Shoko couldn't believe Gojo's students brought a random woman into her office and explained the whole situation to you. She rubbed her temples, looking at your terrible condition.
"Geez, I wondered what happened to her? But I'll do my job… I don't want to know how I would explain this to others who see her on campus." The thought of it stressed Shoko out, however, there's nothing she could do to change it.
She used her reverse cursed technique and healed what's been broken. Then she proceeded to strip you naked from your bloody clothes until she stopped midway when her eyes saw old scars on your back, stomach, and back of the thighs. "What in the world…?" Shoko knew she had seen worse working as a doctor, but analyzing the scars she could tell it was never treated and possibly what age she received it too. "Whoever did this is evil and ruthless…"
Then Shoko gave you a quick bath because you reeked and she didn't want to think about what happened to you. Also, Shoko didn't want the lingering smell to last as long as you're dirty and unconscious. Gently scrubbing the dried blood off your face, Shoko's brows furrowed from seeing your full appearance. "She looks familiar…." Shoko mumbled to herself. She couldn't put a finger on it but knew her brain was trying to wire old memories to the surface. "Ugh, I don't think I have the capacity to think right now. If it comes then it'll come. I'm not going to worry about it."
After cleaning your whole body, she wrapped two of the hospital gowns on you: one in the front and one in the back and let you rest.
The moment Shoko closed the door behind her, she was greeted by her former classmate, Gojo. "What are you doing here?" She asked, not moving as she kind of knew what he was here for.
Gojo had his infamous bright smile and attitude like always. "Oh I can't say hi to my old friend?! I haven't seen you in a while—"
"Get to the point."
Then Gojo's smile slowly disappeared and his face turned serious. "I heard from my students about them bringing a woman here. I'm here to see her."
Shoko didn't know why he needed to do that now or what piqued his curiosity but she didn't care. "No, she's resting right now. Catch her tomorrow when she's all better. Hurry up, let's go." Shoko pushed Gojo out of the area.
/
The next morning later, your eyes peeled open, letting your vision clear. Oh this feels nice to sleep on… Wait, where am I sleeping? Wasn't I…
Hastily, you rose up from you laid and frantically looked around. Your heart beated in fear and distress from your unknown surroundings. "I'm in a bed, I'm in a gown, I don't feel pain nor do I see wounds…" You named off everything you saw and felt in the room. Then you scrambled to the window as you flipped off the bed and pushed it open, feeling the nice breeze hitting your face.
Your eyes were amazed by nature's beauty where you were located. Though you should be scared since you're somewhere unmapped yet you wanted to admire Mother Nature. The gorgeous tall green trees, the birds chirping, and the delicate sun grazing the surface of it all.
"I wouldn't jump out the window if I were you. We're three stories high." A woman's voice said, alerting you as you realized you were as high as she stated, and you spun around to face the woman. She wore her long white coat over her business casual clothes. Dark circles on her face were visible from where you stood, and you guys were far from each other.
"And who are you? Where am I?" You stayed put, not wanting to move whatsoever. Your instincts told you that this wasn't a hospital because you knew what it looked like.
The woman pulled a chair to sit on as she spoke to you. "I'm a doctor. I don't know what happened to you but all I do know is that some students found you injured and took you to me."
"Oh!" Suddenly, you remembered what took place that day. It felt like a blur but you were able to move pieces of the puzzle to recall the incident. "Wow, those kids actually saved me from those bastards… I should go thank them…" You muttered to yourself.
"You are safe in this school, and you're free to go. Just make sure you can find your way out…"
You began walking towards the woman because you had questions for her regarding your severe injuries. Sitting on the bed, you intensely stared at her. "School, huh? And the kids are students from this school. How am I completely healed? No scabs. No bruises. It's like I was never hurt. No doctor can magically erase it all." You questioned her ability as a doctor since this healing process was not natural.
The more you focused on her face, flashbacks of your childhood emerged from the depth of the sea. They were memories you were forced to forget to keep your sanity stable, but this time it came in handy as a big gasp left your lips as you covered your mouth in absolute shock. "I think we might've met as kids! I remember that mole on your face. What's your name? My name is y/n!"
