So this is my first fanfiction and I don't expect you all to fall head over heels for it because I'll be honset it's a little rusty but bare with me. I wanted people to have a different perspective on Katherine. I want people to look at her life differently then what was shown in the show. I am changing the narrative of Katherine's plight and origin

1. Chapter 1

Hey guys first off this my first fanfiction so I fear that it might be a bit rusty but if I keep, writing fanfictions then I might improve also I do not own any of the vampire diaries content in this story. All rights go to the creators of the show, also if any of you find that I have plagiarized your work in this story please let me know and I will remove it. But I promise this my original work. I also want to let you all know that this story is based around Katherine Pierce, but in this one she never had a kid out of wedlock and was never banished by her family.

The Different Life Of Katherine Pierce.

Chapter 1 The Big News,

The year is 1490

It was early in the morning when Katherine's mother came in full of joy and pride. "Katerina come make haste child today is a big day for you'' her mother said", full of delight". Katherine just groaned "No mama I don't wish to marry him. He is fat and he reeks of ale and I do not wish for him to touch me", Katherine said", with disgust in her voice. Her mother just gasped," SHH do you wish your father would give you a beating for speaking in such a way"? Katherine just sighed "Mama papa thinks that he can bully me into respecting him but he is wrong I will not be intimidated", Katherine said", with conviction in her tone of voice.

Katherine's mother held her hand up to silence Katherine. "Katerina you will do well not to challenge your father's authority" said Katherine's mother as she stroked her face". Then her mother had motioned for the maid to tend to Katherine. After they finished getting her ready they took her downstairs where she met her father at the bottom. He held out his hand and she took it. He whispered into her ear, "Two things girl, one you do well to behave yourself tonight your marriage is critical to our status, and two you look as beautiful as your mother, I will say this kindly given the circumstances but mind me tonight he said'', with a surprising kind tone. Out of fear she just nodded, he accepted her nod and headed toward her betrothed and his company of men. "Lord Aleksandur said, Mr. Petrova as he shook the lord's hand".

"May I present my daughter Katerina Petrova with joy in her voice". As she approached him she noticed this fat 40 something year old man looking at her with lustful eyes. She curtsied to the lord and he kissed her hand.

"Forgive me my dear but your father has neglected to inform me of your beauty said, with delight in his voice. "No apology necessary my lord my father has neglected to inform me of your handsome features as well she said, a smile", but not a genuine one for behind it she was appalled by what she saw before her. "I must say you really are an exquisite creature", the lord said, admiring her medieval red thin gown that fit all of her bodily curves. "Thank you my lord you are quite dashing yourself ", she said, with a fake smile. The lord laughs loudly and says "I am going to enjoy this one Petrova", then walks away laughing. Her father takes her hand gently and leads her toward the other guests. "I am pleased that you know how to obey and impress Lord Aleksandur". "I am just doing what is expected of me papa", Katherine replies, with no smile. "I am not a fool girl I know what you're planning", her father says, with his fury beginning to rise. "And what exactly am I planning papa", Katherine replies, with a devious smirk. "If you do anything to disrespect him I will beat you", her father says, in a warning tone. I promise you I will be at his beck and call and bear him many children although looking at him it is a wonder he does not already have them", she replied, snidely "MIND YOUR TONGUE GIRL" her said, growling through his teeth. He finally calms himself then says, "I realize Katerina that these are not ideal circumstances he may not be your ideal choice but he is decent".

