Domino city looked marvelous in the afternoon light, buildings reflecting warm sunshine. A young student named Yuugi Mutou walked out of school and breathed in the refreshing early spring air. Looking around there wasn't any other student in sight, probably because the classes ended a good while ago. Yuugi couldn't help the thought that he was the only kid dumb enough to get into trouble and be sent to detention on a Friday. All his friends had left him behind with apologetic smiles and promises to see him on the weekend. Yuugi didn't blame them, if he had done his homework instead of playing games last night, he too would have escaped the school as soon as the last bell had rung.
Walking down the sidewalk in the general direction of his home, Yuugi pondered what new games he should play that day. Before leaving for school in the morning, he saw a truck with a new shipment of games being unloaded in front of his grandpa's shop. All the games in the Kame Game Shop were tested by Yuugi and by the age of sixteen he had accumulated a vast knowledge of game rules, puzzle solving tactics, board and card game strategies. Grandpa Mutou always said he didn't have the heart to keep the good new games from his favorite (and only) grandson, but Yuugi knew better, his family couldn't afford to hire extra staff for the store, so the responsibility of consulting customers fell on Yuugi's shoulders. Not that he minded. Ever since he was a child, Yuugi felt a fiery passion towards games, mastering each one he got his hands on, no matter per grandpa's request or not.
Yuugi took another deep breath. Indeed the pleasant weather and warm sunshine were slowly melting away all the pent up stress. With the school far behind and the game shop just a block away it felt amazingly freeing. No one knew exactly just how much pain each new day at school brought Yuugi. It simply wasn't believable when the boy's self-image was of a kind-hearted, caring kid who saw a friend in everyone. Even his closest group of friends, "the gang" as everyone called them, didn't know the full extent of abuse that went on every time he crossed paths with the wrong kind of person. No matter how hard Yuugi had tried to change his outward vibe, no matter how many friends he got, he still got bullied. He had tried many times to reason with his bullies, to ask the question why, but was always laughed at as an answer. Was he too small, was he too kind, was he too smart, was he too nerdy, was he too quiet? Nothing ever changed for the boy, every damn week his bullies would strike him right when his friends weren't around to protect him. And venting to his friends? What good would that bring? Yuugi didn't want his friends to get into fights on his behalf. So weekend after weekend Yuugi would deal with his pent up stress by shutting himself off from friends and family to quietly play games and solve puzzles alone. And week after week new excuses as to why his face was spotted with bruises would be made up for his friends; he fell, he got injured helping at the shop, he had an accident doing sports at school, he broke something, he did this and he did that and oh God he was spiraling.
Yuugi heavily plopped down on the sidewalk and tried to get back the feeling of freedom that the Friday's warm air had brought to him a while ago. He hated when he got into his head so deep, his thoughts went out of control. No more of this self-reflection bullshit, he thought. Yuugi leaned against the building he had sat by and looked at the clear sky. No more thinking. He started taking slow breaths. No thinking, just feeling the warmth and looking at the sky.
A few long moments had passed until Yuugi felt like himself again. Carefully standing up he went back to pondering about the new games. Oh how wonderful it would be if they got a new shipment of duel monsters booster packs. Making a new deck would definitely occupy his mind for the whole weekend and then he could try out his new strategies against Jounouchi on Monday. Even if Yuugi felt like he couldn't rely on friends to stand up for him all the time, he could always count on them to play games and have fun with.
Standing up from the sidewalk Yuugi had already thought about possible dates to hold locals at the game shop. One of the things he enjoyed most was to see people bundled up around tables playing their favorite card games. Yuugi never volunteered to referee, but enjoyed walking around the store explaining rules and guiding newer players. It was amazing how outspoken Yuugi would become, compared to his usually quiet self. No matter how much Yuugi got bullied at school, nothing could diminish his belief in seeing good in people and showing everyone the magic and joy of gaming.
