The Daily Lives of the Owl Familia:
Why so Much

Summary: While waiting for Lilith to finish making the End-of-Ghoul-Break dinner, Amity asked a question that has been on her mind all Week.

Timeline: The night before Luz returned to normal

"Ms. Lilith, can I ask you something?" Amity asked curiously.

"Amity," Lilith said with a kind smile, "We have known each nearly five years, you don't need to be so formal with me."

Amity felt her face heat up and took a moment to calm herself before asking her next question. "L-Lilith, why are rejuvenation potions so expensive? Even mom complains about not being able to buy a whole vial."

Lilith stopped stirring the stew she was making, and looked at her ex-student with a kind and knowing smile.

"It's not the potion itself that is expensive," Lilith clarified, "But it's the main ingredient…Deadwardian River Root. It's a powerful potion enhancer."

Amity looked at her ex-teacher as she remember hearing her father saying something about such a flower during one of his planning sessions for a product. However, she was drawing a blink with the plant.

Lilith saw the confusion growing on her former student's face and decided to further clarify.

"Amity," she said softly, "River Root flowers bloom once every 25 years, in limited numbers, and only has a day life span."

Amity was still lost; she knew about rare flowers her mom had kept a bunch of as status symbols. So, she couldn't understand why a flower would make a potion so cost so much.

Before she could ask for more information, she heard a noise and turned to the living room entrance. Eda, her friends, her girlfriend, and a disturbed-looking Steve walked into the kitchen.

"Am-Am!" Luz cheered joyfully, ran up to her, and hugged her. "Luve you!"

Amity couldn't help but giggle at her "knocked-down" girlfriend's antics; it hasn't been ten minutes and she was acting like she hadn't seen Amity in a week.
Amity, with a little trouble, picked up her girlfriend and took a seat on the island.

"So, what's everyone talking about?" Gus asked curiously.

"I was just telling Amity that River Root flowers are the reason why rejuvenation potions are so expensive," Lilith answered, going back to stirring her stew.

"Really?" Willow asked curiously. "I've seen that plant in some of my books, and it doesn't look all that important.

"Yeah," Amity piped in, "I don't see how a plant could cause a potion to cost so much."

"I guess Lily didn't tell that when a River Root began to die it lose a lot of its kick," Eda said knowingly.

"Indeed," Lilith added. "And you can't add the River Root to a pre-brew potion, which is the reason why only five-to-six potions could be made during the bloom."

"Yeah, that's why all those snobs in the upper crust of the Isles see the potion as a hot collector item," Eda added with an eye roll and then grin at her human daughter. "Why just have a potion and not use it, right kiddo?"

With a big smile, the "knocked-down" human nodded her agreement. That cute scene put a smile on everyone's faces.

"I still don't get it," Gus said. "Is that flower really that powerful?"

Lilith stopped her stirring and looked at her sister. The Sisters Clawthorne put on matching smirks and looked at the students and one scout.

"I bet you all seen that abomination stain on the Hexside tower, right?" Eda asked lightheartedly.

The Hexside student exchanged looks and looked back at Eda and nodded a bit awkwardly. Eda's smirk grew slightly at this sight.

"What you probably didn't know was the stain was the result of Aldor getting a dying River Root and adding it to an abomination mixture," Lilith added knowingly.

Everyone Hexisde student gasp and pointed at Eda. "THAT WASN'T YOU!?"

Eda's smirk turned cocky and said," I'm flattered, but nope. It was all boot's daddy doing."

Amity was shocked; she was a star student in her study, but she had never heard of something like that happening.

"But here's the kicker," Eda said, drawing everyone's attention to her. "He put the flower in a mixture in a pot about the size of the one in my sink, and the abomination created was twice the size of the school."

Everyone gasp at this and gawk at the four-inch cooking pot in the sink. It was hard to believe that something that size could make something that dwarfed the school.

Lilith's voice brought everyone's attention back to the sisters.

"As Edalyn said, the River Root was dying, so the abomination was unstable and collapse a minute after being created. As you could guess, it covered the school."

"That was a fun day," Eda added with a short laugh. "And I didn't get in trouble for that one."

Everyone was silent at this new information, but the wheels in Amity's head were turning a bit differently. After everyone she had witnessed in this last few months, she was glad that the flower blooms once every twenty-five years.

Amity shuddered to think what would happen if one of the sickoes she meant would get their hands on such a thing.

A sudden growl filled the room and everyone in the room looked in the direction of the couple. Amity's entire face went scarlet as she realized it was her stomach that growled.

"Well, dinner is ready," Lilith warmly. "Edalyn, set the table while I hand out the stew."

The Wild Witch rolled her eyes but did as her sister's asked. Soon, dinner was passed out and everyone was enjoying it and each other company. Luz even let her girlfriend spoon-feed her some stew.

After much thought, I decided to immediately continue with my Noceda-Clawthorne Series while alternating between other projects. Also, this one would be short stories that happened, before, during, and after all the others stories in my series.
Fun fact; this was one of three mini-chapters I was debuting to put at the end of Ghoul Break. Stay tuned for the other one and many more.
