Disclaimer
No, I don't own Full Metal Alchemist, also known as Hagaren no Renkinjutsushi or Hagaren no or Fullmetal Alchemist. I do own the plot of this drabble, which was originally done as a challenge, which translates to 'it sucks' in layman's terms. In fact, it used to be a nice and tidy 189 words because it had to be under 200 for me to enter. :-P Be happy that I expanded it. It works better that way.
(What's up with this stupid design view?)
On with the 'fic!

Falling
Winry knew Ed was irritable because he was recovering from nerve connections with his automail, which meant she was forcing milk into him as well. But she was asking him a question--a personal question--nonetheless. Every day, every minute she requested the same thing. Ed hated it; she could tell by his pained golden eyes--but she couldn't help but ask.
"Edo-kun . . . you were frightened." That was true. Ed whispered a lot of things when he thought he was alone with his throbbing arm. Even so, berating himself about a nightmare was uncommon for him. A dream about falling, too . . . Why would he be angry with himself for that?
"It was only a dream."
The way he didn't talk about himself made her feel bad, like she was burdening him, when she was honestly trying to help him. In fact, now he was sighing like a load was on his back. He was rubbing his neck as if it hurt from the weight, and his eyes were drawn to his boots.
"Don't be worried, Winry." He halted, his tone strengthening. "It only frightened me, nothing more. Don't concern yourself."
"Having a nightmare isn't a personal weakness . . . I have dreams similar to that all the time."
He turned his face into the pillow. " . . . I can't afford to be frightened like I was when I woke up."
Her mouth turned downward. "Baka, you know that's not true."
But even as she turned to leave, she could feel her own doubt, rising within her.

Author's Notes
I'm not sure of what I think of this 'fic. As I mentioned before, this was written on a challenge in the community 'FMA 100,' in which one is supposed to write a 100-200 word drabble on a subject chosen by the moderator. This one was 'Falling,' and I had intended it to be much more complicated than it actually ended up being. (Hey . . . can't do much with two hundred words.) In any case, reviews are nice but not necessary.