Continuing his walk home, something shiny caught the boy's attention. A gold ambient glow beckoned him to venture deeper into an empty side alley between two buildings. Warm sunlight was blocked by the said buildings, so something else had lit the passage. Curiosity getting the better of him, Yuugi slowly stalked to the gap between buildings and tried to see what was giving out the pretty glow, stronger and warmer than sunlight. After seeing nothing, Yuugi gathered up his limited resource of courage and ventured deeper into the alleyway. Having moved away a good few meters from the main road, Yuugi was suddenly blinded by a burst of light that seemingly came out of nowhere. The boy shouted in surprise, first thought in his head being Oh God am I being abducted by aliens, which was followed by have I died? Yuugi just stood there, blinking rapidly to clear his vision of dark spots. Rubbing his eyes, Yuugi stumbled forward and walked into something, or rather, someone, as the object in question let out a surprised gasp. Hearing the sound Yuugi froze and slowly lowered his hands. There indeed was a person before him, although the boy had never seen someone like that, at least not up close. The man was taller than Yuugi by at least twenty centimeters and had tan skin, but other than that, they bore an uncanny resemblance to each other. Both had an untamed mane of multi-colored hair and a somewhat petite frame. Yuugi let his eyes wander and took in the strange clothing the man was wearing. Yuugi could swear he had seen the same outfit consisting of off-white tunic, royal blue cape and a load of gold accessories in one of his grandpa's books about ancient Egypt.
The stranger stood there, letting his appearance be examined by this weird-looking boy. The Egyptian didn't like being eyeballed like this, he felt that somehow such behavior was unacceptable towards him, but he hadn't any idea why he felt that way and even if he did come up with reasons, he was too preoccupied with staring back at the weird boy. His skin was light, almost ashen and he was short. His frail body was clad in layers of royal blue fabric and black leather accessories. The familiar eye-catching multi-colored hair splayed in all directions just like his, except for the blond fringe, which fell down and framed the boy's face instead of layering on the top of the head like a gold headpiece. The Egyptian felt as if the boy was a terribly distorted reflection of himself. Frowning, he crossed his arms and waited for the boy to meet his gaze.
However, their eyes never met, as the man's unusual appearance had already sent Yuugi into his memory world. Yuugi's grandpa used to be an archaeologist, specializing in Egyptology, so their home was filled with books on the subject and artifacts, some real, some replicas. Grandpa Mutou didn't know any mainstream fairy tales and never bothered to retell the folklore of their own culture, instead he would tell little Yuugi of his journeys to Egypt, legends of gods and pyramids, stories of pharaohs and wars. The vivid memory of seeing a mummy at the national museum played out before Yuugi's eyes. The glass case near the mummy's sarcophagus was filled with the same jewelry the man standing before Yuugi wore. Why would someone dress up in authentic ancient Egyptian attire to walk around Domino city? And they even looked Egyptian. Not that Yuugi had met an Egyptian before. Were they nice? Oh and what games did they play in the modern era? Yuugi could recall trying to recreate game boards, described in grandpa's books, but neither of them bothered to research current gaming trends in Egypt.
The man was getting tired of waiting for the boy to react in some way. It seemed like the boy was so lost in his own mind, he was oblivious to everything around him in reality. Although the boy looked cute, staring into space with those big round amethyst eyes, the Egyptian wanted to get the boy's attention. Panic was slowly setting in his stomach, as he couldn't recall where he was and, more worryingly, who he was. Maybe that kid had some answers, having become the first coherent memory in his head since waking up.
The Egyptian cleared his throat and bore his stern gaze into the boy's eyes, but the amethyst never met his gaze. Sighing, he lifted his hand, sure that the kid would notice his movement, and gently poked his forehead.
Out of nowhere, Yuugi felt his forehead being poked. The contact made him jump backwards and scream; his focus not entirely on his surroundings yet. For a moment he had forgotten where he was or why would anyone poke him. Was he being bullied again? Did he bump into his bullies on his way home and hid in his own brain to feel less pain?
Yuugi fell on his butt and sat there breathing heavily, eyes darting around, hands clutching his head in case a blow would come. Instead of a merciless hit a gentle touch came. Yuugi was confused as he didn't recognize the soft hand. He lifted his eyes and met an intense wine purple gaze. The stern yet full of concern look returned Yuugi to correct reality and he remembered why he started reminiscing about grandpa and ancient Egypt in the first place.
Yuugi cleared his throat nervously, squirming under that piercing stare. Why would anyone be allowed to have such eyes? If he stares for another second, I'll have holes in my head, Yuugi rapidly conversed with himself.
Since the owner of those ethereal eyes was still standing bent over Yuugi, clearly not knowing what to do with his outstretched hand, the boy laughed uncomfortably and stood up on shaky legs. The Egyptian stepped back and softly asked, "Are you alright?"
