Harry stroled along the Hogwarts grounds, looking at all of the scenery, not wanting to miss anything. It was the last day of his seventh year at Hogwarts and he wanted to cherish every minute of it. Ron and Hermione had stayed in the common room, Harry assumed they wanted to give him some time alone. He didn't mind. It was peaceful, being alone, not that he would have minded having company. He looked up at the sky. It was near evening. He didn't have a lot of time left but he meant to savor every minute of what he did have. The sky was beautiful. The castle was beautiful. He would miss Hogwarts, and his friends.
"What are you doing out here, Potter?" Harry had been so absorbed in his own thoughts that he had failed to notice anyone else's presence. He turned to see none other than Draco Malfoy.
"Taking a last good look at Hogwarts." He replied, looking up at the huge castle. "What are you doing out here?"
"Looking for my prefect badge. I think I must've lost it out here somewhere." Draco's eyes scanned the ground.
"I havn't seen it."
"Well, that's nice to know" Said Draco, scowling.
"I'm just trying to help, Malfoy." Replied Harry rather coldly. The two stood in silence for a while, Draco looking down at the grounds and Harry looking anywhere but at Draco. Finally, once Harry assumed that nothing more was going to be said, he sighed and turned to walk away.
It only took a few moments for Harry to hear the rustle of grass behind him again. "Are you following me?"
"No. Well, yes but not really. I just figured you've been all over the grounds already and you would've seen it anywhere else. You have a problem with that?"
"No." said Harry, although he really wished to be alone.
For a while they walked in silence, only broken by Draco occasionally picking up a rock and tossing it up in the air before throwing it towards the dark lake.
"Are you going to try for Quidditch?" Draco finally broke the silence. Harry was startled, and astounded that Draco was actually making normal conversation.
"Oh...er...I'm not sure." Harry waited for the rude remark in Draco's reply.
"You're good." Harry's mouth nearly dropped open in shock. "But, I'm better." Now that was more like Draco. But even so, Harry took that as a complement and smiled.
They walked for a while more in silence, but it was a different sort of silence than before. There was a light clink sound and they both looked down. "My badge!" said Draco as he bent down to retrieve his lost item from under his shoe. He smiled nervously at Harry and turned to leave.
"Hope to see you later, Draco. Take care." Draco turned and smiled.
"You too, Harry." And with that, he turned and walked back up to the castle. Harry watched him leave for a moment, before turning back to admire the scenery once more.