The woman's eyes widened too as it all clicked in her head. No wonder why she knew you were familiar but couldn't put a finger on it. She couldn't believe it's been decades since she last saw you. Her adult brain didn't even recognize you. "Wow… I can't believe it! It's Ieiri Shoko." A relaxed smile appeared on her face. It felt nostalgic to see an old friend again. "It's been years… How have you been?"
Shoko was your first friend you ever made when you snuck out of the orphanage you grew up in. You remembered meeting her because she was throwing rocks at a tree out of boredom. You were elated as a big smile painted your face. The feeling of joy and remembrance filled your heart and soul. Never in many years would you ever bump into her. "I've been…okay. Not the life I wanted but I have to go with it, you know? You just gotta keep charging forward and hope there's a light at the end of the tunnel." You said in a bittersweet tone.
Shoko nodded her head, already knowing what your circumstances could be as the people Gojo's students took down were curse users. Why would curse users be after a person like you? Usually, curse users didn't target non-sorcerers unless otherwise. Plus, Gojo was interested in you too so Shoko's mind concluded you were similar to everyone else in jujutsu tech—a potential sorcerer with a special ability. There's just no way they would capture you and attack you so brutally without reason. She would hate to see you run for your whole life if that's the case for you. Instead, she decided to come clean about who she was and watched your reaction.
I bet she probably knows she is different from everyone else. If I have her open up then I can help her… Shoko said to herself.
"Yeah, I agree. Being a doctor and a healing sorcerer is tough."
Your heart trembled a bit. You didn't know how to comprehend the sensation, but you kept a calm face. "Is that why my wounds are gone? Because you're a sorcerer who healed me? I don't remember much from the kids saving me, but I'm assuming they're sorcerers too… That's how they probably were unharmed as I was scared for their own safety." There's no way you were going to be oblivious to Shoko. You could read it in her eyes as she knew more than she let on.
A curl lifted the corner of Shoko's lips, keeping her arms folded across her chest as her eyes locked with yours. "Correct to both. What's so special about you that you were kidnapped and beaten? You made your life sound so cryptic."
You blew out a hefty sigh and showcased a rattled expression. "Healing tears and everyone wants to profit from it. It's been going on for my entire life, so I must leave as soon as possible or else this place will become a battlefield. I can't stay long in one area; I have to keep moving."
"Never gonna happen. This is jujutsu tech where it's concealed from outsiders who don't know the way in. It's protected so you'll be safe here."
"Hmm, interesting…" You've never heard of a barrier where it kept unknown people out. This place must be important if it's like this. You wondered if their security level was like the Prime Minister's office.
Then Shoko brought up an offer which could change the course of your life. "Why don't you work with me? You can be my assistant. I can probably get you housing on this property. You'll get fed, you'll have your own house to stay permanently, and probably learn how to defend yourself or whatever you choose. You'll definitely be safe here, and there's no other place that will help you grow. You can probably hide your curse technique from the higher ups so they don't drag your ass and you can become a supporting agent in the system."
"Oh…" That's all you could say as you didn't know much about the jujutsu society either. Nonetheless, this was something you least expected coming from Shoko. You weren't sure how fast she devised this plan and made sure it was bulletproof, but you didn't understand why she's doing all of this. Was it because you guys were old friends and she cared about you? Or being a sorcerer makes them like to help others? You're not too sure but regardless you knew she wanted to give you a chance to start it. First Nanami, now Shoko. It's amazing how you're meeting kind hearted individuals. "I don't know what to say or how to respond. It's too sudden—"
Shoko stood up and placed a hand on your shoulder. "Take your time to consider it. You have potential to grow into the person you're supposed to be." She firmly believed you were capable of choosing what's best for you and what future you wanted. She's giving you a path where no one could touch you and you'd be safe.
Before Shoko left, you asked her to find the kids who saved you because if they're young sorcerers and this was a school for sorcerers too, they must be here. Shoko agreed and led you to the student lounge, departing afterwards.