His voice was deep and smooth, laced with caution. Yuugi opened his mouth to answer, "Y, yes…" but choked, vocal cords still strained. The Egyptian walked closer, put his hand on Yuugi's back and carefully rubbed in soothing circles.
Why is he doing this? No no, more importantly, who is he?! Yuugi was screeching in his mind. But all that came out of his mouth was "Why..? Who… you?" Perfect, now he was embarrassing himself in front of this pretty foreigner, who surprisingly didn't seem to mind Yuugi's fidgeting. On the contrary, the man smiled a handsome smile.
"I don't seem to know exactly where I am, would you be willing to show me around?" He phrased that as vaguely as he could. There was no way he'd tell some weird boy that he had no memories whatsoever. Sure, he had some basic comprehension of how things, for example clothing he wore, worked, but everything around him looked foreign and non comprehensive. With each new sound seeping into the alleyway panic was slowly setting in the Egyptian's gut. He started to realize that he was completely alone in these terrible circumstances, save for the puppy-eyed boy, who, by the way, was still anxiously fidgeting, not daring to meet his eyes. On top of rising panic, frustration also settled in. There definitely should've been a reason for the boy being the first thing he saw. Was this weakling supposed to help him?
Yuugi finally calmed down enough to take in the full picture. He had an episode in his head, then he walked towards light, after which he crashed into a lost handsome foreigner, dressed in ancient Egyptian clothing, and of course had another episode in his brain. Mentally beating himself up for being such a twat, Yuugi shyly spoke out, "I… I think I can show you around Domino city".
Seemingly startled by his voice, the Egyptian looked at him, studied his eyes for a second and nodded with a small smile. What a pretty smile that was. Yuugi proceeded to mentally beat himself up further, I must be going crazy. Yup, only someone completely dumb could develop a crush on a stranger they just met who also happened to appear out of thin air. I'm not a Disney princess for fuck's sake.
The Egyptian noticed his companion shutting off inside his head again, so he quickly got attention to himself, "You have my gratitude. Let's go then."
The boy snapped out of his thoughts, briefly peered into his eyes and shyly turned around.
The pair walked out of the alleyway and since Yuugi had no idea where to lead the stranger, who seemed like he wasn't going to ask to be walked somewhere specific, started walking in the direction of his home.
After ten minutes of walking behind the boy in silence, the Egyptian couldn't take it anymore. All around him were things he couldn't tell heads or tails of and even worse, everyone in this city were dressed in a similar manner to his little guide; bewildered stares followed him every step. No one wore a tunic or big jewelry, in fact, the biggest accessory he saw was the black leather collar on the boy's neck.
Nervousness was obvious on the Egyptian's face, so much that Yuugi blurted out, "Want to visit my grandpa's game store?"
Why did he propose that when he didn't know who the guy was, he couldn't tell. There was just something captivating about the exotic man. Whether it was fate or irresistible charm, Yuugi had already invited him over.
Hearing the invitation, the Egyptian froze over. He had no idea whether the boy was trustworthy, what if he was being led into some trap?
"Are you alright?"
Now it was Yuugi's turn to show concern. He couldn't pretend he hadn't noticed how his companion flinched at every passing car, side-eyed every person they met and stared at lamp posts with immense interest. An uneasy feeling crept up Yuugi's spine. Either this man is crazy or he's from actual ancient Egypt. Yuugi made up his mind to test the stranger. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a smartphone. Holding the device so that the Egyptian could see the screen, Yuugi unlocked it and began creating new contact.
"Could you give me your number?"
"Excuse me?"
"Your phone number. Thought we could exchange numbers in case…" the gears inside Yuugi's brain were turning rapidly. After a second of thought, Yuugi continued, "… in case you'd need a guide. I know this city pretty well." A lie. Sort of. Yuugi could walk to the local arcade with his eyes closed, but had no idea where young people these days spent their free time.
The Egyptian stared at Yuugi. And then stared some more. Gears were obviously turning in his head too. The man definitely didn't want to show his vulnerability to some weird kid he just met, but all background noise was getting on his nerves, he must've lived in a less loud environment. Failing to read any ill intentions out of the boy's expression, the Egyptian tensed, as if ready for an ambush, and admitted, "It seems like I cannot remember this "number" that you are talking about."
"What?"
"In fact, I have been trying to remember at least something for a good while now, but I can't. I can't remember anything."
