In Blood

Christine woke early on Saturday, finding she was still on the couch from the night before and crept slowly to her husband's room.

Having mind to simply slip into bed with him, she tiptoed quietly up the stairs.

She had just reached the door in the sprawling mansion when she saw the one thing she never thought she would.

A servant was with him, sitting beside him.

Christine watched for a moment in silent horror and betrayal as the woman slowly unbuttoned Raoul's shirt and slid her hands over his chest.

Then she spoke.

"Monsieur's wife is still in the living room, should we not wait until she is in town?"

He groaned in annoyance at the mention of her.

"She will sleep for another hour. You needn't concern yourself of my wife. She is completely naive of you."

It was at this moment that Christine couldn't contain her emotions anymore and she let out a piercing scream sounding of pure pain.

She stood frozen until Raoul threw open the door the rest of the way and stood in shock.

"Christine..."

She turned and ran in tears, nearly tripping down the stairs.

Raoul chased after her and froze in horror when he found her in the study, a letter opener pressed to her wrist.

She looked up at him with tears stinging her eyes and her voice reflected her pain like a thousand mirrors.

Raoul was brought to tears by her pain and yet he knew he had caused it.

Her voice was but a horse whisper.

"I gave up everything because I thought you loved me!"

He could find no words to speak and he couldn't move.

She flinched as the cold metal cut smoothly into her pale skin but she knew it would be over soon.

"You can't even tell me I'm wrong? I know now that my mistake was in leaving the man who truly loved me! If we could not be together in life, than I shall be with my angel of music in death!"

Raoul grabbed her too late as she dragged the sharp blade across her tender flesh and cried out as her blood began to flow.

She barely heard the mumblings of her husband as her soul began to leave.

She smiled suddenly as she saw the dark figure of her angel standing over her.

"He's waiting or me Raoul...my love is waiting for me...It's such a beautiful day."

He screamed out her name as she slipped away.

"Christine!"

She woke sharply, shaking uncontrollably with tears streaming down her face.

She tore off her robe, exposing the clean, unwounded flesh of her wrists and cried harder.

She screamed and jumped as she felt warm arms come around her and a soft voice whispered in her ear as tender lips kissed her there.

" Christine...are you okay?"

She turned and fell into Erik's arms with a sob and he pulled her back down, wrapping his arms around her tightly.

His soft hand traced her cheek and into her hair.

"I had such a horrible dream! I'm so happy that I stayed with you! Erik, I love you so much."

He smiled tenderly and kissed her.

"Everything is over, we can live happily now."

She began to calm and nodded, closing her eyes as she touched her forehead to his and wrapped her arms around him.

He held her close and began to soothingly sing to her.

"Silently she sleeps. All her fears are gone. She's forgotten all his charms as she..."

She began to shakily sing with him the last lines of the first verse of the lullaby he had written just for her on their wedding night.

"She sways to sleep. Sleep in her angel's arms."

She took a deep shaking breath as he kissed away her tears.

"Christine...I love you."

He kissed her forehead and listened as she drifted back to sleep in his arms.

He closed his eyes and soon was asleep again too.

Listening to Sarah Brightman's "Beautiful Day". I know this is short but I hope someone likes it.
