Chapter 5

After leaving his study, she felt she needed air, so she left the compound, knowing that it would make Klaus very unhappy with her. She walked the streets, when suddenly she felt being grabbed behind by the shoulders and pretty soon everything went to black.

When she woke up, she was in an apartment, in a quite a nice apartment. She was vervained, she was sitting on a chair, her hands and legs were tied up with chains. And she felt this enormous pain in the neck like it was bitten. But as vampire, she should heal fast. But she wasn't.

"Took you long enough, dear."

Caroline was startled by the words when a woman came in from another room. She had really pretty red hair and wasn't ugly either.

"Now, tell me who you are to Niklaus. Why is he so fond of you?" The woman asked.

"What are you talking about?" Caroline answered with a question of her own.

"Oh, come on, don't play dumb. I've been following him for days now and I saw you two out and about few days ago and now you've been living in his house. Who are you?"

"My name is Caroline Forbes and I'm a friend of Klaus'. And if you don't let me out, he is gonna come searching for me."

"Hi, Caroline, my name is Aurora de Martel. Haven't heard of me? Well, Klaus knows me very well. There was a time I was everything to him. And let him come for you. You're pretty much as good as dead, anyway."

"Oh, great, ex-girlfriend. What a lovely day. Wait, what do you mean by being dead. What have you done to me. The pain in my neck…"

"…is caused by this." And she was holding a tiny bottle of strange orange liquid. "Did you know Caroline, that my brother and I have been working for years to develop a poison that works on both the human, vampires, werevolves and yes even hybrids. This is the end of Klaus Miklealson's family."

"You poisoned me`? And intend to do the same to Klaus and his family"

"No not to Klaus, himself, you silly girl. I love Klaus, I want to spend the rest of my life with him. But you and his family are in the way."

"You are insane. It won't work. You maybe able to kill me, but you'll not be able to kill the Originals."

"We'll see about that, won't we."

"Where the hell is she?" Klaus yelled at his family. They noticed her absence a couple of hours ago and Freya's locator spell didn't give a well enough location. She was still in New Orleans but they didn't get the exact location.

"I'm sure she's Ok, Klaus, do you always have to assume the worst?" Freya tried to calm his brother.

"When there's a humanity-less Damon Salvatore running around, I have to assume the worst, sister"

Klaus was already on the phone with his brother.

"Stefan, Where are you`? Is your brother still in New Orleans?"

"No his not. We are both thousands of miles away from the states. Damon definitely followed me to Europe. We had a big fight just hours ago. Why what's the matter?

"It maybe nothing, Caroline left the compound and I don't know where she is"

"I'm sure she's alright. But if you want me to come back-"

"NO, the further you are the better. We don't want Damon to be chasing you back here. Stay in Europe."

"Ok, but keep me informed about Caroline, Klaus!"

"I will"

With that Klaus ended the phone call and stormed out of the study, yelling "Then where the bloody hell is she?"

When he got to the front door, she noticed a little box inside the compound by the door like somebody had thrown it over the door.

In the box he found an envelope and a necklace with a pendant that had a "A" on it It was very old but Klaus recognized it immediately. In the envelope there was a short message: "Come and get me. A house red as my hair, in the quarter, right on top."

"Elijah," Klaus yelled for his brother.

With in seconds Elijah was there beside him and he say Hayley and Freya walking toward them, too.

"What is it, Niklaus?"

Klaus gave the note and the necklace to Elijah, who recognized the latter instantly.

"Aurora de Martel. Didn't you give her the necklace thousand years ago. She's alive and here?"

"And she has Caroline!" Klaus screamed throwing the empty box as far as he could.

"Niklaus, calm down, let me make some calls, see if there's any houses or apartments in her or her brother's name and then we can rescue her."

"Please, do and fast"

So Elijah went to make a phone call while Klaus put Freya to work on a locator spell.

"I hit a jackpot, Niklaus" Elijah came back smiling. "It turns out that there is an apartment recently registered to her name and guess what, the building is red."

"Ok, then let's go, Elijah. I need you with me, in case there are surprises, I won't take any chances when Caroline's life is on the line."

"Let me come with," Hayley asked as she was already giving Hope to Freya to hold.

"Why?" was all Klaus could ask, dumbfounded.

"Because she needs all the help she can get. I am a hybrid, too. I can help, if there are indeed any surprises."

"Okay, come then. But you'll do as I say, got it?"

"Yes, Klaus"

The trio found the building and went to an elevator where they picked the highest floor. They we right, there were four vampires guarding the door that they killed with ease. But during the fight there was this one guy, who appeared out of nowhere and jabbed Elijah with a syringe in the neck. He screamed in agony, while Hayley screamed his name and Klaus killed the guy.

They looked at the point of entrance and the skin around it was now red and swollen. Something was totally off about it, Klaus thought. But he didn't have time to ponder for long as he still had to get to Caroline.