Yuugi gawked at the stranger. Couldn't remember anything? Amnesia? Why would anyone with amnesia be cosplaying a pharaoh? Yuugi assumed the attire was of someone royal, judging by all the gold bands on the stranger's arms and neck. The diadem-shaped crown with glistening eye symbol adorned the man's head, enhancing his regal aura.
The Egyptian coughed to get Yuugi's attention; he could tell the boy was halfway in his inner world. What a peculiar habit, he thought, but didn't say anything and let the boy return attention to the conversation.
"Well, the offer still stands," Yuugi said with a shy smile. He had a heart too kind to leave a foreigner with amnesia to wander around an unknown city alone. He for sure wasn't influenced by the exotic appearance and those deep piercing eyes that were shining with gratefulness and appreciation. Well, maybe a little.
"By the way, I'm Yuugi Mutou," Yuugi offered a bright yet shy smile. His companion returned a smile warmer than the sun on this lovely Friday evening and said, while shaking his head apologetically, "I wish I could introduce myself, but my name is one of the memories also lost."
~O~
By the time Yuugi and his companion entered the Kame game shop, Yuugi had learned many, although superficial, things about his pretty guest with amnesia. First, the man indeed was Egyptian, they had come to the conclusion after Yuugi showed him some ancient Egypt themed pictures on his phone and the man could recognize certain imagery; furthermore, Yuugi was pretty sure the man came from the past, but kept the thought to himself, there wasn't any need to bring it up to an already anxious man (by Yuugi's logic, moving between alternative dimensions was easier to stomach than time travel). Second, the Egyptian loved games. After Yuugi told him in detail to what kind of store they were going, the Egyptian's anxiety was swiftly replaced with anticipation. Yuugi immediately felt closer to him because no one, maybe except for grandpa Mutou, ever was so genuinely excited about games. And lastly, every sentence the Egyptian spoke in his deep voice and sunny smile made Yuugi's guts do funny flips. Yuugi prayed he hadn't been resembling a tomato while they walked to his home.
"Welcome to Kame game shop!" A greeting came from behind the counter once Yuugi opened the door to his home.
"It's just me grandpa," answered Yuugi, letting his guest inside.
The Egyptian walked in and took a look around, a curious expression shining on his face. He walked to the closest stand, featuring various card games, duel monsters amongst them. He studied the display so intently he completely missed the suspicious look grandpa Mutou was offering him.
"Yuugi, care to introduce our guest?" Grandpa Mutou asked, still eyeing the foreign man.
"Grandpa, I met him at a," Yuugi took a pause and continued stuttering, "at a, I mean, an arcade?"
He couldn't believe the weak lie he came up with. Thankfully, the Egyptian only raised an eyebrow, which, Yuugi noticed, was expressive and elegant. Yuugi shook his head, now wasn't the time to fanboy over a man's eyebrows. Grandpa had been throwing bewildered looks at them the whole time. While the Egyptian turned back to study displays, grandpa Mutou beckoned Yuugi to come closer.
"Yuugi, why is your friend cosplaying a pharaoh?" Asked grandpa Mutou, in a hushed tone, but still loud enough for the man in question to hear. Yuugi felt a drop of sweat forming on his forehead.
"He's… Very into Egypt..?"
Grandpa Mutou really, really wanted to ask more questions as he was both suspicious and intrigued by his grandson's guest. After all, Egypt had been grandpa's passion for most of his life. However, the pleading look in his grandson's eyes softened his demeanor.
"Alright my boy, glad to see you've made a new friend. But promise to talk to me later," grandpa Mutou said with a sigh. Wouldn't be the first time his grandson was willing to help complete strangers. One could only wonder where he got that kind naive heart.
Hearing the permission to bring over the Egyptian, Yuugi's eyes twinkled. He made a silent promise to tell everything to grandpa as soon as he figured out what to do with the exotic man in question.
Yuugi bounced over to his guest who at the moment was examining a board of chess with great interest. Yuugi glanced at the board. Ah yes, the man really was a pharaoh, the chess set that had caught his eye was the most expensive chess set in the shop, made of ebony and boxwood, and the only luxury item the Mutou family had ever owned. The set wasn't really for sale or use; grandpa put it in the glass display to "boost the store's prestige".
"Do you like it?" Yuugi asked, noting the sad sparkles in the Egyptian's eyes.
