A month had gone by. It was Friday, December 17, and things had gone relatively well for Danny. There had only been a couple ghost attacks since his run in with Vlad, and it was just the Box Ghost trying to exact his "revenge" on Danny, only to be easily thwarted by the ghost boy. Not only that, things had continued to get better and better between him and Sabrina.
He couldn't wait for tomorrow, Hilda and Zelda were taking him and Sabrina inner tubing and out for breakfast and lunch, he just had to get through one more school day, hopefully it went well. He got up, took a shower, got dressed, and headed downstairs for breakfast. He was about to pour himself a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch when Maddie walked in the kitchen.
"Danny, I just got off the phone with your Uncle Randy. He and your Aunt Sharon are getting a divorce, and he and your cousin Stan are going to be living here temporarily until he can get back on his feet. Your cousin Shelley will be staying with Sharon. I'm checking you out of school a little early so we can pick them up at the airport." She explained.
Danny and Stan had a close relationship, the two kept in touch over the years, based on what Stan told him, things between Randy and Sharon had been going downhill for quite some time, due to Randy's alcoholism, immaturity and stupidity. But Danny didn't think they were at a point where they'd get divorced yet. And he certainly didn't expect for them to move in when it finally came to that.
This was not good. He was happy to have Stan live with them but not his Uncle Randy. Not even Hilda and Zelda would be open minded enough to accept Randy's idiocy, he thought. He'd hoped that Randy could stay far removed from the Spellman's, and he hoped he could spend the day with them tomorrow like they'd planned. But he didn't think this was a good time to bring that up. "Okay." Danny said.
"Thanks, sweetie. I know this is a big adjustment, but it's temporary. It'll just be until your Uncle Randy is able to get back on his feet. His job is transferring to the nearby geology plant but that should take a couple weeks, he's getting by on money from his paid time off in the meantime." Maddie said. Danny fixed himself a bowl of cereal and ate it, feeling glum. "Great, just great!" He thought to himself sarcastically. Afterwards he met up with Sabrina to walk to school.
"Hey." she smiled. "Hey." He smiled back. She could tell something was wrong. "You okay?" she asked. Danny sighed. "I have some bad news. My Aunt Sharon and Uncle Randy are getting a divorce, my cousin Shelley is staying with my Aunt Sharon and my cousin Stan and Uncle Randy are staying with us until Uncle Randy can get back on his feet. I'm checking out of school a little early so we can pick them up at the airport. They're coming from South Park, Colorado." Danny said.
"Okay, so what's the problem?" Sabrina asked. "My Uncle Randy is an idiot. He makes my dad look like a doctor!" Danny told her. "Wow!" Sabrina said in shock. Jack was a good guy, but he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. "Yeah, and he's also an alcoholic. One year for Thanksgiving he got so drunk he stuffed his head in the turkey. He got sick once we finally got it off. It ruined the turkey." He said. Sabrina's eyes widened in shock.
"And that was five years ago. Apparently it's only gotten worse since then. Stan said he used to get into fights with other drunk dad's at his little league games. It's why my Aunt Sharon is divorcing him. I'm just hoping my mom still lets me spend tomorrow with you guys." Danny said. "Well, let me know if you're able to. We'd love for you to join us. I'm sure I could even talk Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda into letting Stan come with us so that he doesn't feel left out." Sabrina offered. "Wow, really? Thanks Sabrina!" Danny said.
"No problem. I'm sure they won't mind, plus I think he could use a good time. Divorce is never easy on a kid. What's he like, by the way? Is he nice?" Sabrina asked. "He is. He's a little reserved, but he's really mature for his age. He's only ten but he acts twenty five. He and I talk quite often, we've kept in touch over the years. Initially it was through emails, because he had a Facebook that his friends set up for him and he said it was a nightmare, but he set another one up himself and says it's not as bad. It's funny, everyone in our family says we look alike, and I'm a couple years older than he is and he looks like I did when I was his age." Danny said.
"Well, if that's true, then I'm sure he's a cute kid." Sabrina thought. She refrained from saying it out loud though.