"Hi, you guys are the ones who saved me." You grinned in appreciation. They were so young and they kicked ass when you couldn't, but you didn't own a cursed tool hence you're weak and always running. It never occurred to you that sorcerers started at a young age.
"I'm Yuji Itadori! And it's no problem! I'm glad we still saved you even though we were never supposed to cross paths, but I heard noises and decided to check it out."
"Itadori!" The ginger and black spiky haired students glared at Itadori for being too honest, revealing how they were never supposed to save you.
You were taken aback by his bluntness. Perhaps he spilled the beans due to him being nervous towards strangers like you? You're not too sure but you're thankful to not be bounded and tortured.
"Haha, it's alright! All's well! And what are your names?"
"Nobara Kugisaki!"
"Fushiguro."
You gulped, hearing his last name as you stared at his figure. He was the one who got to you first and caused old wounds to resurface. That boy really looks like him. Is 'Fushiguro' a common surname? I don't know, but it's a coincidence that he does look like him or I'm going crazy because I thought my life was over so I must've remembered his face and forced it on the boy's appearance. Either way, it's a lot of memory searching to excavate what happened in my younger years. Too many events. Too many conversations. Too many faces. But you knew your heart felt weak for him in a pity way, so you probably could tell it's a reaction from your past.
"Thank you all again. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you guys. I should get going and find my way out!" The moment you turned around to leave, you abruptly stopped in your tracks. You didn't even move an inch as a tall man loomed over you. He wore a black blind fold and his white hair stood out from his dark uniform color.
"Excuse me," You didn't understand why he stopped in front of you when he could've gone around since it's a big room but you brushed it off and moved to round him. However, the man blocked your way again, preventing you from exiting. He extended his arms and legs at the doorway.
"You're being a bit rude. I'm trying to leave." You folded your arms and stared at him in dismay.
The man used his cursed technique, six eye to read you who you were in general regarding curse energy and technique. He was surprised that a person like you existed, but not to mention, he remembered your face. "As you can see, I don't want you to leave."
"Sensei, what are you doing?" The students asked because they didn't know what's going on with him. Usually, he's eccentric and carefree but he's acting like the total opposite.
Their teacher casually replied as you blocked it out.
Oh, he's a teacher yet he's acting like this? I don't think this is the right career path for him…
You moved across the room to a window since you couldn't exit at the front door. You noticed you're on the first floor, and the windows were all the same. It's the casement window where you had to unlock it and push it outwards to let the breeze in. If that's what you have to do to leave then you'll do that.
Then you opened up your ears again to hear their conversation was still going, and you looked at the corner of your eyes to see the teacher distracted by his students so you took the opportunity. "Might as well…" Your hands unlocked the locks and pushed the panels open, and so you jumped out as you bolted.
The man let his guard down while he was talking to his students. "Oh shoot!" He noticed your evasion and went to find a different route to catch you. He knew the layout better than you did.
"Damn where do I go?" You didn't even get a head start of the race because you were already caught. "Ah!" Someone grabbed your wrist and you were pushed against a wall. Right then and there, your heart dropped in your stomach as it was the man in the student lounge trapping you. He had one wrist of yours against the wall and the other free hand pushing your shoulder back so you didn't try to escape from his strength. He allowed you to breathe without having his face in your personal bubble.
"You're so funny to think you can run away from the most powerful sorcerer in all time?"
You went silent from his cocky attitude. You never knew a sorcerer like him could be stuck up. "Uh… I don't know who you are, and even if I do it wouldn't be in my head. Keep me in this position, I would love to scream for help so you can be caught for being a pervert." You threatened with a big grin because you can play the victim card anytime. You're fine being deceitful as long as it benefited you at the end of it and you come out unharmed.
The man's nose scrunched and his lips frowned as he narrowed his eyes behind his blindfold. He couldn't believe you'd actually do that. He had a reputation to uphold despite him being a womanizer on the low. Women were sure scary. "Fine…" He pulled back, letting you sit on the grass as you wanted to destress from his actions. You refused to look at him because if you did, you'd want to hit him for manhandling you like that. "I'm hurt you don't know who I am. I'm the Gojo Satoru!"
