Two figures stood in the shadows of a New York subway. Both were dressed in dark clothes, one was a tall, well-built man, the other a normal-looking woman. A large sleek black suitcase stood between them. A lone man detached from the crowd, scanning the area quickly, before spotting the two. He made his way over there, glancing over his shoulder every few steps as if to make sure no one noticed him. But with how busy the tunnel was, he was of no importance to the hoards of people wrapped up in their own business. He approached the two and acted as if they were not there. He looked around again, before muttering under his breath, "You here for Lord Morgath?" The female nodded her brown hair, bouncing slightly at the movement, touching her shoulders briefly, before she angled it over her face again, hiding her sharp grey eyes. "Hail Master Morgath, you are here for the package yes?" She spoke softly, her accent slipping through, but not enough to tell exactly where it was from. The man nodded, straightening out his coat to hide the movement of handing the woman a USB drive. "Yes, and he is here for?" He gestured to the man beside her as she pocketed the drive. "Oh." She laughed and touched her wristwatch. The man flickered briefly, showing a drone inside the image. The man startled slightly, but recovered his wits within a second. "Merely, an image, an illusion if you will." The man nodded and reached for the case. The woman put her hand out, stopping him for a moment. "The password is SFFH, your mission instructions are inside." Her watch beeped, and she pulled away, walking father into the shadows. Before pausing, "You must not fail this, or our deal will be revoked". "Affirmative. I have to make hast now." He grabbed the case and pulled it after him as he turned to go into the side tunnels. A shadow dropped from the roof above, landing silently behind the woman, a fash of pink and green she crumpled to the ground with a full thud, boneless. The man turned at the sound of her collapse, only to get a steel-toed foot to the face, a glow of pink, and he had joined her on the floor. The figure stood eyeing his prey for a moment, not moving when a bird landed on his shoulder. He then thew a disk at the case, and it stuck to the side, flashing twice before lights flicked over the case. Now satisfied, he turned and eyed his victims a minute, before looking around as if searching for something. Spotting a metal bench against the wall behind them, he dragged the bodies over to it, chosen for it was bolted to the floor. He handcuffed them to the bench and left, with the case, becoming nothing more than a shadow again once he reached the side tunnels. A few minutes later, a tall thin man dressed sharply in a bow tie arrived weaving through the crowds and looked over the area, before spotting the man and woman. He sighed and touched the comm in his ear. "The bird arrived first." Three years earlier Walter tried to calm his fast-beating heart as he approached the head office door. He nocked gently, taking a deep breath as he did so, before startling at the fast reply of, "Enter." He tugged fitfully on his watch as the door opened slowly and he was ushered in. "You called for me Mam?" He asked, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. The head Lady sighed and rubbed her nose, "Agent Sterling paged in a complaint about you, it was for altering with his gadgets. Is this true?" Walter nodded, "Yes, mam." She started at him, looking him over, before questioning again, "Why?" Walter bit his lower lip and stared at his feet. "Well, I know I have a lot to offer to this agency, I was hoping I could prove that." The head sighed again. "You did this without clearance, and I'm afraid the council and I do not think you have what it takes." Walter's head shot up, eyes widening. "Please, mam. Just give me another chance. I will try harder to do better, just please." "I'm sorry, but this is an order. Gather your personal equipment and turn in your ID card at the desk. You have an hour, nothing more." "Yes, mam." He whispered, bitting his lip again. Walter then turned and left, his feet taking him back to his former lab by memory. Not without almost knocking several things over in his hast. Once the door closed behind him, he paused, bracing himself before starting to pack. He was lifting one of the notebooks off the desk when a picture fell from its pages to the floor. Placing the notebook in his backpack, he picked up the picture gently. It was one of the last ones he had with his mother. Walter sighed, eyes watering, tracing a finger over her face. When a thought hit him. He smiled and tucked the picture in his pocket, wiping the tears off his face as he did so. No one could stop him on his mission to make the world a better place. Even if he had to take extreme measures on his own. With new determination, he shouldered his bag and walked right out, leaving this in his past and only looking to the future. A/N 2020. Hey guys, some of you asked why I have such short chapters. Well, here is the reason. I have limited time on our family computer, so I write as much as possible, then post. Also, I get really busy in the summer and often am not home at all. Another thing is that I focus mostly on an actual book I'm writing, not just fan fiction. PS. If you have read the "Rangers Apprentice", then you will get it, but I do recommend it. It's an amazing book series if you are looking for something new. Oh SFFH Spidey fans will get this. A/N 2022. So sorry for taking so long, I am getting back into the story again. But I will first edit the chapters here as I write the new one. I should have it out by the end of the week.
