The clicking of buttons under my fingers kept me awake as my teachers rambled on about something for the pep rally. I was staring down at my 3ds under my desk. Barely paying attention to what my teacher was saying.
"Caleb! Stop texting in my class." Mrs. Strom yelled at me.
I quickly snapped my head up and slowly snapped my ds closed. "He wasn't texting ma'am, "the girl next to me said, "He was playing a video game."
I looked at her with a face that said 'what the heck'. The girl just smirked and Mrs. Strom asked, "Is this this true Caleb?"
"Yes ma'am. I was, but it was only for a little bit."
"This is the last time Caleb. Give me your-"She said, but she was cut off by the school bell and I took that as a signal and ran out of the classroom before any other words were said.
I ran through my high schools hallways as fast as I could to get to the library. Right now was my lunch and I promised my friend that I would show him my progress on my game. He was very impressed by how much I had accomplished with the game. I used my slim figure to squeeze past other people. I turned the corner and entered the library and my friend waved me over to a table he was set up at.
He had his own 3ds out and was playing away at a game. I watched my friend rub his black hair in frustration. He must have lost one of his top pokemon in a battle. I waved at the Patty who sat next to him who was doodling her favorite pokemon. A pachirisu. People thought she was weird for hanging out with Wilson and me because of how pretty she was. Her blonde streak in her brown hair accented her tan skin and blue eyes.
I sat down and pulled out my own ds and continued my game. Wilson shut his ds in rage and slammed it down on the table. I looked up from my game and asked, "You lose another battle again?"
"Yes. I call hacks because my charizard had maxed out attack power." Wilson answered while pushing up his square glasses.
He moved over to look over my shoulder to see what I was doing. I had just made the final connection in super mystery dungeons. I had spent 250 hours on the game and had finally finished all of the missions with my lucario. I loved the game for its continuous story and characters it had.
Wilson said, "Well you finally did it dude. You became a giant nerd for finishing this game."
He patted my on the shoulder and I answered, "Hey at least I can finish it instead of rage quitting right away."
We both laughed, but I stopped when my screen on my 3ds went black. I looked down at the power light and saw that it was still a solid blue and on. My fingers weren't anywhere near the home button and yet both of my screens were completely black. Then they went white, then blue and then red. The colors continued cycling through the screen. Both Wilson and I stared at the screen.
"Did you take the card out while playing it?" Wilson asked.
"No. I had the thing on the table when I was playing the game. It started doing that when I hit 100 percent finished."
"Well you could take it into game stop or something. I here they repair game cards or systems." Wilson suggested.
"Yeah my friend was playing fire emblem and it glitched out and they transferred all of his data onto a new game card for only 15 bucks. You just have to make sure Angie is there when you ask." Patty said from behind her sketchbook.
I went through the rest of the school day looking at the flashing screen on my ds. Hoping that my gaming entertain was not busted. I had spent so much time on the thing that it would turn all that fun and joy into wasted time.
I quickly drive myself to the nearest game stop to see if Angie is in. I walk up to the glass doors and look in to see an empty game store with an older woman sitting behind the front desk. I walk into the store and slowly make my way to the front desk. I was trying to make it seem like I was very calm about asking for a job that did not seem legit.
I made it to the desk and tried to get rid of the crack in my throat that had formed on my way up to the desk, "Excuse me." The woman barely looks at me from the organizing she was doing under the desk, "A-are you Angie?"
"Yes. What do you need?"
"I heard you could fix a glitching problem with 3ds game cards."
"What game?"
"Uh Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon."
The woman looked up at me with confusion and finally took interest in what I was asking. She looked at me with curiosity and said, "I have never had a case with that game let me take a look at your ds and your game. Is it still glitching out right now?"
"Yes." I said while handing over the game to her.
She walked into the back room for a long time. I thought that I had just lost my game and ds, but then she came back. She didn't have my ds or my game card.
"I need you to come back to the backroom to get passed this passcode on your ds." Angie said to me.
"There shouldn't be one on there. Unless it's my Nintendo user thing." I said.
"Yeah that's stopping me from fixing the game card."
I followed Angie into the back room to find a giant contraption made up of every game system combined. I could see the inside circuit boards of every console. They were surrounding a giant circular metal panel on the ground. All the wires from the game systems connected to the large panel.
Before I could ask what the thing was, I was pushed into the center. I caught myself and a blue barrier raised up from the edge of the panel. I walked up to the barrier and tried to push through, but the thing was solid and wouldn't budge against my weight.
"What the heck lady? I was told you could fix my game." I yelled through the barrier, hoping it would get through.
"Your game isn't broken." Angie replied.
"What do you mean? What's with the flashing lights?"
"You beat the game and spent the most time in the world on that game. No one has ever spent as much time as you Caleb. Those flashing lights aren't from a glitched game. It's a call for help."
"What?"
"Let me explain. The game you were playing wasn't complete fiction. It was pretty close to the real thing."
"Wait pokemon are real?"
"Yes. There are pokemon, but on a different planet. Far away from ours. The only way we know about them is by their choice. They sent messages to the minds of the game makers. Showing them their world. Why would they do this? They were asking for help from us because not every pokemon is able to help. So a game was designed to test how humans would act in their environment. Half the time we were seen as a species that would just mess around, but there were a small few that actually passed their test. They went to their world and became one of the pokemon. They fought in wars and created new lives, but they couldn't stay there forever because of the knowledge they knew. They tried to tell others of the human world because they wanted to merge the worlds and were exiled from both planets. We cannot merge the worlds. Too many would be killed or hurt. They stopped calling, but for some odd reason they called to you. So we shall answer. Something serious must be going on."
"What?! No I don't want to go! I just want to play the game! Let me go!" I yelled, but Angie continued pressing buttons on the different consoles.
I could hear different machines humming and starting up. I could feel myself getting lighter each moment passed by.
"You will do fine. I will implant the things you need to do into your mind and once you are done then all you would have to do to get back home is to travel to the seven peaks and smash the evolution stone you hold when you arrive." Angie said to try and calm my mind, but nothing she said calmed me down.
By the time she had finished talking I was already floating halfway up the room. I looked at the screen Angie was staring at and suddenly the screens changed from a subtle black screen with green code on it to a flashing red color with the word error on it.
"Oh no." Angie said and then a surge of energy shot through the panel and into my body. I screamed from the pain and different images were shown to me. A floating island, a braxien with a flame on her eye, a sylveon, and a greninja.
The energy continued to surge through my body and with more energy there was more pain in my body. The rise of my body increased faster and faster and I felt as if I was flying now. My whole body was in pain from the energy and slowly memories faded. I slowly fell asleep and I couldn't think anymore. There was nothing to think about. Just emptiness inside of my mind. Where am I? What was I saying? Maybe it was nothing. Yeah it wasn't anything.