"Okay," You replied in a monotone voice, not actually caring who he was since you'll never meet him again. "I'm y/n. I don't get what a great sorcerer like you needs from me."
"You have low negative curse energy but abundant positive energy. You're popular amongst the curse users because they want your tears. I bet you're never safe, but if you work here you will be!"
For some reason he struck a nerve as if he knew you and your struggles, and that's what Gojo wanted you to react like. You glanced at him, emitting your vexation in your eyes. "Are you my stalker? You know more about me than I know myself…" You didn't feel safe with him. You were on your guard as you got back on your feet.
Gojo shook his head, rejecting your assumption. "No, I'm not. It's just my cursed technique. A part of it is that I can read cursed energy and it allows me to see your cursed technique to make it short."
"Eh, I still don't trust you. You're sketchy. You and Shoko said similar things. It scares me. Are you sure this isn't an occult?" You backed away from him, and Gojo gave you a whole list of why you should trust him. He even pulled out his resume and pictures to show his work of exorcizing curses. You weren't sure if he's doing a job interview or what, but you even saw a recent picture of Nanami with him which shocked you. It sounded a bit convincing to say the least because you trust Nanami.
"Okay, okay. I get it! You're a bit of a show off, but I can't give you an answer. I've been exploited before and I don't wanna feel like that again. If I join, I want to do it when I'm ready and I know I'm going to be doing a good deed. Shoko gave me the rundown of how you guys will provide me with food and shelter."
You mentioned Shoko's name twice, piquing Gojo's curiosity. He doesn't understand why Shoko would tell you that as she's never interested in people. "How do you know Shoko?"
"Oh well…" You told Gojo a brief explanation. "Don't be jealous that Shoko got to me first than you did, but I should be heading out so I can think about this alone."
Walking around campus, Gojo was beside you to show you the way out since he's not able to convince you to stay. So he pulled out his trump card to get a reaction out of you since he knew your face from somewhere. You were hanging out with his best friend. "Do you know Nanami Kento?"
Then Gojo saw your face light up as you answered with a bright yet shy smile, pushing your hair back. "Yes, I did. I see that you're friends with him too? I saw it on your phone when you were swiping through your gallery."
Gojo was in disbelief. The way your face drastically changed when he mentioned his name was shocking. He didn't want to jump to conclusions but he was. Does she like him? Are they dating? It's rare for me to see Nanami with a woman even if it's just platonic, but it wasn't even work related! Plus, he's too busy to hangout with me! Has he fallen for a woman he just met? Has she fallen for him for his looks? Hmmm, I don't want to scare her away. How should I approach this? Gojo told himself to not be hasty because he wanted to see how this would play out.
"I'm his senior,"
A sudden laughter shot out from your mouth. "Really?! I thought Nanami would be your senior. It's not hard to believe who's the level headed one…" You muttered your last sentence so he couldn't hear. You're astonished how you're having a casual conversation with him when you felt on edge by him earlier.
"Nope! I'm the upperclassman!" Gojo proudly put his hand on his chest as he smiled, but in reality he didn't really care about seniority. He just wanted to get a kick out of you. "How'd you meet Nanami? I remember seeing you having a meal with him. Were you guys on a date? Because I remembered he left me in the dust as he promised to see me that day but he was with you. Are you guys dating?!" He twisted a tiny lie in his statement but he knew it wasn't going to hurt anyone.
You nervously chuckled since you didn't know how to react to his bold question. "No… He was buying me food to repay me for healing him with my tears one day. We've mainly met through me encountering curse users, but I don't see him often because I'm always moving around." You wondered where Nanami could be. You'd like to see him soon and catch up with him again. However, you knew he's a busy sorcerer so maybe you'd see him if you're caught by a curse user again.
"How are you close with Nanami? He doesn't even want to be by me unless it's work related. He doesn't respect me." Gojo faked a cry as you thought about your reply. If you're honestly speaking, you don't even think you're close with him.
"Uh, I don't know what to tell you. I don't think I'm as close with Nanami as you assume we are. He's just nice. He helped me out in tough situations, that's all. I'm not sure if he likes me, if he's tolerating me, or if he's following his morals to help those against curse users. I'm no mind reader."
