Mulder's Final Thoughts.

The Setting.

It's the day after 'The End'. Mulder has awoken first and is now standing at the window, looking through the gaps in the blind at the bright early morning sunshine outside, thinking.

'What the hell do I do now? Where do we go, Mexico? Further south maybe, Brazil or Argentina? This was so much easier last year. It didn't matter then, I was on my own. Any hardships I caused, I caused to me and me only.'

Turns to Scully, asleep on the bed.

'It's weird! Last year all I wanted was to have you with me. Now you're here and I don't know what to do. You don't know what it's like Scully! Constantly on the move, never daring to stay in one place in case you stay for too long, trying to cover you're tracks all the time, living one day at a time because it's too dangerous to look any further forward. You've no idea what you've let yourself in for, what I've got you into. I'm so sorry Scully!'

Turns to the window.

'Think dammit think!'

Turns back to Scully.

'I'm not having you live like that! You deserve so much more than that Scully, and I'll be damned if they're going to take that away from you as well. They can take what they want from me, but not from you. They've had all they are going to get from you.'

Turns back to the window.

'England! We'll go to England. I still know a few people around Cambridge. James and Sharon in Ely, Steve and Gail in St. Ives. Yeah, Steve will help us for sure, and plenty of room in that big old house of his. At least I'll be able to give us a life out there. At least we'll be able to look to the future instead of looking behind our backs all the time. There's even a USAF base out there, so we won't stick out all that much.'

Turns at the sound of Scully stirring.

'I'm truly sorry, Dana.'
