me a drink," she says. Nik offers her politely. She rejects it.
"Well, seems I have you to thank for Mikael's demise," Nik says.
"He came at me. I didn't have a choice." She replies.
"Still, I'm impressed. It's not easy for a human to dagger an original," Nik taunts her.
"It wasn't the first time," she says. I perk up. That sounded like a lie. Is she Elena? Maybe that's Katherine.
"Right, Elijah. You seem nervous." Nik observes. Maybe he's picking up what I'm picking up.
"I'm not nervous. I just don't like you," she says.
"Let's get straight to the point then, shall I? People have been after me for one thousand years. And I am always one step ahead. So, whatever it is you're thinking of trying, go for it, give it your best shot. You won't succeed." He threatens.
We walk away so he can play ping pong. He puts Thor on the ground letting him walk. I watch Thor walk off. My heart hurts. I give Nik a crushed look.
"It will be okay," Nik reassures me.
"You have a visitor," the hybrid says.
"Well, Mindy tell my visitor, I'm on the brink of victory here," Nik says.
"He said his name is Mikael," Mindy informs him.
"Then we mustn't keep him waiting. Move everyone out back. I'm gonna have a little chat with my dad. Tony, you know what to do," Nik orders or fake orders. All the hybrids are in on the charade. Nik and I go to the front door and Mikael is in the doorway. I shiver.
"Hello, Niklaus." Mikael greets.
"Hello Mikael. Why don't you come in? Oh, that's right, I forgot you can't," Nik jokes laughing.
"Or you can come outside if you want," Mikael offers.
"Or I could watch my Hybrids tear you limb from limb," Nik offers back a group of Hybrids gather behind Mikael.
"They can't kill me," Mikael tells him.
"True. But it'll make a hell of a party game. All I have to do is rub these two fingers together and they'll pounce," Nik explains.
"The big bad wolf. You haven't changed. Still hiding behind your playthings like a coward. You only forget. They may be sired by you, but they are still part vampire. And they can be compelled by me." Mikael taunts. Mindy walks up behind Mikael and pushes Thor to Mikael. I feel Nik tense beside me. "Come out and face me, Niklaus or your son dies."
"Daddy!" Thor cries out fighting against Mikael. I cringe praying he will be okay.
"So can you live forever with no one at your side? Nobody cares about you anymore, boy! What do you have other than those whose loyalty you forced? No one. No one." Mikael says bullying him more.
"He will have his kids and myself." I say trying to buy time for James. "He is a better father then you. Thor thinks the world of his dad. You heard him call out; it was to his dad. No one else. His dad doesn't threaten him or beat him. Yes, Thor may seem weak to you, but he is in fact strong. Nik knows that Thor will get stronger looking up to his dad, not fearing him."
"Thor also knows his family will protect him. Just as his big brother just did. You will never get your hands on Thor," Nik tell him as Thor appears beside Nik. Disappearing from Mikael's hands. Thor hugs hi dad's legs. Nik lifts him up and gives give him a big hug.
"How did you do that? Only Kol knows that spell," Mikael says.
"Hello, Father. You think I would let my nephew suffer," Kol says walking into Mikael's view. He takes Thor into his arms and holds him close.
"But Klaus let you suffer in a box," Mikael says taken off guard.
"Because of you hunting us. He realized with Tyra's help his mistake. He is doing everything he can to make it better. Tyra and his kids have changed him. She taught him to love unconditionally. She is always here with a hug, a smile, and a listening ear. Thor is always here to play. He doesn't care what you've done. Just that you will play with him. Freya, she always is there with a smile. While you hold her she looks at you like you hold all the answers. None of them judging. Tyra has opened her hoe to my siblings and I. She also opened her home to the teens in this town, offering them. Whatever they need. That's what a parent should do. Not hunt their children down. Tyra is a parent. Niklaus is a parent. You are a monster." Kol tells Mikael.
Damon jumps on Nik trying to stake him. Elijah pulls me out of the way. Tyler is back and stands in front of me. Elijah goes to help Nik. Stefan knocks Damon off Nik and holds him down.
"What are you doing?" Damon asks.
Nik takes the stake and him and Elijah go to stake him. Finn steps into his view holding Freya.
"Elijah? Finn?" Mikael asks shocked.
"Hello Father," Elijah greets.
"Good-bye father," Finn says in Old Norse.
Nik drives the stake through Mikael's heart. While Elijah holds him in place. Mikael bursts into flames and dies.
"What the hell did you do?" Damon asks.
"He's earned his freedom," Nik explains to Damon. Stefan stands to face Nik "Thank you my friend. You no longer have to do as I say. You're free." He compels. Stefan leaves, Nik comes over to Tyler and I. Kol and Finn bring our kids. Elijah joins us. "Thank you for all your help protecting my mate and kids."
"We should head back to the house to explain everything to Caroline." I tell then as James joins us.
Nik gives James a hug. James looks shocked for a second then hugs him back. We all walk back to the house.
