A/N: First fanfic! hoping to update every week, but we'll see how it goes
Evening was beginning to shift into a twilight sky above the bustling city of Municiberg, the streets filling with cars on their way home from the day shift of work. One of these cars was driven by a beautiful young woman sporting a primmed and pressed silken white dress. She maneuvered easily through the roadways, eager to get to her destination. Today would be a rather life-changing event, and she looked forward to what was to come. Suddenly, a bulletin alert came on the radio. She turned up the volume to listen.
"We interrupt for an important bulletin!" The woman listened closely for details. "A high-speed car chase between police and gunmen was in progress on San Pablo Boulevard."
Without hesitation, the woman punched a button on the dash. The radio immediately converted into an electronic aerial map. The map's sophisticated radar system locked on two red dots speeding through the city. "Yeah, I've got time," the woman decided, giving her watch a glance. She could still make her appointment.
She hit another button, marked AUTODRIVE, and the car began to drive itself. Then she typed MERGE PURSUIT into the controls. The autodrive immediately began to plot a course to intercept the trouble.
Next, the seat backs of the car snapped down flat. Two steel bands suddenly wrapped around the woman's waist and slid over her body in opposing directions, removing her clothes to reveal a slick blue Super suit underneath. She wore a dark mask over her eyes.
The seat backs returned to an upright position. The woman in the driver's seat was none other than Miss Incredible. And she was ready for action!
Miss Incredible smiled as her vehicle converted into a sleek futuristic Incredibile. As she hit the turbo button, afterburners flamed and the car rocketed down the street.
Then something caught her eye.
An elderly gray-haired man was frantically waving at her and pointing at a tree. Miss Incredible hit the brakes, reverse retro-thrusters fired, and the Incredibile stopped on a dime. A darkly tinted window slid down. "What is it, sir?"
"It's my wife's cat, Snickers!" he explained. "She won't come down!"
Miss Incredible glanced up and spotted Snickers, a black and white tabby who was clingling stubbornly to a high branch in the tree above their heads. She then looked at the dashboard screen on the Incredibile. The red dots from the car chase were heading much closer, and a blazing car-to-car gun battle would tear its way down the very street they were in within moments.
She then turned back and addressed the man. "I suggest you stand clear. There could be trouble."
In one sweeping motion, Miss Incredible tore the enormous tree out of the ground and began to try and shake Snickers off the tree and into the man's outstretched arms. The cat refused to let go, her claws practically wedged into the bark. Suddenly, Miss Incredible could hear the screech of tires turn the corner into the street and the headlights of two oncoming vehicles were coming in, fast! Crunched for time, Miss Incredible began to shake a little more roughly, the cat swinging up and down like a ragdoll until it finally dislodged. She then swung the whole tree so that it landed with a loud CRASH onto the road, the getaway car smashing into it and stopping the criminals in their tracks.
As she carefully replanted the tree, Miss Incredible accepted the usual thanks from the police. "Thanks Miss Incredible! You've done it again!" One officer said. "Yeah!" The other piped in, "you're the best!"
"No, no, it's all good. Just here to help!" she said, giving them each a nod. "Officers, sir… Snickers." She was about to leave the scene when the radio began to blare, "Tour bus robbery in the vicinity of Howard and Chase streets."
Miss Incredible looked at her watch again. I've still got time, she thought, deciding to check out the action. She jumped back into the Incredibile, but just before she pulled out, someone in the car said, "Cool! Ready for takeoff!"
Miss Incredible turned to find a pudgy kid sitting in the passenger seat of the Incredibile.
"Who are you?" Miss Incredible asked.
"I'm Incredigirl!" the kid answered enthusiastically.
"What? No…" Miss Incredible said as she looked her over. The red-headed kid was wearing a blue paper mask and a homemade Super suit composed from an old T-shirt and a blanket cape. Miss Incredible struggled a little to remember the girl's name.
"Bea… Bella...Becca?" she finally asked after a few tries.
Becca, the president of the Miss Incredible Fan Club, answered with a pout and crossed her arms.. "My name is INCREDIGIRL!"
"Look," Miss Incredible said, trying to monitor her patience, "I've stood for every photo, signed every scrap of paper, but this really is a bit much!"
But Becca wasn't listening. "You don't have to worry about training me," she answered quickly, a hopeful look in her blue eyes. "I know all your moves, your favorite catchphrases, your crime-fighting style, and...well...everything!" The volume of Becca's voice suddenly jumped an octave. "I'm your number-one fan!" she yelled.
Suddenly, the door of the Incredibile whooshed open, ejecting a very angry Incredigirl onto the side of the road.
"Hey, wait!" she called out, but by that time Miss Incredible had already hit the afterburners and peeled out of the scene.
