Thoughts of an ordinary girl
I think I like him.
Are you sure?
No.
You should be.
But I'm not.
I think therefore I am. You think you like him, therefore you do.
That's not what that quote means.
True. But it works, doesn't it?
No, not really. If everything worked like that, then I could think I was able to fly and I would fly. But I can't. It's impossible.
Nothing's impossible. And the logic works.
So you're saying I should be able to fly.
I don't see why not.
That's crazy. I'm not.
What's so bad about being crazy?
Everything.
How would you know? You're not crazy.
But you are.
True. And it's not bad, I can tell you.
I think I really am going crazy.
Good. Embrace that feeling.
Fine, genius. How do you fly?
Simple. I just told you. Don't you remember?
You mean, I think therefore I am?
Exactly.
I think I can fly, therefore I can.
…
…Well?
What?
I don't seem to be flying.
Yes. Because you don't actually think that. You're only humoring me. Or trying to prove yourself right. Or both.
Fine. I think I can fly. I think I can fly. I think I can fly.
…
Still not flying.
Still not thinking.
I THINK I CAN FLY! I CAN FLY!
There, that's much better.
But I'm still on the ground.
I never said you would be literally flying.
Cop-out.
Say what you want. Now, are you sure?
Yes.
And…?
I know I like him. I hope he likes me. I think we would be wonderful.
Very good. Do you know what you have to do?
Yes.
Then do it. And by the way…Yes?
This is how you fly…How?
Jump…What else?
Aim for the ground…Then?
Miss.
Huh. Makes sense.
It sure does. Good luck.
The next day, Hermione did something that she thought was incredibly brave. Braver than being Harry Potter's friend, braver than being a junior member of the Order, braver than facing Voldemort.
She asked Draco Malfoy out.
And he said yes.
(This, of course, was after the entire Grand Hall, Draco included, nearly died of shock. Needlessly to say, Hermione is no longer one of Madame Pomfrey's favorite students.)
-The end.
Sum: Hermione talks to herself, and nothing makes sense. Except it does.