Then something clicked in Gojo's mind. He remembered Nanami asking him about any underground suspicions regarding a highly wanted woman for special tears. Gojo didn't often see Nanami appear distraught and worried but this time he was. "Following up on that, Nanami was worried about you. He came to me a few days ago and asked if I had any leads to find you. He went on a mission and overheard people gossiping about your disappearance whether you were dead or alive."
For some reason, Gojo's words made you stop in your tracks. "Is that so?" You were in disbelief.
From the distance, Nanami loosened his printed necktie as he thought about you and your well-being. He hasn't found a single clue of your location. It's like he kept hitting a dead end at every open path. He didn't know what else to do. Nanami mumbled to himself and elevated his eyes to see Gojo in his upcoming pathway.
"Oh gosh…" The moment Nanami was going to make a u-turn, he caught a glimpse of a woman who looked just like you under Gojo's chin. His heart raced as he stopped to stare to make sure he wasn't going crazy.
BA THUMP
BA THUMP
The woman wore two hospital gowns to cover one open end of the gown. Nanami couldn't tell whether it was you or not because he wasn't able to see the woman's face from where he stood. He didn't want to risk it if it was a random woman from Gojo's hookups, nor he was going to question the hospital gowns too.
"Ugh, I'm going home…"
At that point, Nanami turned around and heard Gojo's voice loud as clear as day. "Look! It's Nanami!"
Your eyes widened when you looked at the direction Gojo pointed at. A big smile drew upon your lips and you couldn't be any excited to see a friend again. "Hey, Nanami!"
"Huh?!" Nanami whipped around, feeling as if he's going crazy to hear your voice but his eyes didn't deceive him. He saw your lit face running towards him. He had so many questions and didn't know where to start. It's a relief you're safe so he can calm down now.
Your feet halted in front of Nanami. You already knew what you were going to say to him. "I heard you were searching for me. Your good friend Gojo told me! I'm glad to tell you that I was kidnapped and tortured but…!"
Nanami didn't like the word 'torture' as it caused his stomach to squeeze in rage. He couldn't believe people were that evil to get your precious tears.
"These three students from this school saved me by accident so I'm here and alive! Shoko also healed me too!" You proudly said, and Nanami was surprised you kept an upbeat tone in your voice. You're so brave because most people would be tainted in your position. It kind of made him a bit sad thinking about it.
Collecting himself, Nanami relaxed his posture and let him get everything out of his system. "I'm glad to hear that. You're correct though. I was searching for you because I heard things and I wanted to make sure you weren't actually caught and they were bluffing. I should've taken you home or else this wouldn't have happened." Nanami felt a bit guilty for letting this occur as he knew it wasn't his fault, but he knew your circumstances. You ran before he could chase after you.
You scrunched your brows and hit his shoulder lightly. "Don't say that! I'm used to it, don't worry about it. It's not your fault! It makes me happy to know someone cares about me! And we haven't known each other long either. You're so sweet! I wished everyone could be like you."
"Aww! Don't get all flirty you two!" Gojo ruined the conversation basing his interpretation as blind love between you two.
You judged him so hard with your blank stare. You didn't understand why he said that when it's obvious you're just friends, but you brushed it off as it's best to take your leave. It was nice seeing Nanami again yet your unknown destiny called you elsewhere. "Well, I'm thankful to be saved. It was nice meeting you, Gojo… And for Nanami, I hope I see you soon on the streets! I need to go now!" You didn't want to burden anyone with your existence. Less blood shed on your hands.
"Where are you going?" Nanami stopped you before you escaped again. He didn't know where in the world you would have to go. "You don't even have a home."
"Ouch…" You and Gojo said in unison. You two thought it was brutal for Nanami to say it so bluntly. It kind of hurts you because you knew it was true but you didn't want to hear it.
Then Gojo threw his arm around Nanami's shoulders. "My guy, be nice to the lady. That was harsh of you to say. You're going to scare her away for being so mean."
A tick mark grew on Nanami's forehead from Gojo's annoyance. He's trying so hard not to strangle the life out of Gojo. "That's not what I meant. If you have let me finish then I would've told y/n my selling point."