"Papa he is fat and he reeks of ale please don't make me do this", she replied, pleadingly. "Enough Katerina it is decided now as for what is expected of you which I know you're already aware of. I expect to see you living pleasantly", her father says, keeping his eye on the party. "Well my children will bring me joy so how can I not be able to", Katherine says, with sarcasm in her voice. "That's not what I mean, Katerina,'' he says with uncomfortability in his voice. "Then what do you mean papa what are you trying to say", she replied,fearing she already knows the answer. "What I am saying is I expect you to be living pleasantly with all your family, your children and your husband", her father says, with straining in his voice. "You want me to love him"? She says, broken hearted, that her happiness means so little to her father. "Yes", her father managed to spit out. "NO never no", she said, through quiet sobs. "KATERINA YOU WILL TRY TO LOVE THE GENTLEMAN IS THAT CLEAR '', he growled through his teeth. After that she said nothing, just looked at Aleksandur with dread, for she knows that she will never know love for him. A few weeks had gone by and she was spending every waking moment with him and hating it poor Katherine grew more and more unhappy with each passing day. As her wedding day approached, her sadness continued. Week by week day by day she does her very best to obey her father's command however she's not capable of loving Aleksandur. With her father keeping a watchful eye she kept trying to please him by continuing her search for some feelings for Aleksandur. One day after a boat ride and a picnic on the shore of the river Aleksandur lifted Katherine's head with his index finger to have her eyes meet his and then he kissed her softly on her lips then her cheek. During this Katharine did not smile in fact she found it near impossible to do so.

Just then her father motioned his head to come to him. "Excuse me my lord my father summons me", she says, with her heart beginning to beat quickly due to fear of her father's temper. Once she reaches him she stands next to him facing the river. He leans close to her and speaks softly, "What were my instructions to you Katerina"? "Do not disrespect Aleksandur and embarrass you ", she replies sheepishly.

"Yes and what are you doing", her father asks, with frustration in his voice. "I am not sure what you mean papa", she says with confusion in her voice. "I believe my complete instructions were for you to find love with Aleksandur and yet here you are and I see no smile and no laughter, no enjoyment of the gentleman's company therefore doing what", he said, and paused and held out his hand for her to finish his sentence. Knowing the response her father wanted from she spoke. "Disrespects him and embarrasses you", she said, with her heart beating faster than sound and louder than thunder. "Exactly good girl and what did I say that I would do to you if you did such a thing", her father said, with anger in his voice. "That you would beat me" she replies wiping a tear from her cheek. "Too right you are", her father said, with a hateful look of rage on his face. Then in that moment he grabbed her by her arm and dragged her back to his home and dragged her to his study and pushed her in. He slammed the door behind him, then pulled out a thick wooden stick. He approached her, her heart beating so fast and so loud that all of Bulgaria could practically hear it. Knowing what her father was about to do she stood still. Then within seconds he slapped her across the face with the back of his hand then while she was on the floor he began beating her with the stick.

"AAH PAPA PLEASE STOP I AM TRYING I PROMISE AAH '', she said, through screams and cries pleading with father to stop. However in a blind rage he continued to beat her ignoring her pleas. "THIS WILL MAKE SURE THAT YOU WILL OBEY EVERY COMMAND I GIVE YOU I TOLD YOU TO LOVE THE GENTLEMAN", her father screamed in rage. "I AM TRYING PAPA I PROMISE I AM", Katherine said, as she laid face down crying. Once her father was finished he put the stick back where he took it from then crouched down next and said, in a scolding way "Let this be a lesson to you girl do not defy me again". With that he stood and walked to the door and opened and there stood his wife Katherine's mother just outside listening to the whole thing. He just looked at her and walked away, then she stepped into the room and held her sobbing daughter. "Katerina, this was what I warned you about, you must not challenge your father",

she said, as she wiped away Katherine's tears. "I can't love him mama I can't she says, through her continuing sobs. "Shh you must try harder my sweet Katerina you must try harder", her mother said, as she embraced her daughter. The next morning Katherine awoke to aches and agony from the beating her father gave her. In any case she got up, bathed and got dressed in her blue thin medieval gown. Then she came down to breakfast to see her future husband holding a chair out for her right next to him. So she approached and began to sit down but struggled due to her fathers reminders to never disobey him so Aleksandur helped her sit down and then sat down next to her. "Thank you my lord Katharine said, as she nodded her head to him. "You are quite welcome in my love", he said, with delight in his voice. He took her hand and kissed it but she felt nothing but disdain for him which unfortunately for her had not gone beyond her father's notice. After breakfast as she was sitting in the bay of her window staring out her window thinking about what she was going to do when she weds.

