"So what's your little problem got to do with His Majesty's Royal Air Corps?" Winston asked.
"Not a goddamn thing," O'Connell replied, honestly and the old pilot looked intrigued.
"Is it dangerous?"
"You probably won't live through it," Sam said, which intrigued the veteran.
"By Jove, do you really think so?"
"Well everyone else we've bumped into has died why not you?" Jonathan told him.
"What's the challenge then?" Winston asked.
"Save the damsel in distress, kill the bad guy, steal his treasure," O'Connell informed.
"Winston Havlock at your service." He led them to his plane and they worked on figuring out how they were all going to ride on it. In the end, they strapped Sam to the top of the plane, Jonathan and Ardeth to each wing and O'Connell took the gunner's seat. She couldn't help but smile as the wind rushed around her. Off to the left, she noticed that a large whirlwind was blowing, and could only marvel at the sight, never had she seen one so big. Suddenly Winston put the plane into a dive and Sam couldn't help but white-knuckle the wings. Above the noise of the plane, she could hear the gun firing behind her but could not turn to see what he was shooting at. Sand swallowed them, the plane spinning wildly. Almost as quickly as it appeared it disappeared and the plane went down crashing into a dune.
"Excuse me . . ." Her brother called as she struggled to unstrap herself from the top of the plane "A little help would be useful . . .if it's NOT TOO MUCH TROUBLE!" Sam fell off the plane and landed in Ardeth's arms, where they stared into each other's eyes, seeing what their minds had not allowed them to think of. The plane shuddered and he quickly lowered her to the ground.
"Quicksand! Stay back it's quicksand." They watched as the plane sank, Winston Havlock with her. Sam and O'Connell both saluted the soldier. And they made their way to the city on foot.
"So what does this Horus guy look like?" O'Connell asked.
"Big guy, pointy ears face like a falcon," Sam replied, looking ahead at the ruins.
"Got it," Rick replied.
They entered the Necropolis, carrying torches, and made their way down a long narrow staircase, heading into the bowels of the city. And all Sam could think was that this was a passage to Hell. The group came to a collapsed doorway sighing, Ardeth and Rick worked on clearing it while Sam and Jonathan held the torches. Her brother gave unhelpful directions such as "take them from the top" when he told the two warriors to put their backs into it though they both stopped and stared at him until he cleared his throat and looked at the wall next to him. Sam shook her head and watched Ardeth as he moved the rocks. Would he be the one who killed her? Or would they send a different Medjai to do it?
"Say, gents! You should come have a look at this." Jonathan calls getting her attention, and then her brother started screaming. The three ran up to him Ardeth held him tight, Sam held out his arm and Rick pulled open his shirt and pulls out his butterfly knife. "Not that! Not that!" Jonathan yelled, as Rick shoved his knife into her brother's flesh and popped out a scarab which landed a couple of feet away, and started scurrying back. Rick quickly pulled out his gun and shot the thing. The warriors turned back to their chores while Sam tended to Jonathan as best she could.
"From now on, don't touch anything. Not a damn thing. Keep your hands off the furniture got it?" She scolded. Her brother swallowed hard and nodded.
They entered a room that had a single shaft of light coming through. O'Connell shot at a disk they were just able to make out through the light and the room lit up showing Seti's treasure. They stared at the treasure surrounding them,
"Can you see-"
"Yeah."
"Can you believe-"
"Yeah."
"Can we just-"
"No." A croaking sound came from behind them and a hand shot out of the ground.
"Who the hell are these guys?" O'Connell asked.
"Priests. Imhotep's priests." Ardeth answered. Sam pulled out her gun.
"Alright then" O'Connell replied.
"I've never shot a priest before." She commented.
"They are evil, cursed, they matter not," Ardeth assured.
"Well ok then." And they started firing. It seemed the more they "killed" the more showed up. They backed out of the room still firing at the priests, going down what felt to be a never-ending passage, until: "There he is!" Jonathan called. "Hello Horus, old boy." Sam ran up to the statue with her brother, then was tugged behind it by Ardeth as an explosion collapsed the corridor they were just in.
Jonathan and Rick dug at the hidden compartment while Sam and Ardeth reloaded their weapons. A croaking causing them to look up.
"Damn these guys just don't quit do they," O'Connell growled.
"Keep digging," Ardeth instructed, and he and Sam moved forward shooting at the mummies. Sam chanced a glance back at her brother and best friend, they had the book. She heard the click of Ardeth's shotgun running out of ammo and knew the time had come.
"Save the girl! Kill the creature!" He ordered. And charged into the on-coming hoard. Sam gave them one last smile and charged with him.
"Sammy!" Rick yelled.
"What are you waiting for?" Ardeth yelled as the two fought off the mummies. "Get out! Get out!"
