Chapter 6
"So, do you have any leads?" Klaus asked over the speaker phone Kol, Hayley and Rebekah who were in Thailand searching for Tristan de Martel. Freya was also in the room with him, holding Hope.
"Nothing substantial. I found out that Tristan owns an apartment in Pattaya but it was rented out and compulsion showed that the people renting it, knew nothing about the owner. So another dead end." Rebekah informed her brother.
"Damn it," Klaus was clearly upset. It had been 2 months while they had been searching him in there. "Freya, are you sure that he is still Thailand?"
"That's what the locator spell shows, yes"
"Unless…" Klaus started thinking.
"Unless, what, Klaus?" Hayley asked over the phone.
"Unless it's some kind of a decoy. Yes, it genius, have a witch put a spell on him, so the locator spells show him in one place while he's somewhere else entirely."
"It's possible, yes." Freya agreed.
"Then he could be anywhere. We're back to square one. Okay, Hayley and Rebekah, please return to the states. Kol thank you for everything, you are free to do as you like."
"Thanks for the permission, brother." Kol laughed.
"But we will come back. There's no way I am gonna continue my world travels while my brother is dying." Rebekah said over the phone."
"Thank you." Then he ended the call and turned to Freya. "So any ideas?"
"Call it a hunch, but I'm sure he's somewhere in new orleans, plotting against you as we speaks. You do have his sister, so he must be here."
"I agree, but I can't search the entire city. I need somewhere to start with?"
"Why don't you start with Aurora's apartment. Maybe there are any clues?"
"Already searched it. There was nothing but-"
"But what? Then I searched for clues about Thailand. Maybe I should look for new pair of eyes. But first I want to visit Caroline"
"You haven't done that much. Why not?"
"I…didn't want to disappoint her." Klaus sighed and went to the room they kept her coffin.
He took her hand in his and focused hard, closing his eyes.
In a matter of seconds, he was in front of a lovely country house that was similar to the one Caroline's father used to own near Mystic Falls. He went in to the house and saw her reading "War and Peace" in an armchair.
"What the hell are you reading, love?" He asked her and laughed a little.
"Well, at first when I landed here, I just kept waiting. Then I got tired of it and read some books. But they got over really fast so decided to start something that would go on forever and reading "War and Peace" is a slow process."
"I see," He smiled at her.
"What are you doing here, Klaus? Everything alright?"
"Everything is the same but we figured out that Tristan must still be in the states. So we'll try to narrow it down. But I don't want to talk about that."
"Okay, then what do you want to talk about?" Caroline asked, putting the book away and standing up, walking past him on to the porch.
"Us," he said, following her on the porch and standing next to her as she aimlessly looked out on the crop fields.
"What is there to talk about us?" she asked innocently.
"Well, the last time you said that you loved me, but that it wasn't enough. That the darkness in me freightens you."
"Oh, that. I just meant that if we were together, we would be constantly fighting like you and Hayley do all the time. Fighting over what is the best course of action against your many enemies as fighting them always leads to innocent people getting hurt."
"What do you know about my relationship with Hayley?"
"Oh, come on, Klaus. I have talked to Hayley myself and Freya. You two are like old marriage couple."
"Because we're not in love like you and I are. Love, that is what would make our relationship work."
"You have lived a thousand years and you're still that naïve. That love is going to be the reason that we are emotionally going to destroy each other."
"I don't believe that."
"Believe what you want but it's the truth."
With that he let go and in a matter of seconds he opened his eyes to see Caroline in a coffin and he knew he was back to reality.
Caroline hating him didn't mean that he would stop looking for the cure. He loved her and he wanted to cure her no matter what.
SO he went back to the apartment, looking for any clues on how to find Tristan de Martel, when his phone buzzed and it was Freya.
"I haven't found anything, Freya. Tristan de Martel is still at large. I have no idea where he might be"
"I might know"
"What are you talking about?"
"Well, he's here at the compound, holding a knife on my throat as we speak"
"I'm on my way"
When he got to the compound, Tristan was standing behind freya, holding a knife to her throat.
"I want my sister back, Klaus. Now"
Klaus chuckled, "You know I could kill you before you had the time to stab her with that toy."
"Well, you can try. But first you have to fight them off"
"And then she saw about 20 vampires coming him and surrounding them in a circle.
"So how about it? A sister for a sister?
"Okay, I'll go fetch her. Just don't hurt my sister."
Then he disappeared for a second and before Tristan knew what was happening, Klaus came from behind and snapped his neck. Then he took care of the 20 angry vampires.
"What a fool that Tristan is. Really, only 20 vampires and knife on you."
"Still, I am impressed, brother. You really are best at what you do."
Klaus just smiled at her.
"So now that we have him, you are going to torture the cure out of him, right?"
"Yes, I am gonna make him talk, don't worry sister."