Just when she was getting lost in her thoughts her father bursts through her bedroom door. She whips around with fear in her eyes. Just then the next she knows she gets a slap across the face and with such force that she falls to the floor. "Katerina you just live to anger me and make me hit you", her father said, with rage in his voice. ''NO PAPA I DON'T YOU DO ALL THIS YOURSELF '' Katherine said, as she sobs. Once again he became enraged and lifted his hand to hit again but then stopped. he then turned his back and walked toward the door, but stopped then said, "Katerina I wish you would not make it impossible for me to give you the proper life", her father said, now filled with disappointment, instead of rage. Then with that he walked out the door, hours went by as Mr. Petrova sat in his study reflecting on the circumstances as he was thinking his wife entered the room. "You must not be so hard on Katerina, she's only 17" his wife said, as she rubbed his shoulders. "I just wish she will see what I am trying to do for her," Mr. Petrova said,with a tear in his eye. "Then talk to her Mrs. Petrova said, as she began to stroke his hair. He took the rest of that time pondering what was going to say to Katherine. Later that evening her mother came into the room. "Katerina please try to understand what your father is trying to do", her mother said, as she began to stroke Katherine's hair out of her face. Katherine said nothing and just kept staring out the window. "Despite how he behaves your father does love you and he just wants what's best for you", Mrs. Petrova continued. "Mama but that can't be Aleksandur it can't be '', said Katherine through her tears. "My sweet Katerina he's not that bad once you get to know him. Please, darling give him a chance men behave strangely when they are drunk when he's not. He's actually a good man, a gentleman", her mother replied, with a smile on her face. "Perhaps your father can explain it better than I", then with that she kissed her daughter on her head and walked out leaving her alone.

A few hours later her father enters the room and approaches her and sits down next to her. With a sigh he finally speaks. "Katerina, I want to explain to you the importance of your marriage to Aleksandur", he said, as he cleared his throat. "His station is high, his wealth is limitless however not only that but he's also an old friend, a family friend", he said, hoping she's listening. "The kind of man that you desire has nothing to his name, a handsome brute that is all but penniless and you deserve more than that", her father said, now seeing that she is seeing his love. "Papa I am sorry I angered you", Katherine said, turning to look him in the eye. "My Katerina he's a good man I promise and I know that he will make you happy and I know he wants to", her father said, as he held her hand on his own. She pondered for a moment then looked at Aleksandur and then looked back at her father then said, "I will try papa". He hugged her then walked out of the room. She sat there for a few moments pondering what to do first. She stepped out of her bedroom and went down to meet Aleksandur. "Katerina my dearest I am delighted that your down here there is something that I wish to show you if you would like to follow that is", he said, as he held out his hand for her to take. She began to ponder then decided to take his hand he led her to a clearing in the forest to a picnic all set up with rose petals spread out all over the place. Katherine was completely amazed she could not speak she was so completely blown away.

"Do you like it Katerina"? Aleksandur said, with wonder in his voice. She could not say a word the only thing she could was smile and laugh but she knew she had to give him some indication that she liked it. So she shook her head up and down with a laugh of pure delight. ALeksandur felt overwhelming joy for his betrothed and beloved had enjoyed something he did for once. He could not contain his joy, he just picked her up and spun her around. After that they sat down on the blanket and began the picnic with just the tow of them he began talking about his farm land business, he owned farms all over Bulgaria, and Katherine was actually fascinated, not to mention uncontrollably interested. Then he wanted to know more about her so he asked her, and she went on for hours about what she liked was interested in and wanted. He sat listening to her loving everything about her, he loved learning new things about her, and he could not wait to know more.
