Midnights
Anti-Hero
RPOV
"The next one's the lead single right?" I asked, tilting my head at Lissa. She nodded.
"I'm pretty offended she didn't release it before the album. I don't think my heart can take this many brand new songs all in one shot," she sighed, clutching her chest dramatically. "Can you guys move the table out of the way?"
"Sure," I shrugged, jumping to my feet with Dimitri. "Why?"
"I have a feeling we're going to want to dance at some point," she answered. I laughed, grabbing one end of the table while my boyfriend got the other. We easily lifted it and moved it against the far wall, opening up Lissa's living room into a makeshift dance floor. Lissa jumped to her feet, pressing play again and grabbing my hands. We giggled and began swaying to the music with each other while the boys watched from the couch in amusement.
I have this thing where I get older
But just never wiser
"Damn, Rosie," Christian quipped. "She really does write about you." Dimitri choked on a laugh and I shot them both a withering glare. Christian paled but Dimitri just smirked, teasing me with his eyes.
Midnights become my afternoons
Lissa and I laughed. I pulled her closer to me, wrapping one arm around her waist in a faux waltz.
When my depression works the graveyard shift
All of the people I've ghosted
Stand there in the room
I should not be left to my own devices
They come with prices and vices
I end up in crisis
Tale as old as time
I wake up screaming from dreaming
One day I'll watch as you're leaving
Cause you got tired of my scheming
For the last time
"Damn," Lissa muttered, shaking her head. "I'm surprised this isn't a track five." I squeezed her hand and spun us around the room.
It's me
Hi
I'm the problem
It's me
At tea time,
Everybody agrees
I'll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero
"Is this how you've always felt being my number one cheerleader?" I joked.
"You know exactly how I felt about that," she teased. I smiled back at her, a twinge of sadness at no longer being bonded to her. It was both refreshing and terrifying at the same time. We continued to dance around, twirling and laughing and ignoring how deep our favorites singer's words cut us. The song ended beautifully and Lissa flung her arms around me after pausing the album once more.
"You're my favorite anti-hero, Rose," she whispered. I held her tightly.
"And you're mine," I agreed, releasing her.
"Get a room," Christian rolled his eyes.
"I'd happily get a room with your girlfriend, sparky," I picked up a throw pillow and threw it at him. "Don't test me." He glared, both at my words and getting hit in the face.
"I don't think your boyfriend would like that much either," he bit back. I grinned saucily at them both.
"He could come too," I winked and Lissa gasped, slapping my shoulder. Dimitri snapped his guardian mask into place but I could see the amusement dancing in his dark eyes. Christian looked like he was ready to set me on fire, and I was only slightly nervous because he actually could.
"You're lucky Lissa would kill me if I burnt your hair off," he growled. Dimitri flicked his eyes to his charge.
"I might even help her in that situation, Christian," he told the raven-haired boy. Shock filled his face as I dropped myself back into Dimitri's lap and kissed him deeply. I broke away to see Lissa siting next to Christian and patting his shoulder gently. A happy laugh bubbled from my chest as I looked at my three favorite people.
"What's next?" I asked Lissa. Her face lit up.
"Snow on the beach with Lana!" she exclaimed, excitedly. She loved Lana del Rey had been looking forward to her collaborating with Swift since it was announced.