The man hummed with approval. "This particular game feels familiar, I am sure I used to play a variant of it."
He must be thinking of senet, Yuugi thought. He was sure he had seen a replica of a senet board somewhere in grandpa's storage, but the rules to play it were never discovered. Yuugi was about to open his mouth, but thought better, after all, if his pretty guest would try to remember the rules and fail, it would lead to more disappointment and anxiety. Yuugi didn't want his new friend to be more aggravated than he already was. Instead Yuugi suggested, "How about we play it? I'll teach you the rules." In the background, grandpa Mutou coughed loudly, so Yuugi hastily added, "I have another board lying around somewhere."
The Egyptian observed his little host who beamed with sincere eagerness to play. He had more pressing matters at hand, like finding out who he was and why he was brought to this world, but the shop's atmosphere with all the fascinating items made it impossible to resist a chance at playing a game. Besides, he was sure he could sense a challenge behind the boy's kind offer, and he never backed down on a challenge.
"I would really appreciate it."
~O~
"...and I believe it is a checkmate."
Yuugi gaped at the chess board. He just couldn't believe his eyes. Was this amnesiac pharaoh a genius? Yuugi spent about ten minutes explaining the rules from the top of his head until his guest interrupted him and asked whether they could start playing, saying something along the lines of "the fastest way to learn is to learn on the go". The guest moved his chess pieces with such grace and elegance, every carefully calculated move screamed royalty. They were playing their fifth match and Yuugi was losing badly. In fact, he was losing so badly, even his grandpa came closer and now was hovering behind Yuugi's shoulder, sighing in disbelief.
"It was awesome to play with you. Congrats," Yuugi said in return. The boy was competitive and passionate about games, but could take a loss with dignity and recognize a great opponent. Playing against a strong challenger brought Yuugi something beyond fun, he felt elated that his new friend was not only equally into games, but also possibly better than Yuugi. A thorn of guilt bruised Yuugi's gut as he caught himself comparing this game with the not that exciting matches he had with his friends. Yuugi scolded himself and made a mental note to be kinder to his friends, after all, if he lost them, the only social interactions in school would be with the bullies. Having reminded himself of the bullying that was sure to come next week, heavy thoughts started swirling in Yuugi's brain like a bowl of moldy soup, stirred using a rusty spoon. He cringed at the image of rotting soup, swishing inside his skull. Was he getting hungry? He noticed that the sky outside had turned a pretty orange color, meaning they had spent a good few hours playing chess.
A dull clank tore Yuugi out of his thoughts. He refocused on his opponent, who was fiddling around the inside of his cloak. The clanking metal sound came once more, when part of the cape hit the table. The Egyptian fished around the cape some more and finally took out something shiny. Yuugi curiously observed a growing pile of small gold objects, all slightly different shapes, but each having sharp edges. They seemed to have been made of the same material as the Egyptian's jewelry, reflecting last rays of sunshine in a form of brilliant light bunnies that danced on the table surface between them. Yuugi felt his grandpa lean on him, clearly professional curiosity taking over.
"Is that like, a game?" Yuugi asked, after the Egyptian sat there staring at the gold for a full five minutes.
The man looked back at Yuugi confused. "A game? No, I think these pieces are rather a part of a puzzle."
"Fascinating indeed," mumbled grandpa Mutou, walking around Yuugi and leaning closer to the pile of gold. The Egyptian scooped the gold with one swift move and hid everything in his secret cape pocket. He didn't want to be rude to his hosts, but he felt that the puzzle was important to him. The man lifted his eyes to catch an apologetic look Yuugi had been directing at him.
"Grandpa," Yuugi called, "it's way past the store's closing time."
"Indeed it is," muttered grandpa, glancing at the clock on the wall. He walked away with a sigh, picking up games misplaced during the day.
"It, it's getting late…" Yuugi started, just to be caught off guard by suddenly meeting his guest's piercing eyes. "... We're closing." Yuugi regretted those words as soon as they had left his dumb mouth. Why did he make it sound as if the pretty guest wasn't welcome to stay?! Yuugi wanted to talk to him more, to play more games, to help him somehow, after all, wasn't it fate that brought them together? Yuugi was sure he felt a kind of spiritual pull to that stoic man. Or was it just a stupid crush and teenage hormones?