So he opened the front door and was disgusted by the sight in front of them. Caroline was chained to a door, she was pretty out of it and his former lover Aurora de Martel was standing beside her with syringe in her hands ready to jab Caroline with it.

"One more step, Niklaus, and she's dead. I have already jabbed her once and when I do it again, she dies instantly."

"Aurora, love, what are you doing?"

Both Elijah and Hayley looked at him confused.

"I'm killing your girlfriend, obviously"

"She is not my girlfriend, Aurora."

"Then what is she doing in your house for days?"

"She's an acquaintance of our family and she just needed a place to lay low for a while."

"Oh…"

"So you don't love her. You're still in love with me, Niklaus, aren't you?"

"Yes, I am"

With that Aurora left Caroline to where she was and both Klaus and Aurora stepped closer to each other until their lips met in liplock, during which Klaus got a key from her pocket which Elijah took and he and Hayley went to free Caroline.

Then Niklaus just snapped her neck. And they left the apartment with Klaus holding Caroline in his arms and Elijah carrying Aurora back to the compound.

In the car, Caroline kept mumbling that she was dying.

"In case I die, I need you to…know…that…I love you. Always have."

Klaus couldn't helo but smile "Shhh, don't waste energy. You are going to be alright."

"No, I'm not, Klaus. It's poison, I'm as good as dead."

"Caroline, don't.."

And they reached the compound where Aurora was chained in the basement and Caroline was taken to his bedroom in his bed. Caroline kept mumbling about dying. Now Elijah had the same poison in his system but his thoughts were more coherent as he got jabbed at lot later.

"Klaus, go try to get the antidote out of her. Don't be soft, be brutal and get it out of her."

"I will, brother."

Then Klaus left his brother with Hayley who was crying by his bed.

Klaus went downstairs to the basement and saw that Aurora had already woken up.

"What's the antidote, Aurora?" he asked nicely first.

"There's no antidote, Klaus, we developed the poison but we didn't develop an antidote. Caroline and your brother are as good as dead."

"You're lying. You wouldn't create something that was a danger to yourself too with out making an antidote. You might be crazy enough to do that but not your brother."

"Aurora, I'm not kidding, I'm gonna cut out your eyeballs if you don't start talking."

She didn't answer, just stared at him with a sickly smile.
Then he grabbed a knife and started to make good on that threat.

"Okay, stop, I'll tell you. The antidote is with my brother who' currently thousand of miles away and you'll never get to him quick enough. They'll be dead before that." Started laughing and he snapped her neck again.

Klaus went upstairs to look for others, seething in rage.

"The antidote is with his brother who could be anywhere. We'll never get it in time." There were tears in his eyes while he started to trash his study where they had currently gathered.

Everybody was at a loss for words. Until it was Freya who spoke first, "There's one thing we could try to buy time."

Klaus stopped in his tracks and went closer to his sister. "Anything. I would do anything for them"

"We can put them in deep sleep, in a magical slumber. The poison wouldn't spread during that time and we could even visit them in the dream land."

Klaus thought about it for a moment and then said, "Okay, if there's not any other way, we'll do it."

"There's always another way, but we won't find it before they die," Freya said quietly. "Ok then I need their blood and I'm gonna do the spell while you can say goodbye to them for now."

Hayley went to explain the situation to Elijah, while Klaus went and lied down beside Caroline, taking her in his arms.
"Caroline, we found a way to keep you alive for now. We'll gonna put you in a deep slumber to stop the poison from spreading while we find an antidote."

"What? Seriously?"

"Yes, seriously. There's no other way. Freya promised to create a place you will love to be and I can visit you there. My mind can enter your mind."

"Seems you have everything worked out. What do you need from me?"

"Just acceptance. It's going to be alright." Klaus looked at Caroline, " Why didn't you tell me before how you felt about me"

"Because love isn't enough. There's other factors-" And before she could finish, she fainted and Klaus knew that it was the spell Freya casted at the same time-

They put Caroline and Klaus in coffins where they were the most comfortable.

And they started to look for Aurora's brother, Tristan de Martel, trying a locator spell that pointed only Asia, somewhere in Thailand.

"Ok, thanks, Freya. I'm going there then"

"And how are you going to find him. It's like searching for needle in a haystack, Niklaus" Freya asked

"I'll figure it out."

"Maybe you should let you siblings handle that. Kol is already in Asia with Davina and Rebekah and Hayley can join him in the search. Let them do the hard work, and then you'll join them when they have a more specific location."

"Hayley? Hayley has to be here with Hope. Hayley is not going anywhere."

"She wants to go, for Elijah. Me and you can take care of Hope until then."

"Why Freya?"

"Because Hope needs one of you and you don't want to leave Caroline alone for so long."

Klaus hadn't even thought of that, that going to Thailand would mean being months away from Caroline and Elijah.

"Okay, I accept the plan," Klaus said after pondering for the longest time, "But only till they get a better location."

"I'll let everybody know. Rebekah is already on the way and Hayley is packing as we speak."