"What is it?" You asked, tilting your head to the side. You wondered if it's going to be the same as Shoko and Gojo's.
"Work for the school so you have a stable lifestyle and you won't have to worry about getting killed or kidnapped."
You blew out a hefty, nervous chuckle. "Oh god… Not you too, Nanami! I had Shoko and Gojo tell me the same thing! What's so special about me that I should stay?! I'm just a random stranger on the street who's getting hunted. I'm not a strong person in terms of innate abilities! Like yeah, give me a weapon and I'll whip ass but other than that I'm not special. All I do is heal…" You couldn't understand their offer. It felt too surreal to accept because nobody has ever offered you a better deal. You're just afraid how long this luxury, happy life will last before it all comes crashing down. A person's mind was a compulsion to be wary of as doubt, fear, and despair can easily corrupt every last hope of optimism.
"Healers aren't common in the jujutsu world, that's why they're after you. Nobody is after Shoko as she doesn't go on missions at all and she keeps herself on the low. But if there were a chance of a war, then we would keep her protected because they would want to take her out." Gojo informed you, trying to sway your mind to think otherwise.
For once Nanami could finally agree with Gojo on the topic of you, but he didn't know why Gojo would be interested in you. He's never once met you; you never once brought him up before either. Nanami's a bit suspicious yet he's not going to assume anything. "You should give it a try and see how you like it. I'd say seven days to see whether you want to stay or not."
"I don't get what I'm going to do if I accept. I'm not a certified sorcerer—"
Another voice chimed in your sentence. "I told you that you'll work with me, y/n."
Everyone turned around to see it was Shoko walking towards the group as her hands were in her coat pockets. Even she's taken aback how they all want you to stay for the same reason. It's best to keep you out of the hands of curse users.
Shoko continued speaking, "The best course of action is to steer her away from the eyes of the higher ups. I'll talk to Principal Yaga about her staying on campus and this trial. All he'll know is that you're also a healer too because having a full on lie might get you killed…"
Your stomach got queasy really fast imagining yourself being beheaded over a harmless lie to protect yourself.
"After informing him, y/n will be my assistant from there on. Whatever she wants to do on campus then she has the free will to do so. You will be fed and protected. If you still don't like this then you're free to leave. Does that sound fair enough for you?"
You got chills from her elaborated plan once again. It didn't help that you felt pressured to say 'yes' because everyone wanted you to be a part of the jujutsu community. Not to mention, they believe you have potential too. Plus, seven days wasn't too long or too short to give everyone a final say. There's no harm in this if you're going to be pampered for a week. At least then you'll feel a bit relieved about the next following days. You wouldn't have to be concerned about food or shelter.
The three sorcerers anticipated your answer as you didn't say anything for a minute.
My plan is solid and this should be a 'yes'. This will be good for her to grow and change her life. Shoko said to herself.
If she agrees, I hope she'll like it as she wouldn't be fighting but helping Shoko with anything. This opportunity will help her flourish. I can't wait to see what she will become, and I'm glad to say I'll be able to check up on her frequently too since she'll be living here. Nanami noted all the pros to this.
She's quite powerful if she doesn't know it. Whose side she's on should be scared because her tears aren't ones to be messed with…. But all I can hope is that the higher ups don't dig too deep to find her information after hearing she's a healer too. I'll do as I can to protect her from them, but hopefully they'll let this slide and move on… Gojo was slightly worried about you joining despite him wanting you here. He knew how the jujutsu society operated but as long as he's superior, no one could touch the people he kept in his circle.
"Fine, I'll see how it is." You finally gave them your answer they've been wanting. You only chose this trial to see if you're actually going to love this life change or not. There's no other options available for you but this. You needed to take it or else you would regret it.
It was a win for everyone so Shoko took you away before anyone else could. "Let me show you the way, y/n! And you're going to change your clothes while at it too."
Once you two were far from the men, Shoko whispered for you to hear. "Who scarred your body?" It was only out of pure concern because she can't help but envision it whenever she looked at you with no answer to the mystery.