Yuugi mentally slapped himself. Now wasn't the time to get lost in his brain, think, think, where could an amnesiac time travelling pharaoh stay? Definitely not at Yuugi's, his mom wouldn't allow strangers in the house, especially amnesiac pharaohs. After listing all his friends, Yuugi chose the most suitable option.
"I, I don't think my mom would allow you to stay here, but I'm sure one of my friends would gladly take you in."
The Egyptian only nodded. He felt too dependent on the boy, it was too soon to trust a stranger, but what choice did he have? The man glared at Yuugi, evaluating him, challenging him to reveal any hidden agendas, but the boy only squirmed under his stare, eyes still big and kind, no sensible threats at all. Satisfied with his findings, the man nodded, showing his agreement to stay with a boy's friend. He wasn't in a position to decline a kind offer. Seeing his nod, the shorter boy's eyes shone with relief and he quickly took out his phone, tapped some buttons and pressed it to his ear.
"Hey Jou, you won't believe this but please hear me out."
~O~
"So yer sayin', this "friend" of yer's is an ancient Egyptian pharaoh and he has amnesia. Got it Yuug'."
Yuugi let out a long tired sigh. What has he been expecting, for any normal person his story would sound nuts. Luckily, he knew Jounouchi wasn't exactly "normal", at least by regular teenager's standards. The teen lived practically alone, with his drunkard father dropping by once or twice a month to issue scolding and beating to poor Jou. Jounouchi had to support himself and also pass school somehow and so far, he had been managing just fine, which always earned silent respect from his group of friends.
"Yuug'? You still with me? I'm sayin' I'll take in that time traveler of your's."
Torn out of his thoughts, Yuugi registered what his friend just said. This time a sigh of relief escaped him. "Thanks Jou, I knew I could rely on you."
"Ya owe me a burger tho," sheepishly added Jou and ended the phone call.
Yuugi turned to his guest and announced, feeling relief, "My friend agreed to let you stay at his place," and, seeing the Egyptian furrowing his brows suspiciously, quickly added "Don't worry, he's a good friend of mine, name's Jounouchi but everyone calls him Jou, he's totally cool and lives alone… kinda…"
The Egyptian only raised his eyebrow in response to Yuugi. He didn't have any choice, so he might've taken the opportunity to not wander an unknown city at night. He just couldn't shake off what felt like an ill omen, looming over his head. Who knows what kind of dangers could ambush him and a bad feeling grew stronger with each look he cast through the window. Somehow he was sure that there was someone in this world, who knew of his arrival and exactly what his role was in the grand scheme. He could only hope to figure things out before a terrible threat came his way.
~O~
Yup. Definitely. Why am I such an idiot. Yuugi couldn't help cursing himself out. He was walking his new friend to Jounouchi's place, eagerly yapping about games and whatnot with his companion responding in a reserved, but just as eager, manner, when a girl passing by them giggled and elbowed her friend. The friend, dressed in the same school uniform as Yuugi, looked straight at them and snorted. Yuugi was used to people laughing at him for his childish yet alternative appearance, but this time he had a feeling he looked even stranger having his foreign cosplaying companion walking beside him. Why didn't he think of dressing the Egyptian in ordinary clothes? Stupid, stupid, stupid. Wait, my clothes would've been too small anyway.
The Egyptian noticed the boy's nervous expression and when the boy fell silent, he decided to ask, "Is everything alright?" The amethyst eyes were still glued to the pavement, so the man took the chance to analyze their surroundings. The streets with narrow alleyways and tall houses looked cold and uninviting, even in the last warm rays of the sunset. People of various ages were leisurely walking all around them, either not giving them a single glance or openly staring with judging eyes. A feeling of not belonging hit the Egyptian hard, as it wasn't only his appearance that alienated him from these people. When he pulled a shadowy memory out of the depths of his soul of walking among his people and being the beloved of the masses, he felt a pathetic pang of loneliness with the realization that he was nothing to these strangers. His heart earned the missing awe and trust that followed him in the past life, now crumbled to shadowy fragments of memories. A gentle voice made him turn his head back to his little guide.
"Umm did you say something? I'm sorry, I get lost in my thoughts a lot," the boy laughed apologetically and their eyes met. The man flinched, as he felt his cold loneliness being absorbed by the warm depth of those amethyst eyes. Really, even if meeting the boy wasn't fate, it was a blessing for the pharaoh's shattered soul.
